I totally agree with you on this topic. I have seen other content creators making/selling some licensed items and wondering if they have the license to make to sell these items at markets. If the company who has the rights to all their copyrighted/trademarked items then they will go and let the person know about possible legal actions. So, do your due diligence to protect yourself and your company. Different countries due have different copywrite/trademark laws both within their country and internationally.

I don’t plan on sharing on the internet any pattern, picture or video of my creations. I'm just doing this for my own entertainment. Characters, objects, clothes, bags. As much as I admire you guys for inspiring us, I've seen and heard of more than enough cases, and recently a talented designer gave up on crochet because her designs got stolen repeatedly (she sells clothes). Even when you wear your stuff outside, anyone working for the mass production industry could see it and get it copied. That's also where they get their "inspiration" from, watching what everyday people just living life wear. But it's still less likely to happen than on the internet 🤕

You are doing good, momma! I have felt all the things you talked about here and am much older now…I have grandbabies, now, but would like you to know that the messes that are made during market prep and your time away at the market are nothing to be ashamed of. You are doing a big thing for your mental health by getting away and doing something that you enjoy. The messes can easily be cleaned up and laundry will always be there anyway. Let yourself relax and enjoy some time for yourself!

I am new to this type of crochet, yet I admire the talent the designers share. I’ve recently been following many different designers and each one is amazing. I would have never thought to mass produce a design I did not create. As a home crocheter am I going to have to pay more for patterns because designers have to copyright or register their designs. Seriously could stifle the creative process and possibilities. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. You would have thought the notice they put on their patterns would have prevented this happening.

I totally get where all of this gets confusing because it's a free pattern etc. Similarly I don't know how I would feel if it were one of my designs that popped up. How would I feel if it were another small business vs a corporate company etc, it all feels really messy.. There were definitely mistakes made but she is young and think she just got swept up in all the excitement of it with tiktoks going viral etc.. The good thing is at least it's not went any further! Maybe in the future there could be some sort of collaboration between designer and manufacturer or something? Who knows!

OK, so this is my opinion. But if this girl is continuously selling out at all her craft fairs then she's obviously already made a nice profit using this pattern. If she really wanted to, she could have approached the designer and told her how well she's done off off of this pattern and then proposed the idea about plusses and offered the designer some sort of payment to receive permission to go forward. To make that money from a free pattern and not try to be greatful and respectful is wild to me. At the very very least, credit the pattern creator!!

There are so many factors that go into markets that it's hard to say *exactly* what will make a market successful. I vended at a gay market yesterday that had a FANTASTIC turn out, even though there was a HUGE annual event going on just 3 miles away, but I've had some markets that seemed like they would be very busy, but ended up being kind of a flop.

I think it would be so cute to make the frog in a color close to your mom’s birth stone and then the tadpoles in yours and your sibling’s birthstone colors

Tbf the manufactured duck is still handmade, just by someone being entirely underpaid for their labor in a country far enough away that she doesn’t have to think about them. It’s such a privilege to say “I can’t keep making these it’s too hard on my body so I’m going to outsource to someone who’s physicality doesn’t matter to me.”

Summer markets can be really slow. We did a bunch of school markets last summer, and they did not do well for us. So we thought that they weren't good. This year, we weren't going to do any summer markets because we thought they wouldn't do well for us. We got invited by another vendor friend to do VancouverPrideFest this year, and it was awesome. I'm so happy we did it. But the fires for sure would reduce the attendance. Hopefully your next market will be better. ❤

the markets this year compared to last year are alot slower!! I had a market in Halifax a few weeks ago I made 0!! Not even a 5 dollar critter,,, loved your set up and love the gifts you got from Stacey !!

That's so weird that your walking mechanisms acted liked that. Mine still work but definitely don't walk in a straight line. I'm sorry about your bust of a market. You know I've been there done that. At least you made back your vendor fee unlike me! :( Those sand squirrels were so werid! I had no idea squirrels lived at the beach either!

It's definitely weird to mass produce something from a small business. I wonder if it's so inevitable now that small pattern makers would benefit from creating a licence that other small businesses can buy easily and then the designer can benefit and track it. It was something I'd seen done about 15 years back when i was sewing baby products. A lot of the pattern designers had licenses and communities that you could buy and be part of and then there were limits on the quantity you could produce for sale.

The yarn and stuff is weighing it down. The second walking thing was fine before you crocheted on it

East coast markets are not great either in the summer. Best to take that time and build inventory for the fall. The flies are driven away from the smoke concentration. Look forward to your next market.
