Remember folks and history enthusiasts this film was made over 100 years ago! As a matter of fact it's 103 years old filmed in 1922!!! That would be like someone in 1961 the date of my birth filming America at the dawn of the breakout of the Civil War in 1859 when slavery still existed! In the film the white man demonstrates a gramaphone to the Eskimos so they can hear a recording of the "voice." The 20th century saw the largest changes in inventions that transformed the agrarian lifestyle of Western man from animal and human power to machine power, and even computer technology wireless communication!

Life is so tough in this environment. What if a family does not have a good strong male hunter or an intelligent female to run the household? Probably, survival of the fittest will apply. Respect to the Nanook people. Thank you for sharing your experience with these fabulous people.

It's refreshing to watch the silent version of this without the alienating soundtrack that usually accompanies the film.

So THIS is where all those silent-movie cliches came from! I would love to see this dubbed from start to end with sound clips from Dudley Do-Right and Tom Slick cartoons.

Well, yes and no. This popularized the cliches for 20th century audiences, but they originated with Victorian melodramas way back in the 1860's. This was basically a parody or at least adaptation of those.

Si on passe le film à petite vitesse, à 3:40, on peut lire le nom de la commune de la Corrèze (en Limousin) où a été tourné ce film ; il s'agit de Noailles (Noalhas, en occitan).

I don't see any native people living in Reservations in Canada, compared to Americans. Those tribes have been living in their own area since the beginning, not being moved there by force from somewhere else.

This film is considered to have been the first “farce comedy” in film history. Apparently the lead actor in this 3/4 reel movie - a young man by the name of…wait for it…wait for it…Mack Sennett - thought there was potential in this particular type of “flicker” that Mr. Griffith did not. 3 years later, Mack would get to test his comedic theories out in a new venture entitled The Keystone Film Company…and both history and legend would become, in the words of a very popular modern TV and film actress and activist, a masterpiece and a work in progress simultaneously…that set the tone for visual comedy forever.
