Why is it 'finish right' when the dog is supposed to go to the left side of the handler? thanks in advance!

This video says that “a 6 foot leash is required in beginner novice.” This refers only to obedience, correct? Not to rally novice. The rally regulations say nothing about leash length, far as I can find.

Can the dog sit of its own accord when you halt or should it stay standing until commanded?

Question: I am just starting. I am working on about 5 or 6 signs each week because as a handler I do not know the signs well enough so I really need to walk them. Should I not treat my dog at all while I/we are learning the signs and wait until I go through each 6 signs a day? Looks like the leash hand is left hand. Can I keep leash in my right hand?

Demonstrations of 301 and 302 are different. In 302 (at the end) the handler walks forward several steps before turning left. In 301 (at the end) the handler makes an immediate left turn without going forward several steps. They are essentially the same signs with a right or left turn at the end - Which video is the correct way to handle the end?

In this video the handler crosses the dog's path before the elbows are completely down. A judge recently marked off for that. Is this actually not a perfect demo? Do the elbows need to hit the floor before the handler crosses the dog's path?

How can tjhe dog be moving in a heel while sitting? Make sure your feet are in the same place after the pivot. Your dog MUST heel with you during the pivot.

This video is extremely UNHELPFUL. We can't hear a command and there is no clarification on if the down must be done in motion, if a stop and stand is acceptable, stop and sit and then down. Not a clear video at all.

From the Rally rules: #27. Stop and Down - While heeling, the handler stops forward motion and the dog downs in heel position. The dog must stay down until the handler moves forward. (Stationary)

Has anyone noticed that in many of these examples, the demonstrator starts off with the WRONG foot. #3 after the sit, she leads off with the RIGHT foot. #4 after the sit down, she leads off with the RIGHT foot. If these are suppose to be examples how to perform each sign correctly, won't the handler loose points for leading off with the incorrect foot?

Good question.. I would also like to know
@ThePracticalDog3 жыл бұрын
There are no specific requirements in either Rally nor Obedience regarding which foot a handler steps off on. Stepping off with the left foot consistently while training and in competition to indicate movement is "smart training" as it results in subtle signal training for the dog telling the dog you are moving forward. Alternately, practicing the stay while always stepping off on the right foot, begins to be a signal that the handler would be moving but the dog is to stay. Basically, these are training preferences and used by those of us who strive for both consistency and a higher level of performance - but there is no requirement with the AKC or UKC as to which foot is to be used when leading off with a dog. So it isn't the "wrong foot", it is handler / trainer preference.

there is no "incorrect foot", it is trainer preference, not a rule with the AKC, so no, no points will be deducted because the sign is being preformed correctly.
