Thanks for the stream, Stunty. Watched it on saturday morning. I am intrigued by the Rietveld Audiovisueel comp and the Romanian avant garde record. Did you find that Rietveld Audiovisueel in Den Bosch? The Divine Comedie album is a favourite of mine from this year, so good.

Hi Stunty. I was thinking after your stream yesterday. Don't you think that there is a bit of dilettantism in the way we listen to music, or should I say consume music? We can switch from Traditional African music to musique concrete or jazz or whatever genre even if it is obvious that tribal music is entwined with the very lives of the people when western music is very often just entertainment (I know that it is more!). This is not a value judgment. I don't highly value any genre above the others. Have we become consumers even in our most genuine passions? I know that this is too serious a question for the morning!! But I felt like sharing it with you and the viewers of your stream.
@StuntrockConfusion
@StuntrockConfusion 10 күн бұрын
Well, I will reply to you in two parts : in the western world, music only became potentially entertainment with the Renaissance. Before that, it was part of the fabric of rituals, religion, power, and information. In non western cultures, it remained very much so for much longer. But isn't that a positive, that music could become art? Why should music entwined with the very lives of the people have a higher value as their nature is more imposed and of a cultural reflex fashion? That's a question for you to answer, as it also is a vast one ^^ Switching between all of those is my way of refusing hierarchy between "genres", to force people who might have bias towards this or that o confront themselves with it, as they come to me for a specific thing. The jazz heads who trust my selection in that particular genre will have to endure, techno, dub, musique concrete, noise, etc, and hopefully sometimes take something from that, and reprogram themselves a little.

@@StuntrockConfusion As I said, it is not a judgment about the music itself. I would not dare to say that one musical genre or style is superior to another. My idea was about the way we consume music. I am personally always in needs of new artists to listen to and in a way never satisfied with what I have. This appetite for new emotions and this continuous need for « fuel » to keep the flame alive just made me think. I also want to say that I like the eclecticism of your streams and the opportunity you give to many artists or less known musical genres to be discovered. As for the question: Is music an art? I can’t answer to it with words, but I can assure you that I very often felt it was while listening to music.
@StuntrockConfusion
@StuntrockConfusion 9 күн бұрын
@@nicolasschmite997 That just means you're not a collector, owning something is not enough. The need and crave for continuous influx of new challenges is IMHO healthy. And of course music is art, or can be so, depends on the intention behind it.

Morjens Stunty, i missed you live, again, last night. So cool you played that Lauritz rec, I preordered that, not arrived yeat. His brothers record was my top 3 purchase of last year. I love how they make jazz with rocknroll attitude, so great. You were talking about Burton Greene some weeks ago, was new name until then to me but found his -65 free avant jazz release after that, very cheap 8 euros reissue. Were you talking about something that he was misunderstood at the time or do I remember correct? What did you mean about that.
