Effective May 1, 2018, this exercise will be performed in the Open B and Preferred Open classes. This new exercise, in addition to the Stay - Get Your Leash Exercise, will replace the current Open Group Exercises.
Open 4 & 6 Command Discrimination (Down, Stand, Sit).
The principal features of this exercise are the dog's correct response to the handler's command and/or signals and that the dog stays until the handler returns to heel position.
In this sequence, the judge will give the first order to "Down your dog," followed by "Leave your dog." The handler will walk forward 15 feet, turn and face the dog. (The 15'marks are on the floor.) The judge will signal the handler to stand the dog, and then order "Leave your dog." The handler will walk forward another 15 feet, turn, and face the dog. The judge will signal the handler to sit the dog and then order "Back to your dog." The handler may use both voice and signals for each position change and each stay command.
The performance in this video is qualifying. There would be a deduction for the handler not returning her arm immediately to a natural position after the down signal.
