That's crazy to learn that the ps2 version of the game has an entire open world for the Hogwarts grounds. Never knew that was a thing growing up on the Gamecube version where you just teleport to the different areas of the map instead of being able to actually explore. At least they had it in Prisoner of Azkaban on Gamecube.

Great review! The Xbox version actually has much better graphics, it's been a while since I've played through it but off of my memory expelliarmus looks a lot better on the Xbox (as it becomes a shield) and so does diffendo. Incendio when charged fires in a spiral and it's purple and Lumos shines down on the floor like a torch. Locomotormortis also has an extra particle effect around your legs and I feel as though there are more changes than just that, in lighting, textured and maybe game mechanics. I'd say it's worth giving it a go if you can, it's pretty hard to obtain, but not as hard as the first one I think. The first one has actually been remade for the second gen consoles after this game was made, and it's actually based on this game and it's very good and definitely worth a go, if you haven't played it back then, you're in for a treat.

This is my opinion about some of this first three games. PC Trilogy: HP2 > HP1 > HP3 PS2/Xbox/GC Trilogy: HP3 > HP2 > HP1 RPG Trilogy: HP1 (GBC) = HP2 (GBC) > HP3 (GBA)

I love how the console versions of the first three games are just obvious Zelda rip-offs gameplay wise. I mean think about it. Getting spells in puzzle filled dungeons, the spells help you throughout the rest of the dungeon, a shit ton of collectibles. I LOVED this game on the GameCube. I can say that the version I played did not have an army of Prefects all over the place. They were in a few locations, but for the most part you could wander about at night with no real issue. I'm one of those people who 100% this game. I used to go through all the desks collecting beans with each day cycle and flying about Hogwarts collecting more beans. I can still remember being so annoyed on my first playthrough and realizing I had missed out on about five or so of the wizard cards. I scoured the game on the subsequent playthrough.

The reason I love the first 3 Harry Potter games is because of the differences among the platforms. The Chamber PC game is awesome, but the PS2/GameCube/Xbox IMO is far better. PS1 version is so nostalgic, and also there's GBA and GBC versions. It's hard to get used to playing so different games. It was really fun that time

I have fond memories of playing this game as a child. I loved the missions during the day (especially degnoming, for some reason), but I hated the night missions so much. Mainly because of the music cues when the prefects catch you sneaking around. It terrified me, so I'd always get my mum or my dad to do the sneaking parts for me.
@patrikvavro16112 жыл бұрын
12:27 you’re supposed to use the stink pellets that you buy at Fred and George’s shop to stun the prefects, it’s actually really easy sneaking past them when you use the pellets. You can also use the yellow balloons to help you sneak around but from what I remember, I never used those.

Played the PS2 version. The night sneaking sections were funny because, if a prefect saw you and cast Locomotomortis, you can deflect it back onto him using Expelliarmus if I recall correctly. One of the spells lets you do it. Instead of his arms waving around like yours do, the prefect is hit with his spell and just stops dead in his tracks with his arms to his side. Like he just stopped caring

PS2 version is better cause you can explore all of Hogwarts Grounds as opposed to having it teleport you to your location depending on the trail you're taking. Yes the GameCube, PS2 and Xbox Console Harry Potter games are awesome ! The GameCube and Xbox version has better looking Graphical Lighting then PS2 but you can only explore outside areas while on a broom and once you leave the castle you get loading zones to the next areas when walking on the road and you can only land the broom in specific areas that the game lets you walk on. With PS2 they took advantage of it having more memory to make the entire outside grounds walkable on foot while on Xbox and GameCube they took advantage of the Game Cube's and Xbox superior Graphical Processing

Basically the PS2 version is technically better, although the graphical fidelity on PS2 version suffers in comparison to the GC and Xbox versions. Also the frame rate on the GC and Xbox versions are 60FPS whereas the PS2 version is locked to 30FPS due to optimisation issues. The game could certainly run on PS2 at 60FPS but the code just wasn't very well optimised for it.

This video is already 3 years old, but I'm going through all of your Harry Potter videos, and I haven't seen you play the PS2 version of Philosopher's Stone, which actually was released after Chamber of Secrets, during the hiatus they took for the third movie. I have played some of it (PS2 Philosopher's Stone, that is), and it seems to be almost the same as this game, only with different plot points and spell challenges, but the same mechanics (sneaking, learning spells by reading, a more open castle, limited amount of beans you can carry...), but the rest is 1:1 CoS. Couldn't finish because it stopped being fun. The PS2 controls and camera are not that good, and the mechanics are not that tight, making it too difficulty and not satisfactory to play at all. The PS2 versions of the early games have clearly better graphics and a more detailed and open castle (even though I don't like the cartoony look that much, and some stuff like the aztec temple challenge seem to be completely out of place), but the PC versions are more balanced and tell the story better, even if they lack content.
@theblankking19662 жыл бұрын
So I'm a little late to this but I have actually played the original trilogy of Harry Potter PS2 games (as well as the PC, of course) so here's my take on that. Sorcerer's Stone PS2: Much more simple than Chamber of Secrets, but also a ton more forgiving with a heavier emphasis on exploring than the constant stealth and tennis matches of 2. Unrefined in a few areas and getting all the wizard cards can be a little too easy, but I personally find it a much more enjoyable experience than PS2 Chamber of Secrets. Prisoner of Azkaban PS2: Remember when you wanted to change characters at will in the PC game? Azkaban PS2 lets you actually do that, and not just that, but each character has their own small but open set of spells and personal skills they can perform. There's much more to do in Azkaban than in the previous two, but there's also far less spell challenges meaning the weird and wacky gauntlets you got to do in all the previous games are heavily reduced. Out of the 3 I feel like Chamber of Secrets is the worst entrée purely on how unforgiving it is and how much stealth it forces you to do. As for which is the best, I have a hard time deciding. Even though Azkaban does more stuff, the fantastical and crazy environments from Sorcerer's Stone puts it on par. If you can I'd highly recommend trying both and at least making a video on Azkaban for PS2 since that one has a lot more to talk about.
