This is an extra sprue in a set with additional options, whether it’s weapon options that weren’t in the original kit or for space marines you can take the standard unit and use these upgrade sprues to change the shoulder pads, heads and weapons for your chosen chapter’s iconography.

No such thing as a stupid question :) While allying used to be more of a thing back in earlier editions of Warhammer 40k, unfortunately it's very much reduced these days. That being said, the closest you'll have for humans would be the new Imperial Agents codex that will be out very soon. This includes a variety of ways to build that include deathwatch marines, grey knigths, sisters, inquistors, and imperial forces. While typically these were used more for allying into other imperium armies in the past, you can build a force from this if you'd like to. I think it comes out next weekend (24th) so worth taking a look through that at a local GW store as they'll have an open copy no doubt.

To be fair I think a fair number of 40K players jumped across for the same reason when 4th launched. I certainly did, plus the models looked incredible! Those are 3 great factions and I guess it depends on which you think look the coolest. Worst case and you still can’t decide, try a painting up a spearhead box as if you can’t see painting up an army of it, you’ll still have a great game format to be able to play!

I feel for you trying to collect Warhammer down under. There are ways to make it cheaper with online local game stores, possible international shipping and the second hand market at least. Do you have one faction that really speak to you? Where you really like the models the most?

The tau honestly are my favourite so far I just love the look of the mechs and I’ve started reading some lore and the farsight enclave seem super badass so I think that’s where I’m headed. I’m gonna order a smaller kit first and dabble with the painting before I fully commit myself.

100% it’s incredible value for money and if you aren’t after all of the parts from it - there are plenty of bits separated on the secondary market at really good prices too. (Like the fire and jade book and accessories if you wanted just that).

There is a lot of amazing lore in the 40K universe so you’ll have plenty to get your teeth stuck into! Those are 3 really cool armies, although even with the trim I’m a sucker for Thousand Sons. Magnus is just too cool! (He definitely didn’t do anything wrong)

@@TheCommandPhase Not entirely sure. I was thinking that since I am trying to paint my Immortals in the same style as those in Twice Dead King, I might get a Tachyon Arrow Overlord and try to make an Oltyx Overlord.

I’d probably put strategy a lot higher than luck in 40K. Yes dice rolls and card draws for secondaries could well go for and against you in the game. But proper army construction plays a big role and the vast majority of games will be won and lost in army deployment, movement and decision making. At least in my experience playing 40K. If I had to give a % - probably at least 75-25% in terms of strategy/skill over luck

I’m glad the video was able to help you out! Both are really great armies there and great for helping you get into the hobby and learn all of the different aspects - hope you have a great time with whichever you end up picking!

So the first question would be which of these armies do you think look the coolest/have the best looking models you’d like to build, paint and play with? This honestly would be the main factor in choosing. In terms of the armies you have there, you could use a Dark Angels colour scheme to play as any of the space marine detachments if you wanted to as they aren’t locked behind a colour scheme. Deathwatch might be worth a little bit of a wait only as they might be getting rolled into the new Imperial Agents codex that’s coming out in the next few weeks, so would change up how you would collect that army. As for Chaos Space Marines, like Space Marines have a lot of cool options to choose from, some very thematic detachments and cool models. Tend to be more melee focussed than traditional Space Marines if you think you’d prefer that element of the game. I’d look to grab a box of models from one of the factions (potentially a kill team so you have another game to be able to play while you grow your force) and see if you can see yourself making a full army of those. If so then you’ve found the right army for you, else move onto the next one until you have. But rule of cool will always trump everything else in this game. Hopefully that was of some help and best of luck in choosing!

@@TheCommandPhase I'll start off by saying I am very much looking forward to getting some more games in soon!...as, admittedly, yesterday, we were going in totally blind, figuring it all out as we went, rummaging through books, cards and the app constantly...so the first game took *ages*, and we only got halfway through the second game before we called it, as it was getting too late...although we were starting to get the hang of it, and things were going a lot more smoothly by that point. (Again, I really wish I'd watched this video earlier!😅) ...but, regardless of all our bumbling user-error, it still felt like a great, tight, fun game...nicely small, short, and simple, but still with a satisfying amount of strategy, depth, and variation...the enhancements and regiment abilities let you mix things up a little bit, despite the set units...and the twist and battle tactic cards seem like they can really add a lot to the game. I played Sons of Behemat vs Slaves to Darkness first...I played too defensively in the first half (didn't know objectives were sticky), and then just rolled terribly in the second half...also chaos knights seem like a pretty mean unit! ...then 2 rounds of Maggotkin of Nurgle vs the new Skaven...shame this one got cut short, it felt like there was a lot of interesting stuff still yet to happen!...the skaven seemed to have a lot of fun, thematic gimmicks, and I was enjoying how maggotkin seemed to be going too, I was very happy with my blightkings specifically!

Honestly this is a format you could just play by itself without ever needing to build a 2000 point army if you didn’t want to. Lots of fun and nuance to it as well, all while learning the core rules of the game. And the perfect excuse to try out a variety of factions to find one you click with. Plus if they support it enough it’ll be a lot of fun for ages to come. If you do try it out, I really do hope you enjoy it 👍
