Great review, just on eBay - by going to AWK online site there’s a significant savings over eBay for some reason.. Oh yeah, based on your video I bought one and just got notification that it’s being delivered today 😊

Hi, thanks for the in-depth video. Do you remember roughly how long was the RG58 feeder from the Nano VNA to the antenna? Did the IC-7300 show the same SWR results as the Nano VNA?

Really enjoy this video for a few reasons… You show who the calling station is, you explained how the calling station was selecting contacts and you played it at a volume that wasn’t too extreme. Very well done short clip here. I’d like to show it on my KZbin channel that helps to encourage people to get their license. I’ll be sure to credit your channel and put a link to it in the description section of my video. Keep up the great work mate! You never know if one of your videos will be the encouragement someone needs to go for their license! All my best, Larry de K7HN

Hi James. As someone only just back into radio and interested in contesting you should be made aware just how invaluable this video is. Information on contesting is so fragmented across the internet and without a single resource (beginners and up - A-Z) that it makes hard work breaking into it. Being able to watch you contest whilst using menu options and the rotator has given a unique perspective of actually operating. I've been at contest meetings with the local club but my goal is to go solo hill topping to which this video has helped my enthusiasm and confidence no end. Thank you and good luck.

Glad you liked it and found it useful! There's nothing like diving in and giving it a go, but hopefully this highlights the operating. Not to say my contest operating is particularly good, I'm still working on that! 73 James M0JCQ

@@M0JCQsSOTAChannel Myself as a non starter but with the experience of being present at a couple of club contesting events with seasoned folks you come across very well James. Not only your enthusiasm but vocally which no doubt helps bagging contacts. Once my hill toppers setup is complete I'll get in touch as I fully intend to be transmitting from the width and breadth the UK. Well, on the lumpy bits at least....

I have the same antenna. What unfortunately started well ends up as a total flop. The resonances have shifted dramatically, now I really ask myself what the problem is? 20m - 99 kHz, 17m - 326kHz, 15m - 398 kHz, 12m - 502 kHz, 10m - 606 kHz, 6m - 925 kHz. What kind of shit is water flowing into the box or what could that be. I am desperate. The SWR only shows blood red.

I've just received the same antenna. Mine has the same yellow fibre glass rods, but mine has white wire and blue cord, so is even more obvious. I'm missing the 5 nuts and bolts which prevent the antenna from folding up. I contacted the seller, who says to send the missing parts would cost him £24 postage, a day's wages in Poland! Yeah, right, I can't believe that! I've ordered the nuts and bolts from eBay. I get pretty much the same swr as above. Overall, not a bad antenna for the price.

Great video - thanks! I am looking at antenna options, and this seems to be a good low impact option for my garden. I see on eBay that the seller also has a 40m - 10m version, which is larger, and has a vertical support and guys for the legs (understandably costs a bit more of course).

Great video. Curious... do you spot or alert or both on the SOTA station activation website as the transmitting station on the mountain? Then when you change bands to 40 an 60 do you send an update to the SOTA website? And last is there any limit on how long the activation can be? Hours, days, weeks? Thanks ahead of time for your answers.
@M0JCQsSOTAChannel
@M0JCQsSOTAChannel 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan, I might do both, but more often I'll just spot myself when I'm setup on the mountain. Alerts are great if you're organised and know which mountain you're going to and when you're going to be there... I'm not that organised, so often don't place an alert! I will spot again each time I change bands. Most activations can be measure in minutes/hours, but I'm unsure about limits. I'd assume you'd need to log 4 contacts within the same day to claim the points. 73 James M0JCQ

Awesome video - thanks!! :D Is it OK to ask with your 36 QSOs in this vidclip and taking Wendover Woods as 1 point, does this mean you get a total of 36 x 1 = 36 points? Thanks.
@M0JCQsSOTAChannel
@M0JCQsSOTAChannel 3 жыл бұрын
Sadly not! That would be a quick way of getting to 1000 points for the SOTA mountain goat award. 1 point is awarded as long as you get at least 4 contacts, and then only once a year (I couldn't just keep returning each day!)
