If there’s going to be a version of Vlad III that solely based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, I think it’s best to have him as a Caster, since it’s stated in the book that he’s well-verse in magic, specifically alchemy and the black arts. Maybe draw some elements from Castlevania’s Dracula and Hellsing’s Alucard while we’re at it.
@nickolaswalker59074 ай бұрын
I actually want go more in depth with this Caster Dracula, specifically where he learn to use magic. In Bram Stoker’s book, it was stated that Dracula learned magic from the Scholomance. In Romanian folklore, the Scholomance is a school of dark magic, where ten students (some versions say seven or thirteen instead) attend the school at a time for a seven or nine year curriculum. There, these wizards-in-training would be taught by the Devil himself, and they would learn how to perform all kinds of magic, with the most notable kinds of magic being taught are talking to animals, controlling the weather, and riding dragons (specifically a Balaur/Zmeu, a type of dragon in Romanian folklore). And everything that these wizards learned, they have to write down in a single book. By the time of graduation, nine students would leave the school, while the tenth student cannot leave, as they are in the Devil’s service for eternity, forced to make the weather while riding a dragon. For more information on the Scholomance, check out this video by Tale Foundry. espanolbot2.tumblr.com/post/633216764980953088/the-devils-school-where-dracula-learned-magic/amp So, in summary, Caster Dracula learned all kinds of magic from the Devil’s magic school, including talking to animals and controlling the weather. Not to mention, Dracula, Son of the Dragon, riding an actual dragon sounds pretty badass. Kinda of cool way to qualify for the Rider class.

While I’m at it, let’s talk about some of the characters from Bram Stoker’s Dracula that can be summoned as servants. - Abraham Van Helsing: Let’s get this guy out the way. This guy would definitely qualify for a Caster and an Archer. When people hear vampire hunter, Helsing is the first to come to mind. But in the book, he was a very goofy medical doctor with no prior experience of vampire hunting (although people seeing him as a great vampire hunter would influence him as a servant), however, he does have a great wealth of occult and folkloric acknowledge, which is why I qualified him for a Caster. As for Archer… well, he just so happens to bring a lot of stuff for vampire hunting when he arrived to England, including guns. - Lucy Westenra: She would be a Berserker. Lucy was an ordinary, beautiful, innocent young woman, until Dracula striked. She would die in the book, only to be brought back as a vampire, devoid of humanity and free will, and attacking anyone to fill her hunger. So she’s easily qualifies for Berserker. - Jonathan and Mina Harker: Last one I have and saving the best for last. Jonathan would be a Saber, because in the book, he wields a kukri as his main weapon. A kukri is a short sword with a distinct recurve in its blade that originated in the Indian subcontinent. As for Mina, I got almost nothing for her. She does develop a psychic link with Dracula, albeit temporarily, which could qualify her as a Caster, but I’m not too sure about that. Then I had a thought. In the book, it’s noted how devoted they are to each other, both as lovers and partners. So I was thinking, why not summon both of them as one servant, similar to the Dioscuri, the Trung Sisters, and Anne Bonny and Mary Mead. Not to mention that they will get the vampire hunter influence just for being associated with Van Helsing.

Extra Vlad's Valentine CE is actually a reference to his original Master in Fate Extra. She's a "scary" parody of Ronald McDonald's whose whole deal is about Cannibalism, so making a burger is a neat reference to that. Then we also add another layer which is the "dragon steak" pain scream of Elisabeth Bathory. Even if not addressed in the video, The Vlad from Extra hates Bathory for what she did to his original Master in CCC, so jabs at her are sometimes added here and there to basically scare her off.

Regarding Berserker Vlad vs Apocrypha Vlad, this situation is born because of the author writing himself against the wall. It's impossible to summon Apocrypha Vlad outside Romania, as you get Extra Vlad instead. So to work around it, they made the Berserker version, who is for all intends and purposes, just Lancer of Black with a nerfed Version of Legend of Dracula constantly active. But personality wise he's no different from his self from Apocrypha.
@jordancottrell19964 ай бұрын
The Dracula design we see in the Apocrypha anime wasn't in the light novel it's based on. The description we're given of Dracula in the light novel is more or less Berserker Vlad's design in FGO with the exception that Vlad's lance turns to dust once Legend of Dracula is activated.

I really love Vlad Berserker, to the point where he was the first servant i ever grailed. I just really like his royal demenor with a kind heart, yet he has no qualms about showing his dark and brutal side. He cares about his people and is willing to do anything for them, I'd say quite fitting for the historical figure too. His hobby of sewing for the other servants is supremely adorable. Also, vampires are just cool. His design is really, really good, and he's very attractive 😅

4:16 The manga adaptation of Apocrypha does do justice to his Legend of Dracula being activated. No giant fangs, just markedly pointy canines. No big "elf ears", just ears that are pointed now. Small bright rings in his irises that look a little like Arcueid's Mystic Eyes when activated (or pissed). The clothing gets a high collar so often associated with depictions of Dracula. Look it up, that version looks appropriately scary compared to the anime adaptation.

