Why you SUCK with the VDV - Squad Guide

hey guys, first of all thank you so much for the views, likes, comments and subscribes! it has been overwhelming this video.... secondly, I left out some crucial info when talking about the VDV. some of it intentional, some of it not. so let this comment be a sort of addendum: I didn't talk about the SL grenadier role. this is because i covered the SL role with grenadier in my militia guide, and abhor repeating myself. TLDR: the SL grenadier role is available to the VDV, it gives 2 fragmentation and 6 smoke rounds for the officer to use. this is very useful for pushes as the SL can cut off enemy's line of sight to screen for infantry assault etc. etc. I didn't talk about the sniper role mostly because it seems antithetical the VDV's playstyle and also i hate marksmen with a burning passion due to their lack of utility. TLDR: avoid the sniper role and play riflemen instead, ammo bag is OP. on the AS VAL: I did not know that the AS VAL has a flash hider, however, even when i factor that into my analysis, i still maintain that a regular rifleman with a ammo bag will be infinitely more useful to the team than a guy with a good gun. my reasoning is simple: if you are good with the AS VAL, you can be good with a regular ole AK - 12 too. TLDR: new information, but it doesn't change my position: choose rifleman. lastly on the AS VAL, it is a short rifle, not an SMG. some corrections on vehicles: The Sprut has a 125mm, not a 120mm cannon. the BMD - 1 has a 73mm cannon, not a 100mm cannon.

To add onto the flaws of the AS-VAL, it has half the muzzle velocity of the AK-12, resulting in a more significant bullet drop and REALLY bad damage dropoff.

One of my best games was in an MT-LB (though it was RGF not VDV). The vehicle survived the entire round, I was the gunner and we had a combat engineer driving. Tons of infantry kills, 2 chopper kills, killed one TOW after it tracked us and then failed to finish us off at least three times. We won that round as well. That RWS gun fucks. VDV is not special forces troops. They are their own military branch like USMC(Marines). US Airborne is part of US army ground forces. VDV is not part of russian ground forces and work on their own. VDV same as Marine Corps is a cultish like military branch with wierd customs and traditions that works as quick reaction forces or shock troops. Their role is not offensive operations but only landing on key points and defend them. So you have to look on the map and seek out bunkers, airfields, crossroads or any kind important logistical hubs of the enemy and move there as quick as possible and camp those places so the enemy lose tickets.

A tip for infantry SLs when playing as VDV: if the squads with the transport trucks refuse to backcaps because they want to block enemy's backcaps, camp their main or some other ignorant bullshit while you're stuck with a logi and an apc, you can get one squadmate(ideally a combat engineer) to ride in the logi with you, and have the other 7 take the apc. Since you need exactly 7 men on the objective for the full capture speed, you can send your apc to do backcaps while you and one unlucky bastard crawl to your desired fob location. By the time you're done with building the hab on the 3rd or 4th point, the apc will likely be ready to roll right onto the objective. This might seem fairly obvious, but I've seen SLs basically treat their two separate vehicles as one and drag the logi through all the backcaps, considerably slowing the offensive. UPD: doesn't work after patch 8.1. You need 9 people on the objective to have the same capture speed as 7 had before. Guess it's misery from now on.

Maybe the Scouts prowess playing battlefield could be more useful in the very early game helping to frustrate the enemy in the Midpoint while you wait for LogicAPCs to catch up. The lack of Anti-armour isn't so relevant yet while getting those initial kills and flanks might be vital in setting up that initial frontline.

VDV is probably my favourite vanilla faction simply because of the Grenadier kit alone which is absolutely my favourite kit in the entire game, 10 explosives and 6 smokes on a quite good rifle with a good holo-sight is crazy good utility, hell I'd use the kit even if it only had smoke grenades, those things are really useful for your team. GP25 is the best grenade launcher in Squad imo, the indirect fire feature of it is underrated as fuck. There is also the psycho mood choice ASVAL scout.. which is really fun on certain maps lol.

All the grenade launcher technically have indirect fire. Pro tip: get your SL to give you a range marker on a target. Go to 150 yards from said target. ADS and aim straight up as far as you can in the air and fire the grenade. It will land ~150 yards away. Congrats you're now a mobile mortar.

If you convince your team to work together enough to do so, creating a logistics train with their slow logi's can be quite effective. Build a hab somewhere relatively near the front but in safety and have heli's ferry supplies to it, whilst the tracked logi's make the more dangerous runs from that depot hab to the front line habs. Reduces the distance they need to cover, and keeps your heli's away from the front line.

