How do you get the right lane to be a continuous right turn? TMPE won't give me a seperate light to keep it green

Its just a green right on every cycle. Make sure its a dedicated right turn with lane connectors or lane arrows in tmpe. Unless i’m misunderstanding the issue.

@@YUMBL yeah for some reason whenever I setup the traffic light, I only get 3 lights, one for going over the overpass, one for coming off the overpass and going into the city, and a third for turning right from the expressway onto the arterial, but for some reason I don't get a light option for turning right onto the expressway from the arterial.

But with road hierarchy, doesn't that mean everyone is forced to use the same interchange and forced to enter the arterials, causing a bottleneck, instead of being able to utilise unused roads. No wonder you get bad traffic at 20k instead of at 100k
@YUMBL
@YUMBL 20 күн бұрын
Nope! You build a second interchange up the way for access to that area. Decentralize everything. Road hierarchy is simply fewer connections on higher capacity roads, and more connections on lower capacity streets. The “unused roads” are for local traffic, just as one would want in real life.

@@YUMBL but as a thought experiment say we have a housing district, and an industrial district, with your system, the commuters all go through the same few intersections, but in a plain grid, they have far more paths to choose from and shorter ones

Grids are useful too. They should also follow road hierarchy where some roads are more major than others and have fewer connections. Sometimes that looks like right turn only onto avenues in US cities.

I have two theories for avoiding traffic stop later when the city is large and I have tested only one theory so far and it works. What I always did was try to get industry in one large area for the entire city (because of pollution). I never realized, because traffic AI is greatly flawed, you can't do that. What happens is, you get a "chit" load of industry trucks all taking the same routes, exits and rampons and this will cause traffic to come to a standstill as cars stop traffic to change lanes, which is unrealistic but that's what you're facing in City Skylines. My guess was, if industry is spread out in smaller sections throughout the city, in different spots, you end up with a smaller amount of trucks taking a similar path and thus not bring traffic to a standstill because of endless flow taking same route. So what I did was build smaller sections that split into residential, commerce, industry and business...about four per city land-block. You still get some areas of traffic in the red because traffic is just high there and the city is huge so there's a lot of vehicle. That's fine, as long as the traffic is moving and not stopping completely, that's all you can ask for in City Skylines. About 90+ percent of my traffic map is NOT in any red at all. My second theory is to build industry along the main highway the comes into and out of the city. I have not tested a city like this yet. You can have as many roads as you can afford and that won't fix the traffic problem because it's an AI issue. Trucks will still take the same path to and fro, even though you have a "chit" load of paths they can take to get to the same spot. Industry is the biggest traffic buster and you must spread it out and keep it small, in order to force all those trucks to NOT take the same "d'ham" paths and clogging "chit" up.

As I watch this video (good work on it). there is now a mod that allows individual lane control like tmpe did on CS1. I think it's called traffic. it is a wip and control of signal lights will be added. At the moment it just does lane control.

It's kind of funny how hard it is for americans to come up with some other ways to reduce conflictpoints. If you only have money for reusing the current brigdes you can convert the junctions on the arterial road to two semi roundabouts (formed as drops rather than cirkles) and if you have money to replace the bridge, you can build and big roundabout over the whole motorway. Both forms are common near towns in Sweden.
@YUMBL
@YUMBL 29 күн бұрын
It’s really not that engineers here aren’t aware of roundabouts. It’s that the junction you’re describing is insufficient to handle the sheer number of vehicles entering and exiting the freeway. Your solution would work in a rural place with few vehicles. Where the dogbone belongs.
@jacobkilstrom
@jacobkilstrom 29 күн бұрын
Are you seriously calling this a rural place? maps.app.goo.gl/hjdKp7oMS8iuhDcGA
@YUMBL
@YUMBL 29 күн бұрын
No. I’m saying the only places in the US with few enough vehicles to allow a dogbone to work are rural. We have more cars and more drivers in more places than Sweden. It’s a problem that renders your dogbone solution inappropriate where a DDI will work.

What you've done at 20:15 with the lights-controlled roundabout, made me think of a real-life scenario, and maybe you wanted to check it out with safety in mind. At least, past the realm of CS1, with its non-lethal car-pedestrian accidents at every crosswalk - Coordinates: 51°22'01.7"N 6°10'00.4"E Edit: Imagine making the 8/7-lane roundabout (24:40) but you don't know that IMT exists. 💀

This would be way cooler if you could add basically two ranps side by side at different heights, allowing for a stacked intersection. So say the west to north is set at 12 high same as East to South. South to west and north to east are at 24 high. No lights, no congestion. Can't see this working unless they mod it to offset the ramp all the way left or right instead of center. Or a mod that allows you to convert lanes into a raised ramp.
