A thing I noticed myself as a pretty inexperienced squad player is that I do want to understand the game tactically better, but the amount of unresponsive or unenthousiastic SLs are very demotivating to doing so as without guidance zerg rushing like you describe is literally the only thing I know how to do.

OWI and their shitty optimisation is the biggest enemy of the game ironically. How can the graphical demands keep going up, yet game looks the same? How can i feel great playing the game a year ago, yet a year later, aiming down sights make you drop to 20 FPS?

I’ve played Squad for only a few hours. Every match not playing with friends was kinda awful. Every squad being locked save the vehicle squads who apperantly don’t think new players can figure out how to operate a mounted MG, later on getting into actual squads the SL was either silent and absent or shouting directly stupid orders like having us charge accross an open field towards an enemy objective like it was a WWI shooter, then getting mad and kicking us if we hesitated or tried to pick off enemies before leaving cover. Never had this issue in Squad 44 tho. Might not have air vehicles, but the hardcore players likewise don’t have their head in the clouds

Hi, your friendly Russian here) It's not SU-23 but ZU-23-2 Which actually sounds pretty straightforward in Russian - Zenitnaya Ustanovka (Anti-Air Weapon or Anti-Air Emplacement in rough translation) And numbers are "caliber"-"number of barrels" So ZU-23-2 is an anti-air gun with 2 23mm barrels ZSU-23-4 is a self-propelled (S - Samokhodnaya) anti-air gun with 4 23mm barrels ZSU 57-2 is a self-propelled anti-air 2-57mm-barrels death-machine :D etc Also being the person who saw AS VAL/VSS in real life - it is so silent that it sounds almost like a gas-operated airsoft gun and you mostly hear metal clicks from the bolt assembly moving so Squad's iteration of the iconic silenced weapon is just sad to watch (hear)...

Squads biggest problem is COD and BF failling which brings casual shooter players to the game in hordes.

Can be solved by adding player stats, not KD, but stats focused on objectives, and allowing SLs to kick players with low objective scores from their squad. Can be tweaked but stats are needed. YW!

The armor on airborne vehicles exist only to keep structural integrity so the thing won't disintegrate the moment it touched ground, or when firing its weapons. Maybe adds some false self esteem and sense of security too!

I've played Squad and Hell Let Loose equally. I don't mind having incompetent SLs in HLL but I do in Squad. I feel that Squad has slower paced gameplay and dying is more impactful which is one reason why if you have poor leadership you will have a poor time. If I play HLL I can be SL and put down a spawn point, update an attack mark every once in a while, and send the boys in. It's simple and most people get it. So much more coordination required in Squad and after gaming for over 15 years I don't expect any coordination in any game to be honest.

Considering the equipment, I would recommend WW2 German Squad tactics, which were based on the MG being the centre piece while being supported by riflemen. Military History Visualized has a good video on it. I mean, it is worth a try. A group that regularly plays together should be able to pull it off.

The reason you suck at the VDV is because you're playing historical. Aka they got smoked in Hostomel achieving nothing.

Just like Niko Bellic, the Irregular Militia is Serbian, not russian.

Some matches are bad, some matches are good, depends on the team, usually server admins are good and removing SL’s who don’t have a mic, then after a bit the new SL’s become more responsive and we get some really good matches, I will say it takes effort and not many choose to be SL’s because of the extra work, I always do my best and get the command chat going

Thanks to this tutorial I had one of the best rounds as a VDV commander in a while! Our armor rushed Novo, closely followed by logis and infantry in BTR-Ds. Armor effectively halted the Canadian advance and the infantry secured the cap. By the time the counterattack was crushed, the arty was ready, so I put a creeping barrage onto Airfield. The barrage was quickly followed by a combined assault of armor and infantry filled APCs, taking it with virtually zero resistance. The game ended in a decisive victory, when the enemy Leo was destroyed in Canada's desperate attempt to retake hangars. Also, hats off to my team, such competent SLing is rare these days.

Im honestly amazed suicide drones or what have you haven't been added to the militia's vehicles/gear. It would fit pretty well given how forces in Eastern Europe are currently fighting each other lol.
