Thank you that means a lot to me. Which online course(s) have you used? Did the progression sequences make sense?

I love this! Your online courses, combined with one-to-one sessions, have been an absolute game-changer for me. Nobody else breaks down skating moves into such minutiae the way you do. So many times people seem in such a hurry to nail a move in a half-assed way and get onto the next one as fast as possible. Much better to whole-ass it!
@SkatefreshVideosАй бұрын
I couldn't agree more. I might have to use your "whole ass" name as that's really what we should all be aiming for. I'd say this hurry everyone is in to learn new stuff is the reason it's so often so poorly accomplished. Patience does pay off in the end, as does conscious and correct practice (which you are very aware of).

I love your contribution with animal names with the Cheetahs. Also adds humor to them.
@SkatefreshVideos2 ай бұрын
I wasn’t at first a fan of the traditional artistic figure skating moves eg “3 Turn” being renamed exotic animals like gazelle and lion. I’m still not quite sure what has been gained with that naming. I like nice names that have some kind of clue to the ma over or technique in the name. The 3 Turn is genius as the skate scribes a “3” shape when going from forwards to backwards on one skate. The Cheetah I named was a wink of humour at all that….
@SaccoBelmonte2 ай бұрын
@@SkatefreshVideos Yeah, I agree totally. It is hard to re-learn all that as "Open Forward Lion" ...the "open" and "close" part always got me. The Lion part is obviously because of Leon Basin. Probably he didn't have a deep knowledge from figure skating since he came from aggressive. Gazelles, I kind of like that because they look like a gazelle switching direction while being chased by a Lion. I use standard figure skating terminology a lot more.

@@SaccoBelmonte This is good to know. I'm using both names so I can speak to both audiences..... I'm totally with you with not understanding the "open, closed" descriptions. For me a "forward outside 3 turn is so clear what's happening (if you know a 3 turn is a now for transition making a 3 shape). I didn't understand why it was called a "closed forward Lion". I was always asking "closed what", shoulders, hips, head? I was continually confused. Only after this half day discussion with Sonic did I get the info (it's the hips). Then it makes more sense. BUT I still think Backward inside 3 turn is immediately obvious what it is and yet Back closed Lion I have to really think about..... I think it must be sooooo confusing for skaters getting into Wizard skating with all these different names for the same moves. Kinda crazy.
@SaccoBelmonteАй бұрын
@@SkatefreshVideos I currently work on better S turns (forward inside to backwards inside). I have the tendency to briefly touch the floor with my toe wheel before engaging the backwards inside part (as a way to know where the floor is) and I always remember that I'm doing a Cheetah. :) I also agree with you these are legitimate moves.

IMO, Asha is the best skates instructor. I learn a lot from her. I bought some of the courses from her website and Udemy. But the wizard course is way over my budget 😅
@SkatefreshVideosАй бұрын
I'm glad the online courses have helped you. They contain a smooth pathway to progress from beginner to advanced level. The wizard course is a very large amount of material as Wizard skating is so complex. I couldn't responsibly put out a wizard course without having a detailed look at all the prerequisite skills. This is why the course is split into 4 sections and can be bought separately. The Advanced How to skate course is a similar level of difficulty and cheaper as it contains fewer skills and less content, so you at least have a more economical option as you reach advanced level.

Awesome! I've been practicing pivots in order to improve my 3-turns or lions and you come up with the same idea. I like how you named it: the cheetah (the cheatar) 😂😂😂
@SkatefreshVideosАй бұрын
It's a semi joke name, as I'm not a huge fan of the animal names but it looks like they are here to stay so I thought I'd join in. I find the artistic figure skating names much more useful and descriptive. Have you started to identify what your weight distribution is between both feet which in the pivot/cheetah move? This will help you become aware of weighting the support leg more over time until gradually one day you'll be able to lift the other skate in the air and do the clean 3 Turn (or Lion). But don't get impatient in that process as it takes a LOT of time to get to lions safely.
@AlejandroHernandez-uz5piАй бұрын
@@SkatefreshVideos yes, I have identify and yes I've been practicing a lot and yet I still I don't feel comfortable enough to do it without assistance. There's one more thing. Since I learned from your advanced course with a flat configuration, it's been difficult for me to get rid off that tiny jump now that I have a rockered frame. But I keep practicing. Finally, I guess the name o lion comes from Leon Bassin, who kind of invented this street/figure skating that he called wizard. What do you think?

Does anyone know what is the difference between Wizard skating and inline figure skating?....Are they totally different?....
@julianpenfold1638Ай бұрын
No kind of skating is "totally different" from any other kind. Wizard incorporates turns (mainly 3-turns from what I have seen) but the style is quite different from inline figure skating - much more "street". Wizard tends to be done outdoors and is very freestyle, inline figure skating is usually done indoors with quite a prescribed set of elements including spins, jumps, steps, done with "elegance", to music. I have to say that in general, and Asha is an exception because of her artistic background, figure skaters are on average much better at 3-turns than "wizard" skaters - I think partly because there are simply more figure skaters but also they are more coached and structured and are building on more than a century of prior understanding. But I am biased as a failed figure skater. I like an extended free leg!

@@julianpenfold1638 No kind of skating is totally different - but it is, "quite different"?.. What does that even mean? Sorry, look: I understand that they are both expressions of the same thing - skating: traversing a landscape while balanced on wheels - I meant in terms of technique and technicality: not, aesthetics. I can clearly see that they're not the same proposition in terms of aesthetics, style, setting, or performance... I meant what, exactly, are the practical differences in skills, techniques and approach, if any? What, exactly, makes Wizard skating different from figure skating - or any skating?...If I was an AI who had never encountered any such strange behaviour before, how would I be tutored to be able to tell and describe the difference between the one, and the other?.. If that is actually essentially just a matter of style, philosophical approach, and venue - not different technical skills - it would probably been better to just say that.
@julianpenfold1638Ай бұрын
@@lewis7515 They are probably more similar to each other than say speed skating and aggressive skating. Fundamentally both are about being over your skate, balanced, and controlling your movement. Someone who is excellent at one would be able to become pretty good at the other, given the right input and some time and effort. You've doubtless seen examples of both; what do YOU think the differences and similarities are?
@SkatefreshVideosАй бұрын
@@julianpenfold1638 Agree. The wizard skaters also use two foot transition on curves with a deep cusp and pump exit. I’m not sure where this came from as it seems less traditional artistic??? A question for wizard founder @leonbasin perhaps?
@julianpenfold1638Ай бұрын
When are we going to see "wizard" skaters doing brackets, rockers and counters? That's surely the next level once you've mastered the 3-turn.
@SkatefreshVideosАй бұрын
I doubt many will go down those additional routes as they’re even more complicated and difficult. Occasionally they come out I think by accident….
