In Asia women cannot rule, because gender is more important than blood. In Europe it was bloodline. They prefer a legitimate daughter over a bastard son. The reason why they decided to make Artoria a woman had more to do with marketing. Original idea of FSN had male Arthur and a female master, which we now know as Fate Prototype. But Nasu thought switchig their genders would make it more appealing for the audience. Of course we still have Proto Arthur in FGO which I am glad. Artoria's dragon heritage is pretty lore deep and not just Fate lore. I suggest checking out Geoffrey of Monmouth's History of the King's of Britain. there is a story about a red and a white dragon where the red dragon sybolises the coming of King Arthur, while the white dragon symbolised the Saxons, an enemy, Arthur often fought against. Many past King's of Britain were personified as dragons too. And in some of Monmouth's manyscripts Arthur was associated with a golden dragon. the image of the red dragon we've seen in Fate and FGO is most likely a reference to Ddraig the red dragon of Wales which also often is depicted as a representation of Britain. They accepted an eating contest, and they lost it. But they wouldn't keep their word and tried to steal the cows anyways. And when they got caught, fought, and lost, they were bailed out by Big Daddy Zeus. I don't think Lostbelt Dioscuri are really out of character.

Regarding why Castor is an Avenger, even within PHH he claims to be against humanity for turning him from divine to mortal. This is because even if the (more recent) consensus is that he's from Tyndareus, some versions make Pollux son of Tyndareus too (like the Odyssey) and others make Castor ALSO son of Zeus (specifically the Hesiodic Catalogue). Considering they're also Syncretizing the twins with the older versions of the nameless twin gods, they went with "legends transformed Castor into a mortal after the fact", something close to Innocent Monster.

in my opinion as good as atlantis/olympus are, a lot of the servants that appeared in there didnt have a good impression, alongside caenis and the dioscuri i remember disliking odysseus a lot too(despite liking their designs) i think the writers knew that the nasuverse has a lot of (both human and servant) hateable characters and wanted to make them stand out a little but they ended up pushing the envelope a little too hard while not giving us enough reasons to actually enjoy them at first

What’s even weirder is that nobody in game questions the gender flip at all. I know it’s joked that everyone’s used to it by now but even then there’s at least a brief mention like with Danzo. But Dioscuri? It’s not mentioned at all. It’s as though Pollux actually is just female in FGO’s universe.

I can understand how you're supposed to write the antagonist of the story not likable for the sake of satisfaction to see their downfall, but it's also bad when they're going to be playable because they should be likable for players to want to get them. And the funny part is they did too good of a job, a lot of people (me included) hate their guts. I mean, at least Pollux we summoned is nicer but Castor? F*** that guy! I'd use any "inferior" ST Sabers over them in a heartbeat (And I don't have them yet, so I never have to decide it) in fact, I still have Musashi as my top ST Saber, and Trung Sisters if I want to use ST Arts Saber.

Personally, I didn’t really care the final grade of the Dioscuri, they were my top 1 hated characters in all fate franchises not because they accurately wrong, not because I didn’t like design (they’re good), but because the writers made a “too way” great job on making me hate them. (My top 2 hated is morgan cause domino effect and top 3 is Artemis (who the f*ck is that brainless bimbo wannabe and where the hell is the badass goddess of hunt!!!)). The funniest thing of all, is that Caenis was supposed to be my top 1 hated character, but when the Dioscuri appears and began to act, my mind was like “holy hell! Those guys are worse” and the more lostbelt 5 progresses, I began to respect more caenis (despite I still didn’t like him) and to hate more the Dioscuri. 20:19 - 20:27 I know the feeling, that’s exactly how I feel about both Koyanskaya and Caenis. I know Koyan is a ridiculously good Buster support, but I hate the character. The only enjoyment I got from her constant cameos were the time she got captured and tortured during the China Lostbelt, and in Fae Britain when your girl Melusine took out one of her tails. As for Caenis, ironically I found myself enjoying the twins trash talking Caenis and actually agreed with Castor when he called Caenis a rabid animal bearing its fangs at everyone and everything around it. And by the time we got to that final fight with Caenis at the end of Olympus, I was sick and tired of this character and wanted nothing to do with her. On the bright side, hey Daddy Iskandar is next 😃