There are a few more important points: 1. The squad commander has grenade launcher. It has 6 (!) smoke projectiles, allowing your squad to quickly approach the enemy's point. 2. The most difficult HAT in the game with the lowest shooting distance. To fire, you need to know the exact distance to the vehicles with an error of 5 m.

Squad got one thing wrong. What they call "Kord" heavy machine guns are actual NSV heavy machine guns. Kord are the newer version of the NSV and they have a more modern rectangular muzzle break.

My main problem with VDV: Nobody wants to do logistics in the slow as unwieldy btr-d logistics trucks. Meaning that if you go for armoured vdv and have no heli's good luck getting ressuplied, especially on large maps. It takes the btr-d logi almost 2-3 times as long as a logistics truck to get anywhere and on large maps that is a detriment for keeping team fobs supplied without helis giving them away. My other gripe is that the rolouts on vdv are super hit or miss in most cases. because of your slow speed compared to convetional factions with logi trucks you are always there last, unless ofcourse you have the airboren vdv battalion that spawns with 3 helicopters. The firepower of the vdv when it comes to the bmd-4's though has got to be its greatest strenght, these vehicles are ifv behemoths that wipe the floor with basically everything, and ussualy you get a lot of them. That paired with the vdv having better then standard infantry equipment + the infamous impact grenade makes them really good in CQB/close to mid range engaments and can leverage their vehicles for long range engagements. I do find that unless you go airborne vdv on large maps your armour ussually loses to light infantry and armoured divisions as the ifv's and tank destroyers cant keep up with the mobility of harassing and ambushing at units or the double m1 abrams powerhouse. On small maps like chora though having a btr-d on every squad basically ensures that you wont get rushed down by light vehicles and gives your squad a sh*t ton of firepower in those innitial meeting engagements.

AS VAL quite literally means "automatic rifle; special" it uses 9x39 round which is in fact rifle round

The 9x39 has such pronounced bullet drop that it's really only effective in short ranges. Not an issue in the usual spitting distance of wooded or urban fights but I would not recommend trying to outshoot Marksmen or BRs.

I’m surprised it wasn’t mentioned, but I think a major disadvantage for the VDV is that every squad (not in a heli) needs to be split up amongst multiple vehicles at the start. This can ruin cohesion, especially with dumb randoms/lone wolves who take the squads 2nd Vic with 2/3 of the squad to the wrong area. The INS faction has a similar issue, but their strengths make that a part of the gameplay. Like AT rushing out on bikes.

Thanks to this tutorial I had one of the best rounds as a VDV commander in a while! Our armor rushed Novo, closely followed by logis and infantry in BTR-Ds. Armor effectively halted the Canadian advance and the infantry secured the cap. By the time the counterattack was crushed, the arty was ready, so I put a creeping barrage onto Airfield. The barrage was quickly followed by a combined assault of armor and infantry filled APCs, taking it with virtually zero resistance. The game ended in a decisive victory, when the enemy Leo was destroyed in Canada's desperate attempt to retake hangars. Also, hats off to my team, such competent SLing is rare these days.

The problem is that they're a beast for combined arms. You will never see a apc working with infantry normally lol.

Playing as a LAV crew vs VDV is painful, the 25mm HE does not penetrate the shitty tracked logis they have, so we have to waste so much AP ammo killing one BTR-D that we don’t have enough to kill a BMD if we encounter one next

I think it's not entirely to correct the VDV relies on armor as an "obsession" more so that their role is airborne assault, armor is their game and airborne units in general will not have good logistics until main forces reinforce them

IMO wheeled APCs are much better for offensive then those shit boxes because you will be tracked in a matter of minutes into the assault.

It reminds me of a match from years ago where a BTR squad finally relented and let inf ride with them to hot drop on all the points and guess what? We won... I just dont get why apc sauads dont lean into the combined arms aspect more

The ASVAL as little swing after a full stamina sprint, A scout is only good if it talks to the SL and report. Also the units model afaik doesn't have the iconic VDV sandbag so you can get mistaken on maps.

I think one thing that is often overlooked with the VDV faction is how absolutely terrible the vehicles handle, compared to almost every other faction besides some of the Insurgent vehicles and some of the chinese vehicles the VDV vehicles have by far the worsts controls in the game and steer insanely janky

you have to play them like actual paratroopers they are a glass canon if you have a squad leader that knows you need one quick attack with overwhelming firepower and infantry being inserted by vehicles then you will win
