This stuff looks great, man! I have SO many questions about your HUD set up. I see what you have in the video description. I looked up the GoPro Telemetry Overlay and I see where it's using the camera's accelerometers. And I looked up RaceRender and I see how that's getting your GPS position on track (I think). Where is your heart rate coming from? It looks like RaceRender runs on your phone. And, your phone can track your heart rate. Are you running something like a smart watch, or are you running a chest censor? Going to dive through your videos. Hoping to see something on how you set up your HUD in the video feed! It's really impressive, man! Just a suggestion, if you have multiple camera angles, it may be useful to do a tiny picture in picture of the opposite camera. So, if you're showing the front ... have something somewhere that shows the rear view. You've already got the footage. A lot of car channels do separate footage for front, rear, feet, and dash. Your HUD footage is so detailed I don't think you need to worry about the dash. But, since you do already have front and rear facing cameras ... in my opinion, it would be nice to always be able to see both regardless of which is the main focus. Keep it up, man!

Is that heart rate monitor working well? A healthy person would not have almost 200 bpm doing a low intensity activity. If you are under 20 years old and have trained a lot of cardio, for example running marathons it maybe normal, If not, I would really go to a heart doctor.

Thanks man! I get the heartrate from a Polar chest strap which connects via bluetooth to my phone. You can see me start the recording with the app at the beginning of the video. It has internal memory so I just start it and ditch the phone. Afterwards, I download the data and import to Telemetry Overlay which I use to do most of the telemetry except for the bike's stuff and track map, which that is Race Render. To capture bike data, I use a POD-300 which connects to my Power Commander V, it can log anything that is connected to the PCV so I use it for the throttle, gear, RPM and speed (although I also use my Racebox for speed as well). You are correct the CBR is not throttle by wire, however, it has a throttle position sensor so the ECU knows what fuel map cell it's in. I plan on doing a tutorial vid in the future.

Once upon a time not too many years ago I held an AMA Pro race Supersport license and won a lot of WERA regional races during that time. Before I got to that level I was humbled in the same way. One weekend early in my riding career I was bumped to Advanced at a Roebling Road trackday and couldn't believe how much faster the white background numbers were than me. Passing me out the outside of the last turn at Roebling at well over 100mph making me feel like I was standing still. It was demoralizing, but I kept pushing and within a couple years was running with them. Started with a two piece suit and everything. Reminisce about those days all the time - there really isn't a whole lot that can top the feeling of pushing a powerful motorcycle to the limits of traction on a circuit track.
@alixvandurand

This is so rad. And even more so you got to that level of competition. It is extremely demoralizing when I'm pushing myself to what feels like the absolute limit when I have these dudes 30 years my senior just dancing around me without breaking a sweat. But keeping at it track day after track day, unlocking new secrets and raising personal limits I find I'm now staying about the midfield in advanced without pushing much when just 6 months ago I was struggling to maintain even an intermediate pace.

Just my opinion: The HR is concerning. How old are you? I would recommend to lighten your diet and less salt. Try stretching. Try to meditate and relax to calm down. The max HR formula is 220-your age. For the seating position, I would try to sit a bit more back and get more off of the bike. Your whole thigh should hug the tank to get more control and stability. Half of your butt should be off. This would allow for less lean and more speed. Also, try to look further ahead to slow things down. I used to ride CBR600RR 08. Good luck!

Sir, if those are are Lee Parks Deerskin gloves, please consider getting something with sliders in the palms. I was fortunate enough that my only crash in a pair of Lee Parks Sumo R gloves came at Barber at Charlottes' web while I was moving at a slow rate of speed and it was a lowside. One of glove burst open but did keep me from getting skinned up. The bigger problem though is that that they "grip" the pavement rather than sliding. That sent me tumbling. In a more harsh crash, the lack of sliders would likely have caused my wrist to be torqued by the grip between the glove and the pavement, most likely leading to wrist damage. I learned my lesson and moved on to Alpinestars. I only spotted your glove in the very beginning of the video, so maybe I didn't identify the glove correctly. Best of success in your track adventures!

I use Dynojet's POD-300 to capture the RPM, speed, gear and throttle data. I wear a chest monitor that connects to my phone via Bluetooth for the heart rate. I basically record a "work out" and I'm able to save and then export the data as a FIT, GPX, or CSV, etc that I can import into Telemetry Overlay which is what I use to put most of the telemetry on my vids. The bike telem from the pod-300 I use Race Render cause I liked the look of the custom gauge I made.

One pro tip: stop locking at you speedo, for whatever reason you are looking there, stop it, put some tape over it if you can't.. it makes you slower and every time you look you loose focus for the track - there is a good reason pro riders have no Speedo, and thats because its irrelevant, you have to feel how much speed is appropriate, and you may never develop that sense if you continue looking there.. Ah and another thip: when you try to follow riders in front of you you tend to copy their movements in the moment they are doing them, but because you enter the corner 20 meters behind them you enter the corner too early and as a result run wide often... Keep it up ✌🏻

This is the comment I was waiting for. I noticed I was looking way too much at my dash but funnily no one said anything about it. I'm actually looking at the tach because I'm trying to stay in my powerband without going too close to limiter. I'm sure I can do this by ear so I should do as you said and just put a piece of tape or something over it. And interesting note about following riders' movements ahead of me making me turn too early. Will fix this asap. Thank you for taking the time to write this.

@@alixvandurand no problem, I'm glad to help :) You can certainly do it by ear, you'll develop a feel for it quite quickly. If you focus on your sight, so looking at corner exit (sorry for the bad translation I hope the point gets across) you'll notice how bad it is for your line if you take your eyes away from the track even once.. also alot of people get scared once they see how fast they go, I've also seen you closing the throttle twice at least because you've took your eyes away from the track - which is totally natural, when looking at the dash you can't see where you're going... If you really need to check if you're in power band visually, get some RPM lights that you can see with peripheral vision As we say in Germany, remain seated ✌🏻 Edit: ah and I would love to see some suspension telemetrics, I think that would be very interesting especially to analyze the data together with the videos

I'm going to upload a video showing how I do it but there's really nothing to it. I use the stem mount that comes with the camera (it has a circular base plate that's supposed to screw on it but I don't use that part), I then fit the stem into the little crevasse between the cheek pads (if you have speakers in your helmet the pads are likely already pushed out a tad, further exposing what I'm talking about). I took an angle grinder and grinded down the stem a little so it fits better but you don't even really need to do that to make it work.
