I don't really think of things like this as a "drill" - to me it's all just skating. But yes, a lot of my skating time is spent doing basics, gliding on one foot or two, thinking about my posture, where my weight is, trying to make both sides even. I enjoy it just as much as the "fancy" stuff.

I agree, it;s more fun to just do movements and 'stuff' that you know needs doing. You have so much experience that you know what those things are (plus you've had a lot of classes in both inlines and ice) so you have a whole range to pick and choose from.

Hi Asha I absolutely love your content! Would you ever consider making a video discussing pain caused by rollerblades? I.e how to set up yourskates, how to size them, understand what the right fit is, so that you don't experience pain? Or even discuss whether pain is normal, in the beginning or all the time etc? I ask because no matter how I lace my boots, and how loose they are, The balsl of my feet become incredibly numb after a few minutes which causes my whole foot to be in intense pain until I take the skates off. My toes are just almost touching the front of the boot when the pressure is on my foot yet it seems they may be sized improperly but so many suorces say so many different things :(

Do you have soft or hard boot skates? You shouldn't tighten the laces around your foot area as it will cut off circulation to your toes. The only place you should tighten your laces the most is the mid-ankle area (where the curve starts) to keep your foot from sliding back and forth in your skate. My toes move freely inside the skate but my ankles are secured to the skates and give me a lot of control of the skates.

Hi, great idea for a video, I'll add it to the list. I know that ball of the foot numbness. It is usually caused by lateral pressure in the toe box area, so imagine gripping and squeezing your foot between the two areas where bunions stick out on people... The boot is basically too narrow (sideways) so it's squeezing your foot. This is the hardest part of any boot to stretch or 'wear in'. You may find that the larger size up is a better fit. This is the hideous difficulty involved in buying skates online without being able to try them on first. It's probably the biggest problem in skating before getting on the things. I usually recommend people use their shoe size in skates, but depending on brans and model, this isn't always right. In Powerslide boots I need to go up a size as they are quite a snug fit for example. But I've had that pain and when I'm in a size up it disappears as the pinching stops. It's a very specific pain that one. I assume you have a hard boot skate?

@@SkatefreshVideos Hi yes they are hard boot! I am a UK 5 (measured foot as 245mm), but bought the FRX 80 in a UK 6 (255mm) so I thought it might have been good. The toe juuuust about doesn't touch the top of the boot for me so I think you are right, that the width is then too tight But it stuck out to me that you said it is hard to wear in, does that mean that it is possible? So after some time I will eventually get used to it? Hearing that would make my day ahah

@@pavelbuchnevich1229 Yep they are hard boot, and honestly they are too hard for me to tighten the laces, I can barely pull them lol. But that is interesting, even though I have loosened mine completely, I still don't have space to really move my toes at all. Length wise they are fine so I guess jsut the height and weidth is then the problem since that feels very constricted for me

@@SkatefreshVideos I was able to test out the boot and liner separately just now When I have my foot in the boot with no liner, it is a perfect width and height. I can fit 2-3 fingers between the back of my heel and the back of the boot, there is lots of height and lots of width for my foot too freely move around When I use just the liner no boot, it is super snug and comfortable, my toe just about touches the top of the liner and it doesn’t feel too tight But when I have the liner in the boot, it’s just way too tight. I can’t move my toes, my ball and arches become super numb and tight and painful :( Do the liners themselves break in easily? Can that get wider and taller to mold to the boot? I feel if it was just a little thinner I wouldn’t be in so much lain

@ thanks for the reply. I am skating on PS 3*100 and looking for an alternate type of skate, with less speed and more maneuverability. My skates are super fast, especially with the high quality bearings I installed recently but I also want to explore low speed tricks and backward skating. I started already practicing exercises from your backward skating videos but I pickup a lot of speed and it is a bit scary. I live in Los Angeles. Hopefully you will stop bye one of these days to teach classes I wish to attend. Skating is a great activity which combines legs strength, cardio and balance and good skating is a lot harder than it looks. Thank you for sharing your numerous videos, it has been a big help for me to learn and progress. I am not yet where I would like my level to be but it is a journey. Take care and thanks again.

I noticed you don’t use 3 wheels any longer. Why is the reason?
@SkatefreshVideos

When the new style rockered skates came out about 5 years ago I was asked to test some by @endlessblading and @nnskates. I became more interested in wizard skating as it suited the artistic freestyle background I came from and the slight rocker really helped with that (and I could still street skate and teach in those 4x90 skates). I also noticed that my fitness improved when I went from 3x110 to 4x90 because when I was doing a street skate or distance skating, I had to push harder and focus more on good technique to go the same speed on smaller wheels. Large wheels are easy for generating and maintaining speed and I enjoyed this additional workout as it just helps my overall health and fitness. The older I get the more essential it all is. Going faster in larger wheels doesn't mean you're necessarily getting fitter and you'll probably have to spend more time skating to get previous benefits. But the speed of 3 wheels is intoxicating, I know. For me the 4x90 just suited my skating needs.
