Teams have been looking for a franchise qb for over 30 years lol, I would have drafted Penix and JJ and had them both sitting behind Cousins🤣 we'll work on defense next year lol and ya'll can tell me I made a bad decision drafting Penix and JJ but I'm not getting fired over a qb, I'm with Raheem Morris on this one not like Kirk Cousins going to win a championship coming off a torn achilles with a mediocre defense.

People have to take in account why his numbers were subdued. Texas had an NFL starting caliber RB,TE,WR in the same starting lineup as Worthy. Some of those routes were nasty. Marquise Brown & Xavier Worthy will keep safeties 15yds+ back.

There is good and bad in every prospect. None of them are perfect. They all make mistakes. Maye will work hard to correct his. He chose to stay in Carolina despite Bama and other NIL offers. His loyalty will pay off

Perfectly said. Was it dumb to sign a qb for 4 years to draft one? Yes but Penix is good and everyone is acting like they traded their first for a 7th rounder in 25 years.

Blocking as a WR in the NFL doesn't win anything. WR's aren't paid to block in the league.

Lots of Aaron Rodgers and Mahomes in there. Undeniable upside, here's to hoping his coaching staff doesn't let him down and that he has the work ethic to make it in the NFL

Ain't nothing stupid about getting your future QB at least 2 years early. All that means is he will be ready to go when his time comes. Look at the dynamics of it, it was a strategic move.

The HC/play caller to maximize him? Andy Reid. The GM who called his name (heck even trading up for it) on day 1? Brett Veach. The QB throwing him the rock who knows all too well on working with speedsters? Patrick Mahomes. Life is unfair.

Good analysis. He is still young however. Clearly not on the level of Drake Maye with his ability to change his throws effortlessly. There have still been Quarterbacks in the NFL do well who are much worse than McCarthy. I like his competitiveness. He needs to develop or have an offensed designed around him as it stands. Michigan didn't necessarily show all he can do either. His throws come up short when is trying to rifle it in there all the time. He doesn't have the arm strength. It's not effortless like Maye, Rodgers, Brady etc. Brady likes him though, but what do you expect him to say. Brady had more touch and would stretch his arm out. It could be age or something they can develop, or he will always be that and end up with noodle arm where throws just die out like a quail. Elway had that problem, but his arm was so strong it was the opposite and the ball would come out like a wounded duck early on under pressure. McCarthy has more issues than that and feel for the game. His throws he overthrows and underthrows and lacks great arm strength.

I have shut off the loxal media for good in Boston. Not that I ever agreed with them. Quite the opposite. But Maye was clear pick to me. Even with the warts.

At the high school level this is only applicable in a very reduced form because at that level ingesting such is difficult. Particularly with limited practice time and with school being the primary focus. We hope…

Actually, this video misses what is beginning to be used and was invented by Belichick; Area Read Zone. It’s concept is landmark zone but it’s principles are pattern read. I’ve begun to use it in high school in California. This is, generally, vacating a zone to a route shared or uncovered in seams or holes in another zone. In other words; if a defender is assigned to the flat but no flat route appears, then the underneath defender slides to or even jumps the nearest route. The ‘over coverage’ is purely landmark on verticals (a corner has the ‘go’ or ‘flag’ route, the safety(ies) have post or deep seams). This is a basic and simplistic description but in essence it’s a combo or deep landmark and a variation of pattern read underneath.

It's funny that everyone brings up his age, because the media has pounded this narrative. It's not like every 21-24 year old QB goes on to play for the same franchise for 10-15 years years. His age could be an advantage.

The Falcons took a gamble signing Kirk with a torn Aquilles, perhaps that recovery isn't as good as they thought and went for a QB that could be starting in a year. Penix will have some time to develop and improve his mechanics, but more than 2 years could too much time sitting

The Falcons created a problem in the locker room---we'll see how smart it is roster wise but I'm banking on "not very". They had their pick of any of the d-lineman and pass rushers (maybe even an offensive tackle which is something they definitely needed over a quarterback). I'm sure when Kirk Cousins is getting blasted off the edge and Kaleb McGary and Jacob Matthews are getting abused they'll be glad they passed up an offensive tackle! Grady Jarrett's been there since 2015--your telling me the Falcons couldn't have used Latu, Murphy, or Dallas Turner (all would have been available at #8)? If any of those 3 make any Pro Bowls or produce like the should (my money's on Murphy or Turner) than that'll just be more justification for cleaning house and firing Fontenot and Morris. This all presuming Penix doesn't get on the field---even if he DOES the Falcons are still weak and those needs were either defensive or offensive tackle...or pass rush. Kind of a luxury pick that should have been addressed later (if they wanted to take a hot at a quarterback to groom they could have got one later) when it really wasn't called for....but we'll see!

Michigan's run game and excellent o-line made JJ's job easier than it otherwise would have been. But he was a good player and improved year over year. I think he's coachable and went to a good spot in Minnesota. I'd give him a 65% chance of growing into a franchise guy. Worth a first round pick. Stated as a die-hard OSU fan and alum.
