The tone shift from 1.6 to 1.7 was so jarring; yes the new music was C418 but it made no effort to fit seamlessly with his original album. That was the first thing I noticed, but the truly bad aspect to me was the climate system selecting for similar biomes to cluster together, creating huge spaces full of the same scenery (you could sprint for up to hours until you found a cold biome if starting in a jungle or desert), add to that the cave generation nerf which people have elaborated online about and it was too much, despite all the little things I liked or didn't mind. Even in 1.6 were disturbing signs of a change in character that no one had asked for, namely horses and baby zombies, which, even Notch pointed out the latter as being something so bizarrely at odds with his conception of the game. I'm not surprised I'm not the only one who disliked the horses. They feel like a mod because they kind of are a mod in a very literal way, just tacked on to the vanilla game. Since they were added, their armour pieces have plagued every loot table in the game. They also don't follow the same simple design philosophy of the other mobs that makes them so iconic, instead having various colours and then a set of various patterns overlayed, making it harder to immediately identify what it is from a distance like you can with the other animals. Obviously, adding donkeys and mules alongside them was gratuitous and damaging to the simple nature of the game too. Overall it was just a really poor way to add a mob that I thought would make sense to add and still do. I used to love collecting mossy cobblestone when they only generated in dungeons, there is something really captivating about having a rare and limited number of blocks out there that are worth searching for, but now I've learnt that 1.8 made them easily craftable with 1 cobble and 1 vine... I suppose it was to compensate for the disgraceful erasure of the extensive cave systems (which made both dungeons and mineshafts less common). Thanks for reading this shit no one cares about.

It feels like they're not afraid to use some of the more whimsical ideas that come, like giant beehives and skylands. These are some of the things I love most about terraria, how fantastical yet familiar things can seem.

As someone who believes Minecraft was at its peak during beta 1.7 (1.8 changed the world gen, killing old famous seeds and beginning the slow march towards boring "realistic" terrain), I'm glad to learn of this mod. I'll give it a shot.

You should try out Reminiscence next, it has been my favorite twist on this style of mod. Rather than mostly just focusing on old Minecraft, it blends old ALONG with a lot of the new, as well as some modded stuff for fun but not to the level of ruining the OG gameplay, like copper tools or the aether dimension. Would be cool to see a video on it maybe, I think it deserves to be showcased alongside mods like this and BTA.

The golden age of minecraft has to definetly the period of time between the alpha and 1.8.9. Now what i call the "modern golden age" of minecraft has to be 1.14 - until the caves and cliffs dropped.

I was an attendee of Minecon 2016! It was honestly a great time. For me at least, it was pretty much what you thought about as a youngster - a huge gathering of people who were all super into the same game you were super into. Even some of the parents taking their kid knew their stuff, while waiting in line for merch I had this lovely conversation with this mom who was waiting there in her child's place all about the world that she and her family played on, as well as my worlds. It felt pretty special to be there in person to see the new update revealed, and I did get to meet a bunch of KZbinrs and Mojang devs. I still have my photos with SethBling, CaptainSparklez, and Antvenom, as well as my iron sword signed by Jeb. I also happened to sit down for lunch outside the convention center right next to the Pocket Edition dev team - I didn't realize it was them at the time but they got my attention and asked if I was enjoying the con. I told them I was and had a really nice chat with them. Sure, there was definitely some moments that fit in a cringe compilation, but none of it was stuff I attended or was involved in, and it's a really pleasant memory of mine.

There is something in beta 1.7.3 that brought me back to minecraft, and I dont know why. There things that I love about modern minecraft, like caving, moss, all the redstone tools but... I cant seem to play it... I just start a world and then loose interest even before going into the nether, sometimes even during the first minutes of playing

I started playing in Beta 1.8, a lot of poeple say that was the first version to feel off or the moment to end the golden age. I see why since there was already an ending to the game, but I didn't feel like I needed to do it back then. I still played how it was played when there was no end. I also think release 1.2.5 was still that classic feel

I feel like too many people refuse to admit that the ‘golden age’, wasn’t really the game that was, but rather the game they want to remember. It’s easy to point at modern Mojang and say they were the problem, even if the truth may not be so simple.

