I don't understand how they just didn't measure the average width of each log to prevent over chinking. Way too much mortar in my opinion. Just saying.

Do you have any videos showing your solar setup? I purchased a camp a few months ago not too far from your location and starting to look into adding solar! Great work!

It looks like all the logs were cut to the same dimensions. Could it be done on random log dimensions?

The work is beautiful. Unfortunately, there is a lack of knowledge for the protection of wood in areas sensitive to decay and concepts for resistance to physical stress. The climatic conditions of that area, wind, rain and snow, will quickly do justice to all the good wood used, forcing you to maintain and modify the reinforcement of the structure in several places. Anyway, well done for the commitment shown. Greetings from Rome

municipal by-laws currently in most jurisdictions would require you to have a apprived conventional septic system, electrical inspection if off grid, required insulation, a plan and building permitetc making this type of project illegal according to by laws at least in Nova Scotia, Canada. My brother in law tried to build a cabin" but was pevented by municipal inspectors from carrying it out. Can't do this type of thing anymore due to government interfering in our lives with reidiculous by laws trying to make everything "safe" and politically correct. If you want to do a "cabin" one would have to do it behind the back of munisipal building inspectors of be stopped and possibly fined. At least in Novq Scotia, Canada and I assume in other provinces in Canada. Pity!

I just came upon your channel after looking for dovetail cabin builds. Congrats on building your beautiful cabin. I just recently built my dovetail jigs. Looking at your jigs, it would appear we purchased them from the same person. I live on the north shore of Nova Scotia in Cumberland County. Currently milling my timbers to prepare for our first cabin. Wishing you continued success in 2025. Gary

I can promise you that heat from the fire is escaping. It's being turned cold by the uncovered windows. If you cover the windows and the door with thick drapes you'll keep more of your heat in and reduce the amount of wood you burn.

I like it a lot. The addition must make a world of difference. One of my wifes only requirements for our cabin build is that it has to have an indoor bathroom. I'd be fine with the perfectly nice outhouse you built, but she's a little fussier than I am. Thank you for sharing your build, you did a fantastic job
