I really value your content, but there are a few important details that seem weren't mentioned, and I apologize if I missed them in the video. - The N5105 only has 8 PCIe Gen3 lanes per Intel specs, and this results in only Gen3 x1 per M2 slot here, less than 25% speed/bandwidth per slot for even average NVMe drives (*the remaining four lanes are used elsewhere). - The 2.5g LAN speed/bandwidth works out to only 25% of the USB-C 3.2 port at 10g, which makes this device a better USB DAS than an actual network NAS. - The MSRP was supposed to be $279 USD, but now it's closer to $400 on multiple online vendors, completely altering the supposed value proposition. It is a very interesting device, and it is low-power, but when you essentially need to run all four M2's in a single pool to get the full speed of a single drive (and only via USB-C), it is disengenuous to be advertised as a "fast" flash storage "NAS". As a storage device it would be more accurately described as a high-capacity, multi-bay USB enclosure at best (albeit with a CPU & RAM), and far too expensive at $400 for what it actually is.

The video is awesome. I found that when I want HA I have to switch the DELL controller from raid 5 to JBOD to make it disk by disk and then the OSD goes? Am I saying this correctly? No raid and same disks versus.

I notice most every video I see has Samsung Dex being used on a television or monitor. I use it on Windows 11. There's the Samsung Dex app for Windows and with that, I can use my phone as if it's not running anything, use Windows 11 as if it's not running anything and then there's a seperate window for the Dex OS that can be full screen or not. I did get a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard strictly for using Dex on a television, but I prefer using Dex on my PC because the OS is BEAUTIFUL. It's like a ChromeOS or something and it can run all the apps. You can run KZbin on your PC, do work on Dex (or vice versa) and then use your phone as if it isn't even running Dex because it's powerful enough. This is on an S10+ with the Snapdragon 855 (8 cores)/8GB RAM and it has UFS 2.1 which can read/write extremely fast. Just me?

Thank you for this video. I have an existing Proxmox environment and recently purchased the Lincstation N1 which now also runs Proxmox so I can migrate my existing VM's over to it. However, I thought I would try and have my cake and eat it by building a VM that can use the inbuilt Unraid disk to use this as a NAS. Why? Because why not. 🙂 It took some time to work out how to add the disk and get it to be seen to boot with UEFI etc. All sorted now, but unfortunately it fails to complete the boot process, and fails on 'Generic Explorer Mouse not found'. It is a shame not to be able to utilise the Unraid license that is with the device, still it was an interesting experiment. Have you tried this out at all?

I have been setting this for transmission to download torrents to my truenas so that jellyfin can read from an NFS share... took me 2 weeks and never made everything work.. Installed windows server 2025 and set it all up in 5 minutes all working just a couple of clicks.. This is way way way too complicated for such a simple thing to do... Today i decided to remove proxmox and all this complexity as everything is done in server 2025 in minutes no need to edit any configs and even Hyper V vms work out of the box with dietpi and all.. Really feel this complexity is not really needed to set something up like this. But thanks for making this videos and tutorials! It was fun learning but who ever sets this and uses it for 6 months and comes back to make changes you are basicly dead you will have a headacke to repair / change forgeting commands etc. In server 2025 you just make a folder pop your media in and you are DONE.

What if node 1 fails, do you then have the zfs pool available on node 2 and 3 to get the replicated disks and spin up the migrated vm's/containers?
@MRPtech
@MRPtech 2 күн бұрын
Yes. for example. Node 1 contains VM101. that vm gets replicated to node 2 and 3. If node 1 dies, Proxmox HA detects dead node and recreates VM inside node 2 or 3 with the drive that is replicated in there. If you replicate drives from node 1 to node 2 every 5 min and VM starts on node 2 - that vm will use drive that was replicated at that time stamp. VM on node 2 = what VM had on node 1 - 5 min.

Please make sure you read the proxmox firewall documentation. Many of these firewall rules are already default at the datacenter level, to the pve hosts to prevent lockout, such as ssh, gui, spice, vnc, etc. Also, the firewall defaults of "drop" is for new traffic. What isn't shown in the GUI is that inbound "related" traffic is allowed, as long as conntrack module is enabled. That means that you do NOT need specific rules for many of the things you demonstrated like DNS, it will be handled automatically.

From the Proxmox documentation: If you enable the firewall, traffic to all hosts is blocked by default. Only exceptions is WebGUI(8006) and ssh(22) from your local network. In other words, as long as you're in the same local network as the hosts, enabling the firewall without any rules defined will NOT block you out from the Proxmox hosts. You still will be able to manage them via the GUI and SSH.

@32:45 you add a rule to ACCEPT anything from source virtual-net to destination ANY. This rule makes the last rule (line 4, DROP anything with destination local-net) completely useless. You should have added a destination virtual-net to your new rule to limit the scope. Your firewall on local-net (PVE net) only accept local-net in and out so this network is protected, but any other network in your proxmox become accessible by virtual-net if not well protected.

Great video! Very easy to follow along. Fellow users... are you having trouble connecting to your proxmox server's GUI after a reboot? It's possibly your new tailscale container is not running! I double checked the video, and perhaps I missed it, but it does not mention to change the containers setting to "Start at boot". So please do this step! To save you the hours I spent trying to figureout what my issue was, here's my solution. You'll need access to the physical machine. Login as root. Type "pct list" to get your list of containers ("qm list" lists VMs) - This lists your containers IDs, Status, and Name. Type "pct start VMID" (eg. pct start 101) - This still start the container. You should now be able to connect to the WebGUI.

Ive watched a lot of video's on this keyboard, and your the first one who has a problem with getting the 3 Function keys to work. If you watch the others, you surely have to understand they work, so... maybe you have a defective keyboard? And watching you repeatedly say you can't get certain keys to work and how it irritates you... your video is irritating me.

Watching this, I have realised that I am misunderstanding something about resource distribution in a hyper-visor. How do you allocate 4 CPU cores to 5 virtual machines? *Edit: I've also just realised your Windows VM has 4 cores...how??
@MRPtech
@MRPtech 17 күн бұрын
When you assign 4 cores to a VM is doesn't mean that all 4 cores will be used 100% 24/7 by that VM. Adding 4 cores to VM means that - if VM needs to do heavy workload - it only allowed to maximum upto 4 cores. You can allocate 4 cores to all the VMs if you want and everything will work unless all VMs will start heavy workload at the same time. And you need to consider VM idle CPU usage. If VM using 25% of 4 Cores while idle. you technically can allocate 4 VMs with 4 Cores which will make 25%+25%+25%+25%. all 4 VMs will share 4 cores while idling - if one of them will start workload, other 3 might end up being a bit sluggish to run. Same principal you can use for RAM in some extend.
