Thanks for the video. I have just purchased a BM intensity pro 4K capture card and wish to capture and archive analog vhs video in original interlaced PAL format. Will DR allow for this? Do I assume it has to be one of the uncompressed codec options to preserve the video in its original interlaced state? I am trying to capture and preserve first before I upscale and deinterlace so that I can go back to the original video at any time down the track. Would I be better to use media express for this first preserve step?

As I say in the video above I think you are better off capturing with Media Express into DVCPro HD than using Resolve. The files will be small and they will know the correct aspect ratio and field order. This assumes you are on a PC - I do not use a MAC so the options there probably include Apple Pro Res which we do not have on PCs.

Will Media Express software see other brands of capture device, or only Blackmagic Design equipment?

Only Blackmagic as they write the software to go with their hardware.

will this work with UltraStudio Recorder 3G ? capturing lilliput monitor screen ?
@dvcltd23 күн бұрын
I do not know as I have not tested it but a lot of Blackmagic devices can capture. If the program is installed with the drivers you can probably use it with the Recorder 3G.

Interesting video, however when I changed 'Progressive' into 'Upper field' for a long clip and I got an overlay on that clip saying 'Davinci Resolve Studio' ... Resolve is not that free as one might think.😵💫

And testing further revealed another issue: capture video via Media Express using the DVCPRO HD format, which don't require to set 'Upper field' in Resolve: the overlay(watermark) is also there in Resolve free and the sound has a few seconds delay (done during capturing - double checked outside Resolve). So that is not nice neither. Blackmagic: Thank you! 😭 Any way: one should pay for the Davinci Resolve Studio version once you have a too long clip. From what size on? AND Blackmagic Media Express has an issue with the DVCPRO format. Possible solution: extract audio from the video and shift the audio compared to the video ... OMG! I can accept the concept of time limitation, no problem. But the sound delay issue is unacceptable = a program bug.

@@ivanburvenich5142 What is the project settings and the setting for deinterlacing in Resolve. If the project is progressive and you set a clip to interlaced Resolve will deinterlace it. Normal quality deinterlacing is in the free version but if you set HIGH or NEURAL ENGINE these both require the Studio version.
@ivanburvenich514223 күн бұрын
@@dvcltd Correct! The Project Settings - Image Scaling - Deinterlace quality was set at 'High' (pitfall default setting for a free version ...). I set it to 'Normal' and it worked. I'm very new to Davinci Resolve ... hard to know that. I'm satisfied with the result, however. Thank you very much! 😀

@@ivanburvenich5142 Your welcome. Obviously you do not get that if you have an interlace timeline. The normal deinterlace is not bad but the Studio ones are better.

@@ivanburvenich5142 I do all my video in progressive anyway. I think it looks sharper than interlaced. Even on old legacy videos converted to digital look better as progressive scan in my opinion.

funciona com Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 ?
@dvcltd2 ай бұрын
I don't think the USB shuttle is officially supported any more but assuming it works when you install the drivers the way of capturing will be the same.

I would find it much simpler to capture 4k via hdmi rather than importing via card.
@dvcltd2 ай бұрын
Capture via HDMI changes the file as it comes in slightly and will take up a lot more space. If you copy it off the card you get an exact copy of the original and, as long as the card reader is fast enough, it will be a lot quicker that capturing it by HDMI.
