This was my biggest gripe with the SH2 remake. It's a good game, but it's missing that dreamlike Lynchian vibe. Which happens to be one of my favourite aspects of Silent Hill.

1:15 2:09 These are also used in Capstone "The Pinnacle of Entertainment Software" Software's 1995 first-person hack-n-slash action RPG Witchaven, shooting fireballs at you. Those various kids with budget family PCs could've probably played old shit like Shadow Warrior (if you disabled gore and swap the shuriken for darts). The home console versions of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets are pretty interesting, particularly Eurocom's take where many portraits initially depicted the developers as seen in an Xbox prototype. Too bad Electronic Arts didn't give them the pass after previously letting KnowWonder do it. American dev studios really were fortunate when it comes to these gargoyles and grotesques, even a shovelware one such as KnowWonder and the overly ambitious but not entirely competent people at what we sometimes call 'The Pinnacle of Being Civvie11's Nemesis'.

David Lynch is a major inspiration for many of these atmospheric, dreamy horror games. Shenmue, in some ways, also has a Lynchian quality-particularly in the dialogue, which sometimes feels strange and surreal. Robert Bresson’s cinema has similarities as well, with its use of 'un-acting' actors who talks with no emotion.

This video is already 3 years old, but I'm going through all of your Harry Potter videos, and I haven't seen you play the PS2 version of Philosopher's Stone, which actually was released after Chamber of Secrets, during the hiatus they took for the third movie. I have played some of it (PS2 Philosopher's Stone, that is), and it seems to be almost the same as this game, only with different plot points and spell challenges, but the same mechanics (sneaking, learning spells by reading, a more open castle, limited amount of beans you can carry...), but the rest is 1:1 CoS. Couldn't finish because it stopped being fun. The PS2 controls and camera are not that good, and the mechanics are not that tight, making it too difficulty and not satisfactory to play at all. The PS2 versions of the early games have clearly better graphics and a more detailed and open castle (even though I don't like the cartoony look that much, and some stuff like the aztec temple challenge seem to be completely out of place), but the PC versions are more balanced and tell the story better, even if they lack content.

I remember not being able to beat this game as a kid. Not because I didn't understand what to do, but rather because my copy actually bugged out as a kid. There's a level in a forest where you're just supposed to walk forwards to an area where a dragon spawns and clears the path. However, as a kid, something on my save file prevented this from happening. I've seen modern gameplay of this level and confirmed I didn't do anything wrong, it just wouldn't trigger for me, even after 7 reboots of the PS2. I eventually just gave up since I couldn't progress.
