Best performance on whitetail for me was the 125gr Partition, but, I love the 120 Ballistic tip and 90gr Varmageddon in my Grendel due to same point impact at 100yd - No need to re-zero before deer season (not saying you shouldn't check your zero!). I'd use the Lehigh 110gr Controlled Chaos but POI is drastically different (6" high and 2" left!). I'm trying 95gr V-max this week and hoping for same POI as the 120BT and 90 Varmageddon. Fingers Crossed!

Don't use lead, just use copper. That's my view now. Fine lead particles get all through the meat, not good. So small you may not see them, or even feel them when you eat, but they are there and X-rays prove it.

Great shot! I know this won’t apply to custom loads but I have heard that you loose bullet speed with factory loads out of a barrel longer than 16 inches. Anyone know if this is true?

Great video. I'd offer a couple tips. Anything with a finish, even nitride, put some surgical tubing or something similar down in the bottom of your cleaner to stop the metal-metal contact. It'll eventually wear that coating off. You should even do this if you're using a basket. Also, break everything down when you clean: extractor, etc. you'll need to recoat everything with oil, all the way down to internal parts and springs. Ultrasonic cleaning with strip every bit of oil off the parts. A quick easy way to do that is to set up a second cleaner with ultrasonic lubrication oil in it and ultrasonically lubricant the parts. Just take them out and blow them off just like after you clean them. And then from there you just reapply whatever normal lubrication you use for cycling the rifle.

The Barnes TTSX work just fine. My daughter took down a pronghorn at 323 yards. I absolutely hammered one myself at 185 yards. Do not make the mistake I did in buying these SA SPPs. I am very disappointed with these. Earlier this year I bought 2K of these because they were available. I tried a limited amount and had a few problems only with a revolver. I ended up ordering 4K more, thinking OK I'll only use with with only my semi autos (which had not exhibited any issues with the limited amount I had tried with them). Big mistake. With this second batch (seems even worse than 1st) I bought I have maybe 10% not go off in my STI 2011 open style gun. This is a gun with a hammer and 18lb main spring. Just today in a competition shoot, I had 4 not go off. I have had some not go off in my SVI limited gun (another hammer; not striker type gun). Oh and in my Dan Wesson revolver I estimate 25% will not go off the first time. This is in single action mode which provides more force than double action. If you use these for loads in a carry gun, you are putting your life at risk. I would not buy these if there's any chance you will be using these in a competition, unless you don't mind losing due to the ammo. I would not consider these for practice only ammo, unless they were priced less than half of a reliable brand. I have been reloading for 22 years. I have used CCI, Winchester and Federal small pistol primers in all 3 of the guns mentioned and not once experienced a failure to ignite. I also noticed the difficulty in trying to get these to flip in the primer tray. I'm guessing that the center of gravity of SA SPPs is closer to mid height than on other manufacturer's. I consider this only a small minor annoyance and is an order of magnitude less problematic than the failure to fires.
@SnowbirdProductionsTX8 ай бұрын
It's interesting to see that you had issues with a hammer fired gun as well. Who knows, maybe it was a quality control issue maybe a storage issue? Regardless, I am glad that other primer types of started to appear on the market.

I don't think you'll have problems with the 123 SST bullets. In the end is always bullet placement that's most important but I did encounter issue with higher grain polymer tips like the Nosler 100 grain ballistic tips which fragmented a lot and didn't punch the animal as much as I would have hoped and they took longer to expire.

As a fellow Grendel hunter I can attest to its lethality. 120 gr gold dot has been my go to projectile over a max charge of lever evolution and cci 41 or 450 primer. At 2550 velocity it's hard to keep in the animal but the ones that did mushroom perfect and retained around 90% of their weight. I also load 100 gr barnes ttsx running 2800 and 123 sst running 2540 with lever evolution as well. IMHO the best overall Ar caliber as I've got good hits over 800 yds with factory elds along with excellent on game performance. Appreciate the video and sharing the Grendel love.

125gr Nosler Partition needs 20" or longer barrel to get 2500+fps in a Grendel. I think it is a great projectile way better for hunting than the Hornady 123gr stuff. The 100gr Nosler Partition can get performance like 100gr Partition does in shorter barreled 243's

This is why I opted to rebarrel a Zastava Mini Mauser to 6.5 G. I'm a lefty, so no off-the-shelf mini actions. There's 2-300 fps being lost due to gas gun bolt fragility, based on the latest 6mm ARC data in Hornady's 11th Ed. reloading manual.

Don’t use a Nosler Ballistic tip period if you want to ethically kill deer Antelope ect. Your dumb dumb dumb if you hunt with anything like a ballistic tip ELDX type bullet. Use at minimum a good old cup and core with a thick jacket or a bonded bullet. Did you see what happened on that entrance hole ? Let me guess there was no bullet recovered because it blew up and did not pass through the animal? So what would happen if you had the wind blow that bullet into the shoulder? That’s right no penetration and a horrible wound that will not kill that animal for weeks. It’s stupid to use those bullets period!
