Hi, I'd like to ask something. I'm new to this. When you pay for a plan on NovelCrafter, is the Claude model already included, or do you need to pay for your own Claude account and integrate it with API? Thanks, excellent content!
@ByteSizedBooksmith
@ByteSizedBooksmith 23 күн бұрын
No, Claude isn't connected by default. The Hobbyist, Artisan, and Specialist plans are all "Bring Your Own Key," meaning you pay for what you use through the API. One thing to note, however, is that the Anthropic API doesn't connect directly to Novelcrafter. To use Claude, we go through the OpenRouter.ai API instead. Through OpenRouter, we can access the OpenAI, Claude, Mistral, and many other models. We can connect directly to OpenAI, but I prefer to use OpenRouter.

@@ByteSizedBooksmith Oh, I understand. Thank you very much for your response. To be honest, I bought a Claude subscription with the idea of writing a non-fiction book, but then I came across your videos and this Novelcrafter tool with its great possibilities. So now I'm a bit confused about whether to start directly with Claude or use it in conjunction with Novelcrafter.

@@vinzdegar I recommend using both if you already have the Claude subscription. You can do quite a bit of the heavy lifting to create your premise and Codex entries in Claude Pro and then move the information into Novelcrafter to write the actual prose.

Okay, lol So, I have worked with the hook, pitch, premise, characters and location in a different LLM, I've inputed all of that into NC Codex, So My question is if I use the framework and the outline and the llm to run the beats/scences in NC would that work? Would it pull my information for the Codex to do that or does it all have to be in the same chat?
@ByteSizedBooksmith
@ByteSizedBooksmith 25 күн бұрын
I've done it both ways, and both work. I created the Scene Brief in a separate chat in the Mafia Romance Codex, which worked like a charm. You could keep creating Scene Briefs in this chat or move to a new one for each scene. It just depends on how organized you want to keep things.

What information do you put in the characters box, since you also make custom categories for appearances and such.
@ByteSizedBooksmith
@ByteSizedBooksmith 26 күн бұрын
It depends on what information I need for the story, and the amount of information will also be determined by the length of the story. Shorter stories need less info. Strengths, weaknesses, motivations, relationships to other characters, role in the story, personality, fears, desires, and character arc are just some of the options. Also, the main characters need more information than the secondary or minor characters. Don't hesitate to ask the LLM, "what information do I need about this character/these characters to tell the story?" But ultimately, it is your decision.

Will the ai always consider the nested references of each character? Do I need to add a prompt in the general purpose for that? let’s say I have my characters and references ( the character communication and character appearance.) If I put in the prompt to consider the characters entry when generating dialogue, the ai can only get the whole group as context if I use context.codex call.characters? Or I don’t need to do that at all? My second question is can I have more than 1 sample in the snippet for the ai or will the ai get confused or will it cost me more? I am not too familiar with how many instruction or prompts add more cost to tokens. I want to create sample for show don’t tell, sample for proses and sample for tightening. My 3rd question: for the sample prose, must it be related to the plot I am about to write or it doesn’t matter? Like same characters, similar storyline etc…
@ByteSizedBooksmith
@ByteSizedBooksmith 27 күн бұрын
If something is a nested reference, it will be visible to the LLM/AI whenever you call the main item. When I include more than one sample, I usually use bullets or dashes before them. Tokens are counted as price per million, so they are relatively inexpensive, depending on the model you use. Sorry, I don't understand your third question.
@paikountv4065
@paikountv4065 27 күн бұрын
Thanks for the answer. So for my third question I was saying if I have to write myself a first sample of my story (maybe chapter 1) for the ai to understand the prose style I am looking for or can I use a sample from a different story even if it’s not the same genre?
@ByteSizedBooksmith
@ByteSizedBooksmith 26 күн бұрын
@@paikountv4065 So, you have a couple of options for sample prose or prose style. You can rely on setting a prose style in the Codex, then generate and edit your first chapter. You can add a sample of your writing into a Codex entry and create a custom prose prompt that uses the entry as an example of your style. Or you can write (or dictate and transcribe with AI) the first chapter and use that to manage your writing style. Issues arise if the writing style in the Codex doesn't match your writing style in the document. You can put some of your pre-AI writing into one of the LLMs and ask it to provide you with a style guide based on what you've provided.

I typically choose a different LLM (AI) depending on the part of the process I'm currently working on and the genre I am writing. GPT-4o and other versions are usually better for logic. You would use it when you want less flowery descriptions and less dialogue when writing prose. Claude is more "creative." It is the best bet for prose unless you prefer the more straightforward style from the OpenAI models. Command R+ is what most people are currently using to write the naughty (NSFW) bits. It has a smaller context than the other models.

It's nice to meet you! While I don't have much beginner-type stuff right now, it is on the list of things to create. In the meantime, Kate from the Novelcrafter KZbin channel made some introductory videos. A Framework is an outline method (Save the Cat, Romancing the Beat, etc.) or even a premade outline that can be used as a roadmap for a story. You can take your characters, settings, and lore and apply a framework to create a story outline.
