I believe there may have been some misunderstanding regarding the panel bonding process. If you're not familiar with BMW's adhesive bonding practice, it's something they've been using for over a decade, and it’s quite specific in how it’s done. Could you clarify what you mean by 'poorly panel bonded'? I'd like to better understand your perspective on this

@AUTOBODYTECH is that how the factory panel was adhered?? Or was the factory panel a unibody sheet that you cut the damaged section out of? I know bmw glues their panels together, most manufacturers do when they use aluminum, they will rivet and panel bond, the most important part of applying this special panel bond is to clean all bonded surfaces with a surface prep to ensure full adhesion.

@@terrypaquette2824 Correct. Additionally, the area was cleaned using BMW R1 cleaner, which wasn't shown in the video. All flanges are both adhesive-bonded and riveted, ensuring a strong, secure connection. The entire process followed OEM procedures, so there's no risk of the joint 'popping' off. The quarter panel is bonded and riveted, and it would require an immense amount of force to cause that part of the car to buckle

I worked at a bulletproofing company right after 9-11. They were working on a Ford car armor contract, which required Plexus adhesive (which looked like that) on many parts, while we welded some brackets on for bolt-on parts. The 4-door Lincoln Town Cars had Level 6 armoring, ended up weighing at least 7000 lbs, and passed crash tests. I think they said the Plexus was rated at 4000psi. Also, I can't remember the name of the amazing charcoal gray rust proofing we painted on parts. They said it had a molecular bond, and after applying it, we couldn't even sand it all off good enough to weld it properly. It really did bond with the steel.

Why didn’t you show how to grind weld smooth? No matter how smooth the metal may look after grinding, you’ll always have a few pinholes = moisture = corrosion. I use 1 1/2” backer strips and panel bond adhesive clamped with Cleco clamps. No welding = no warpage or pinholes or sparks. Use more adhesive to fill holes = watertight seam, stronger than welding.

Considering panel bond requires the panels to be cut apart after fully cured, I can see how bonding seams like this will be more prevalent in the future

Most glues suffer excessive properties change with Temperature and exposure to solvents. A mix of mechanical fasteners and welds added to a structural repair I think might be better.
