Good afternoon Monique! Just finished your webinar out in California on 8/17, AWESOME, and with my microphone not working and could not get to this question and missed your email address. Quick question to see if I can get to you through this format. I AM an ATTICUS new use of a few months, LOVE IT, and yet now struggling with my images. My quick question is do you personally use double page bleeds to start ALL of your chapters, or only a select few. I am finishing my real life adventure book pedaling UP the Mississippi and the idea of photos, stock images, clipart, images behind the text of a chapter page is SO COMPELLING and gorgeous from what you have shown us. How often should one use? Once you start should you do for every chapter or pick and choose? Thank you!

Hi Kenny, glad you enjoyed the webinar! You are always welcome to write into support for more help with your image spreads, but how many you use is really up to you. I would say the vast majority of published books don't use any, but some do with beautiful results. It's personal! It sounds like you have some great content to showcase though, so use as many images as the reader will appreciate with your content. If you check out our website, there is a tutorial with a calculator to help you get the image sizes just right: www.atticus.io/calculate-image-size-for-print-and-ebooks/ I hope it goes well!

Thanks for this info. I have a long blockquote in my Atticus ebook, formatted with a single blank line between each paragraph because it's meant to be a letter. I also have text messages separated by a single blank line from the body text. Are you saying this is problematic?
@AtticusWriter

Block Quotes and Text Messages are both special formatting in themselves, so they should be fine but you're welcome to write into support with some screenshots of how you've set it up for further clarification!

Thanks. This is so important to know.. I've been trying to fix a Kindle format to no success as they drop my blank lines to squeeze an ending chapter quote so it doesn't start a new page. Now I know it is not my formatting but the Kindle program that is doing it.

will this software substitute Words? especially for Arabic books? or will I get lost?
@AtticusWriter
@AtticusWriter 9 күн бұрын
It isn't a complete substitute for a word processing program but you can use it to write books specifically. Arabic is more complicated because it doesn't have true capabilities for writing right to left, so that would actually be easier to do in a program you're more familiar with (like Word) and then import it. You can write into support with any additional questions!

So how do you get the scene break feature to work? When viewing my document in Atticus, the '***' shows up on the left hand margin as that. It is not centered in the page. When I try using one of the other scene break images, they are not reflected in the previewer. The '***' stays left justified.

If you're seeing three asterisks that you can edit in Atticus like text, you'll want to delete them and click the Asterisk button from the Atticus toolbar. They may have not imported properly from docx, but that will fix it up!

Not really, as soon as you add an hyperlink it changes the size of the image or icon. Atticus never provided me with a fix, all they said is that is was a side-loading issue because the book was not uploaded to a distributor... This is not user centric, it affects every Atticus Clients. That is a BIG problem. This means you can't have a PDF and a ePub that as the same size of images or icon and won't be able to sell your book on your own platform. You'll have to go though a distributor, or so they say...I'm not even sure that will fix the issue... You'll have to resize every single image or icon in both format, twice the work. Nothing like they say in the sales adds (Ready to print on both format). This sounds like an excuse for not testing extensively themselves the problem and solving it. They had me do all their testing back and forth, debugging the problem for them. This should have been tested in the primary steps before putting the app on the market. It's a simple question of elements and formats and exports...
@AtticusWriter
@AtticusWriter Ай бұрын
This sounds like a miscommunication or misunderstanding within your support request. There are some limitations of formatting, absolutely, but you can certainly sell your books on your own website - it does not need to be through a distributor. We have ways to solve this though, absolutely, some books will take more work to format than others. it depends on the complexity of your content. Feel free to write back into support and we can walk you through the process again with more detail.

Thanks for the vid. Audiobooks for many reasons are a huge thing for books. I use Atticus, am a narrator, and I have published without audiobooks or the ability to narrate at the time, and I still use my original narrator because we dual narrate. I've got all sides of the spectrum. No matter how it is done, it's expensive, whether it be in dollars and/or time. AI audiobooks are not liked very well and can hurt your ratings, not to mention taking jobs from humans. Be careful what you advise in the future. A guest is great, but I'm just saying be careful.

What's a good image height to length ratio for the title image for an ebook? The publisher name is getting stuck over the subtitle if I use the generic, auto generated title page, in the ipad version of the preview.
@AtticusWriter

For the eBook title page, you won't want to judge it by the preview in Atticus, but rather export the ePub and view using Kindle Previewer. We recommend using the specs provided by your publisher - full page images can be the same size as your ebook cover. I hope that helps!

Automated headings within Atticus (like automated chapter numbers) currently only appear in English. You may want to deselect Number Chapter Heading section of your custom theme on the formatting page so it doesn't show at all, and use chapter titles and subtitles instead.

Hi, does atticus allow the importation of pictures, scanned documents without distorting them in the book? Also is there any limitation to the use of fun colours, graphics especially if it's a children's book or plabook.
@AtticusWriter
@AtticusWriter Ай бұрын
Yes, you can import images and Atticus will not distort them, but we do recommend properly sizing them before importing. You can use colors and graphics in images, but all the fonts in Atticus are standard black and you cannot adjust them over an image, so for children's picture books, you'll want your text embedded into the image before you import it to Atticus. I hope that helps!

@@nwandoalayande3411 Distort, no, but Atticus will render using ICC color profiles, which are designed to be as close a match between eBook and print as possible. It may not exactly *match* what you begin with, however, depending on whether your images are saved as RGB or CMYK color space.