I kinda want a mod that emulates the game's updates as if we were back in 2010. Like you're playing alpha X.X.X and you get a notification that notch just released the next update and given the choice to update when you next boot up Minecraft. These updates would be at some pace based on your playthrough time or something. If you get too bored, a button that says "take a break until the next update" that would skip to the next update immediately. I want this because I want to play Minecraft as it was being made, building up the knowledge with every changelog. Also the skip button would let you skip the 1.9 gap

I have a similar feeling with plants vs zombies, I was probably somewhere between 3-5 years old when I first played it but I replayed it relatively recently in 2022 I believe. When I replayed everytime I saw something I didn't remember I thought "I must have never gotten to this part" but then I'd keep playing and see something I DID remember so that has to mean I DID get to that point and that keeps happening until I got to to the roof, the final level in the game, but the thing is, I KNOW I never finished the game so some of that has to be false memories. I honestly kinda wish I hadn't replayed it because now I feel like my memories have been replaced, I don't know what memories I have of the game are actually from when I first played it and what memories are just from me trying to fill gaps in my memory, it also doesn't help that I played the mobile version of the game, which was the same version I first played but obviously the game has been updated and there's probably a lot of things that just weren't there when I first played it and I'm now being gaslighted by the game into remet

honestly i had the same thing happen while making this video. i still have memories of stages in this game that i never actually got to on my play through for this video. that’s just a result of this game’s optional level structure, but it was still weird. but the stages i visited that i did remember playing, i do kinda feel like those memories have been replaced. it’s a strange feeling for sure

I love this concept so much, and it really makes me want to do the same thing. It's like an archaeological expedition, uncovering the secrets of a long past civilization and trying to make sense of how they lived. Makes me miss my first worlds too. They're sadly long gone on completely dead PCs, yet I'm still fortunate enough to have the seed for my first world, which is way better than nothing.

The alpha and beta up until Beta 1.8 is the Golden Age. It’s fascinating to hear people describe versions post Beta 1.8 as something to aspire to, it’s such an alien mindset and perspective to me. I am definitely the Victorian child exposed to sour candy here.
@lpfan44914 ай бұрын
Tbh, if I were to ever direct a team to make a game, I would hopelessly wish for them to make it as content filled as current minecraft is. The issue is how this content seems to be structured almost randomly and quite convoluted on one end, and rather barebones on the other end. Consistency is what the current game lacks and that is something that the simplicity of Pre-1.8 Beta provided in spades.

This video is very relatable. I also have these moments of thinking "I will remember this", although most of the time I will, in fact, not remember "this" at all. At some point in my childhood I became aware of this phenomenon and even started saying that phrase to myself on purpose. I would look at something, mimic a camera with my hand and take a mental image. It didn't really work because now all I can remember is the very first time I ever did that: I was in Hungary with my family and walked through the neighbourhood we were staying in. I took that mental photograph when I passed one of those "beware of the dog" signs in Hungarian on a garden fence. Right after I watched this video, I heard a song playing on the radio that I liked, but I had already missed the point where they announced its name and there weren't any lyrics either. It kind of reminded me of the same thing you talked about. I try to think about the song as much as possible so I will remember it, but I don't have any real way of seeking it out - much like with these memories we try not to forget. In the end, it depends so much on luck whether or not one of these memories will resurface. Maybe through a certain image, smell or melody, but you can't force it. That is intensely scary to me and I think back then in my childhood, I already had this fear of forgetting. This video really spoke to me and it was insanely well-made (as always). I adore the vibe of your channel, it always calms me down. It's exciting to see you talk about topics such as this!

I'd say Minecraft has 2 golden ages now. #1 is 2011-2015/16, #2 is 2019-2021.
@scarybarry13235 ай бұрын
I have a strong urge to return to one those early release versions, so my golden age is probably release to 1.5. I still consider anything after horses to be “new” I think the reason I consider those early release versions of the game to be so nostalgic was because my main exposure to Minecraft was those KZbinrs back in the day. The only version I was able to play was a very stripped back pocket edition, so I always yearned off of those cool features people on Xbox and Java had

As always, much love, passion and skill went into the creation of this video. I sincerely hope that you do not become demotivated from content creation by the fact that your non Minecraft videos dont get nearly the same views. I know how crushing it can feel to not live up to perhaps unrealistic standards that you feel you have to reach, but you clearly have a certain passion and thoughtfulness for this subject and others that you wished to share with someone, which matters far more than any superficial metrics. I don't mean to be dramatic, I'm just hoping that my words might abate some doubts you may have, and that you'll continue to create more content like this, that you are passionate about.