Yeah, the Apocrypha manga handled the vampire transformation with more restraint, settling for giving him a cape with a popped sharp-angled collar (which might have actually been Darnic's, I'm not sure) and more wild expressions (chapters 28-29, if you want to check it out). FGO postulates that embroidery is something Vlad enjoyed in life, hence his sewing hobby... I'm not sure if there is historic basis for that, but I think needlework is probably the best they they could come up with at the time as a "harmless analogue to impalement". A particular moment in FGO that I enjoy with Vlad is in Las Vegas Summer event. After getting commissioned on short notice to do some sewing and learning that it was actually Carmilla, who commissioned it, he keeps an eye on our shenanigans. And he encourages Carmilla to just be more honest with herself about what she actually wants. It's a small moment, but it's nice to see that he cares.

Pretty cool that we get two versions of a guy like this. It's perhaps not as well divided as Archer Nobu vs Avenger Nobu, but we have a similar thing going on of the historical figure and the reputation left behind both being represented. An Assassin form would be kinda cool to see. Likely not his strongest incarnation since it's not what he's mainly known for, but sneaking into an enemy camp means he's probably not half bad at stealth and recon if the situation calls for it. Going back to the Nobu comparison, maybe go like with her Zerker form and have Assassin Vlad be more like his younger years in terms of design and personality, as a way to further distinguish him from the other two.

If it helps in details for the scape goat, in the Old Testament people would use animal sacrifice as atonement for sins. For Christianity this practice is done away with primarily because Jesus is God dying on the cross for the sins of humanity, being the “sacrificial lamb of God”. Maybe it’s a connection to Vlad’s devotion to Christ but his need for forgiveness/a scapegoat because of his cruelty and atrocities. Hope that helped.

I personally prefer Vlad's Apocrypha design over his Extra design. More visually interesting. I'm not a fan of the spiky armour. The vampire stuff was probably inevitable with all fun powers it opens up for him but it's nice to see a version of him that focuses on his historical self over Dracula. Usually it's the other way around and you get variations of Dracula with allusions to Vlad. Vlad was the first time they used Innocent Monster, wasn't it? I really like the options that opened up for exploring the discrepancies between historical figures and the legends about them. Part of what makes heroic spirits interesting is that they're the combination of a legend and a soul associated with it. There's a bit of existential horror to that with people becoming tied to legends unrelated to the lives they lived or being reshaped so drastically by people's perceptions while continuing to exist after their deaths. Someone writes a horror novel inspired by you and now you have to spend your afterlife as a movie vampire. You're suddenly made aware of centuries of political propaganda distorting your deeds until it's the image most believe or tell stories about. That's now a part of your existence in such a way that you may have to fight that version of you some day. Realistically, I don't think Vlad can undo the existence of Dracula. At best, his wish would probably cause someone else to get summoned as Dracula instead of him. That might be good enough for him, since he'd stop getting summoned as a vampire. I do wonder who would end up becoming Dracula in his place. Would it create a situation like Sasaki? How would that new person feel about Vlad over this? Imagine Bram Stoker becoming Dracula and getting summoned alongside Vlad. I can't speak for the phantom but I'm still hoping you'll give Mephistopheles another chance. They definitely didn't use him to his full potential but there's also a big issue with people just not knowing enough about Faust to get all the references. The choice to not make him a real demon ties into some really interesting stuff about how they reinterpreted the themes and different versions of the story.

There is actually a connection between Dracula and Hamburgers, though it's obscure enough that it's not certain FGO would be referencing it with the CE. Basically there was an anime movie in 1980 called Dracula Sovereign of the Damned, and there's a scene where Dracula eats a hamburger that became a small meme in modern times. @@CrazyYurie Somethings I would like to add in the defense of Vlad is that since Vlad is a very well known Heroic Spirt, that would actually be a pretty big detriment for Vlad as being stuck as a general and not being able to fight. Due to his legends being well known, Vlad's spying and night raid tactics can actually be used to the Reinstatement Army's advantage, especially since the Righteous not having much in the way of intelligence on the Reinstatement Army, which would make planning such tactics difficult. But also since Servants don't need to sleep or unequip gear to rest, which will make night raids less effective, but also put the attacker at a disadvantage due to the faster response time and possibly expecting a night raid ahead of time. Also Vlad won't be able to employ his famous terror tactics, since Servants don't leave corpses and not being able to personally impale people in a fight. Especially for a defensive siege in enemy territory with short prep time. A lack of prep time is the biggest problem any siege defender will face, which is what Vlad had to deal with, as seen with having to rebuild a castle in a day and a lack of traps at the northern gate. Two things that would have greatly helped Vlad would be allowing for a prolonged defensive war instead of a decisive defensive siege, or Vlad having access to his Servant abilities. A prolonged defensive war would have allowed Vlad to utilize tactics better suited for a smaller and less trained army, compared to a defensive siege fight against Konstantinos, an expert in defensive sieges. I would say that a prolonged defensive war would be what Vlad would excel at compared to a decisive defensive siege, but sadly, politics forced the siege. With Servant abilities, Vlad would have a much better time employing his tactics as he would be personally leading them, with the night raid being quite freezable due Vlad having a good chance to terrorize the Phantom Spirit soldiers in a fight regardless of knowing about Vlad's tactics. The best counter to Vlad with Servant abilities that the Reinstatement Army had was Pope Johanna, due to her whole Pope stuff, but even then, Vlad would have greatly reduced the moral of the Reinstatement soldiers.
