I have a book I am trying to format. I had to rewrite a chapter. I inserted it into the book. I have double checked everything and cannot find an errors, but there has to be. It is printing the entire chapter in the heading area. Of course when I move it to atticus it converts all that to chapters. This is my first book I am publishing and I a trying not to get frustrated. Any help for me???

OhMyGosh Atticus is EXCELLENT! I've used Scrivener for years, and it is STILL so cumbersome and difficult! I just bought Atticus, and just from playing with it a few minutes, and listening to some tutorials, I can see that this program is not written for Tech Nerds (like Scrivener is) but this is made for WRITERS-people who want to write, not spend hours trying to figure out how to make things work! I am so excited to get started! THANK YOU ATTICUS!

I watched the previous video on how to size my images, as well as this tutorial. I used Canva and I did the exact specification you put for a 6x9 book. I literally watched and did it with the video. However, when I upload the images, there is white stripe at the bottom of the picture in the 'print book preview'. What have I done wrong??

I am having problems with chapter images. I only purchased Atticus a few days ago to format my book, and am able to add a chapter image but it's huge, and maybe I'm blind but I can't seem to find a way to make it smaller? As it is, it's taking up the whole page 🤪 I can't find anything online so perhaps somebody here might know how I do that? ☺

Can the chapter title be clickable ? Which will land on that page ??

For the ePub version, if you click the title in the Table of Contents, it will bring you to the chapter. You can also create internal links to bring you to a chapter title, but you can't otherwise apply a hyperlink to your chapter title. If you don't love the automatically generated title page, it can be best to custom create one either with a full page image or just a regular chapter dropped into place. You can message our support email if you need help!

I just bought Atticus a couple of days ago. I've wanted to try it out since it was first introduced, but never had the funds. I was almost going to go for WordPerfect since it has an eBook creator feature which I've used before--and then thought, why do that? For Less money, go get the program you REALLY want! I've been using Draft2Digita's formatting tool for ebooks, but it doesn't let you choose your own fonts, and there's very limited themes. Also, I don't like how their PDFs turn out. Atticus doesn't have all the fonts I'd love to be using for my kids' books, but I have way more choices than just Garamond which they use for everything. So, I'm happy. If there could be a preview of those fonts that are available, that would be helpful. Getting my middle grade novel ready to republish with a new cover and fresh edits. I want this time to be perfect as I'm going to do a print version finally!

Can Atticus format books written in Apple Pages? Are there AI elements that help with image/cover creation?

You can write in Apple pages, but then when you're ready to import into Atticus, you'll need to save as a docx and upload that file. That's what I used to do when I didn't have Word...but now I just write my books in Atticus. As for AI elements, no. A big reason for this is that we want to make sure our system is not learning from authors work, and keep it safe. However, there are many programs that can integrate wth Atticus or you can use and copy and paste in.

Yes you can. The only thing you need the internet for is to initially log in, and when you want to export your formatted version. I too do a lot of my writing on flights. Just make sure you’re logged in before you roll out :)

In the theme section of Atticus, look down the left side where all the formatting options are. Trim size is the last option. Click that and you'll find it. I wasn't looking left for a few things myself. Like how do I get rid of that drop cap? Pick Paragraph! So, left side pane, trim size is the last option listed! :)

One major problem I have with Jutoh is it hyphenates paperback and I hate that. Are you saying if I turn off the hyphen button I can avoid hyphenations?

All good, I fixed it - anyone having this problem, just slick on the gear icon on the right of the introduction heading, and unlick 'hide chapter image' or relevant one. :)

Is there a way to insert full page images mid chapter or do they alway have to function as their own independent chapters/chapter intros?

Full page images with bleed will need to be between chapters. You can insert a full page image that extends only to the margins within a chapter though. When you insert the image, if you edit it using the gear icon, you can set it to Separate Page. Just be sure to size it before importing. I hope that helps!

Help! I have a scene break then switch POV's. When I type the characters name, that's technically taking up the first line, then the paragraph to follow has an indent. How can I make it not have an indent?

You can either put the POV name in a subheading format, or you can press SHIFT ENTER to start the next line without an indent. I hope that helps!

Having a difficult time finding book software after discovering Reedsy was a mistake. I am writing a textbook and footnote-endnote ease is important. Also in the navigation pane on the side bar, can it also show subchapters or sub-sub chapters for easy navigation?

Not in the Atticus navigation panel, no. If you break your chapters into scenes, you can see scene lists, and you can include your first level of subheadings in the TOC. Hope that helps!

Hi Monique, I have just started to edit a book and am searching around for a suitable editing software. My first concern is that i need to import a fair amount of Arabic quotes, has there been any issues with Atticus and pasting in foreign languages such as Arabic? Secondly, with the Google font option does it mean we can choose different Arabic fonts from their library? Thank you

You would need to have the Arabic quotes set as a Subheading style and yes, you would have to set that subheaading style to one of the Arabic Google fonts available. I hope it works out for you!

I just purchased Atticus. Their How To instruction videos are very bad. Like this one they flicker the mouse arrow all over the screen showing what Atticus can do, but NOT how to do it. They know how to do it but not how to communicate. They need to stop being so full of themselves and do some simple slow paced step by step instruction videos. I am thinking of asking for my money back.

This is excellent! I'm happy I learned how and where to upload my ebook cover in Atticus! How many pixels should the ebook cover have? In previous videos, you mentioned different Kindle and Apple iBooks pixel requirements.

Kindle recommends 2560x1600 you should be good to go. Apple iPages restricts to 1600x2400 pixels or a total of 4 million pixels

Self-publishing like a professional is hard, but FORTUNATELY, Atticus helps us do it for paper and ebooks--it's an enormous relief! Before knowing of any economic aspect of it, I thought that it would be nice to have the book in all formats so that the reader to pick what suits him/her best. But it's great when there is a market for it, too! Derek also gives a course related to audiobooks that I heard is great.

Over 1,500 fonts it's a lot to choose from! Creative Fabrica also has great fonts that I used; many are free or low-price bundles. I don't know if Atticus can incorporate that, too, but I wanted to suggest it as an idea.

Automated headings within Atticus (like automated chapter numbers) currently only appear in English. You can manually change the title and subtitle of any chapter/page in Atticus, but if you select Chapter Numbers to appear in the header, this text will be in English. You can either deselect Number Chapter Heading section of your custom theme on the formatting page so it doesn't show at all, or select the numeral only style under Chapter Number View (also in the Chapter Heading section) so it doesn't have the word, only the number. You may want to try deleting those images and uploading fresh copies. Be sure they're either jpg or png file types. Email into support if you continue to have trouble!

I noticed the the body content shifts in/out from margin, I am using 6x9. Also is there a way to reduce the spacing between the h1 and the body text?

The margins will shift page by page to account for the inside crease of the book - this is exactly how it's supposed to be! You can't currently change the spacing between the chapter header, no, but if you have any other questions, the fastest response will always come from writing into our support email. thanks!
