Effective May 1, 2018, this exercise will be performed as the last individual exercise in the Novice A, Novice B and Preferred Novice Classes. This new exercise will replace one of the current Novice Group Exercises.
The principal feature of this exercise is that the dog remains in the sit position.
The judge will order, "Leave your dog to get your leash." The handler will walk forward, pick up the leash, turn and face the dog. The judge will order, "Back to your dog." The dog must not move from the sitting position until after the judge has said, "Exercise Finished." The judge will tell the handler, "Clip your leash to the collar and maintain control of your dog." From this point to the exit area, the dog and handler may interact without penalty as long as the dog remains under control. The dog must exit the ring under control without jumping, pulling or tugging on the leash. The team in this video has performed the exercise correctly.
