It sounds like Media Express is only available with Blackmagic devices. Does the software also recognize other capture devices?

No it only works with Blackmagic.

As always David a great video. DVC set up my current computer years back with Edius 7 and Blackmagic design. I was able to capture my old DV tapes with no difficulty direct with Edius. Yes I still have some old footage I need to archive! I've now upgraded to Edius 11 but Decklink does not show in the drop down box, the same is the case with Media Express which shows Intensity Pro only. Have I set things up wrongly? My Blackmagic driver is version 9.7.5.0

For EDIUS 11 you will need a more recent driver. If you use the EDIUS setup tool it will update it for you, if not just go for either the latest or something after 12.4.1. Then it should appear in EDIUS. If you have the Intensity Pro then that is what will show up in Media Express, even though all the drivers are called "decklink"

Thanks for the detail in your video. How do you remove the time code window , I noticed it is in your capture as well. I haven't figured out how to eliminate it. Thansk again for video.

The video I was caturing only has timecode on it because the camera was set to output all the on-camera screen info - including "SP", 16 bit and the timecode to the video output If I had turned that off on the camera then it would not be there on the recording.

looking for a solution to record videos with my Sony FX30 and sound from my Sennheiser MKH50 which goes through my analog rack gear to interface to desktop. I want to directly record the videos in 4k with the Blackmagic DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G to my computer, do you think this Software will be able to give me the full quality when saving recordings? why composite? are you going with that one because your camera does not have HDMI? because you said Composite, S video are the best?! dont get it

I generally only record standard def through a Blackmagic card as for all HD I copy files off cards/hard drives. For SD component is best, SVIDEO second best and composite worst. But most SD devices only have composite or SVIDEO (if you have a SCART socket it will be composite out). For 4K you need HDMI or SDI and the Decklink will do that. However the only 4K formats are uncompressed - huge files which will need VERY fast hard drives to capture and possibly MJPEG (I have not tried the latter).

@@dvcltd yea my FX30 got a full-size HDMI 2.0 port and i also wanna go with the Atomos ninja as Monitor on top of the Camera and a Video Assist 12G on the right from me to get a bigger reference via SDI and/or HDMI.. its over the top but dont wanna sell them because i love both, normal monitors would do the job too i know^^ Maybe later i wanna record Prores Raw too again. And the uncompressed big files are okay for me, i was testing and playing with Prores Raw recordings the last months, and can handle the big file sizes, i just dont like to use CFcards.. plugin, plug out SSD's etc.. or to convert it to DNG files to use it in Davinci..... i would love a simple solution to just record and geht the files as fast as possible onto my desktop.. I also printed a SSD Dock, installed a bidirectional switch with connected SSD to 1 Video assist and 2 desktop with a button that changes the way, but that SSD will lose write/read Speed because of the switch, its all fun to play with but was sadly not very effective in therms of speed... so i will try that Decklink now! thanks a lot :)

If you download the drivers for your Blackmagic card it is included. It only works with Blackmagic cards.
