Instructions unclear I bought the adeptus custodes combat patrol and battleforce box, now I have 9 bikes. Anyways, I truly do agree with this ranking of combat patrols, but if you want to start custodes I'd recommend the battleforce box as I'd say it has the superior points value and is just better. I'm not a combat patrol player so I may be biased but that's what I think.
@TheCommandPhase3 күн бұрын
Apologies at the time of recording the Battleforce available was Watchers of the Gate rather than the new one that came with the 10th edition codex. That being said the bikes have just had a bit of a glow up so may well start to make a splash. You can always sell off extra bikes on the secondary market to recoup some of the money 👍

Nah! Go Aeldari. The only problem I see for them these days is the fact that the play area has shrunk making it impossible to flank with 1000 pts and up. They are varied, specialised, teach you co-ordination, and how to mitigate your risks. Further, your transport can also sport seriously scary weaponry.

I guess it depends which models you like the look of the most - both are very psychic and ranged focussed, with the thousand sons being a little more resilient in marine bodies. That being said the Aeldari will be getting their new codex very soon with some really nice new models added to range. I’m sure you’d have a great time with either, but I’d strongly suggest picking the one you like the look of the models the most.

I'm thinking about getting into tabletop after falling in love with the universe from Space Marine 2. It's real decision paralysis with so many cool looking factions. I'm basically between World Eaters and Space Marines. Space Marines feel like the more logical choice because I can tailor an army to any playstyle but World Eaters have such a cool aesthetic and lore.
@TheCommandPhase15 күн бұрын
So you could if you wanted to paint up your space marines as pre-heresy world eaters and think of them as some that remained loyal if you wanted to have the versatility of the Space Marine force. That being said, if you love the world eaters models (which should get a 2nd wave of models in this edition with their codex) then go for them. I’m sure you’d have a great time with either of them - so I’d definitely suggest the army with the models you like the look of the most.

I’m over fifty now and wish I could get into this. Not to play, just buying and painting the armies. But money isn’t my friend these days. So I watch these videos to satisfy myself… slightly. 😢
@TheCommandPhase15 күн бұрын
I mean if you start off slowly and just do a unit or character at a time from start to finish I’m sure it wouldn’t be too bad, compared to buying a huge quantity of models in one go. That and using the second hand market to get models is a great way to save money. If you have a games workshop near you, they often do free sessions to learn to build and paint models to try out and see if you enjoy it.

I'm thinking of buying the Grey Knights combat patrol, they look cool, but I fear that they might be difficult to learn how to play
@TheCommandPhase15 күн бұрын
Honestly I wouldn’t worry too much about that. Their combat patrol is fantastic value for money and as you really enjoy the force you’ll find it easier to learn the rules than one you are indifferent about. They’re pretty resilient too so little mistakes as you learn won’t get punished too hard. Hope that helps 👍

@TheCommandPhase19 күн бұрын
To be fair there are a lot of fantastic paint schemes for the tau so if you didn’t want to stick to the white you don’t need to. Infernal brush did a great video on it if you wanted to take a look. The Aeldari are great and they’ll be getting their codex and some nice new models early next year so a great time to pick them up too. I’d honestly pick whichever you prefer the look of the models of the most. Rule of cool always wins 👍

Gonna ask here as well, since at this point I'm probably gonna e-mail GW them selves for clarification. Scouts X with a Dedicated Transport. I put a Scout squad (Scouts 6") in to an Impulsor (M 12"). So how far can the Impulsor move? Does it move up to 6" or 12"? This is still one of the most confusing things in the Core rules for me. Cause the way it's worded is very vague. The part about ending a move more than 9" from any opposing unit makes me assume that it can move up to it's M stat, being 12". Even on small game mode maps like Kill team or Combat patrol (30x44), you would still end up 12" in and 9" away in most cases. But, again, the thing is so vaguely worded, that I never try doing this, just to avoid hour long disputes about core rules. . .
@TheCommandPhase20 күн бұрын
In your example, the scout move is still limited to the amount of distance from the scout squad’s specific scout rule even if they are in a dedicated transport that has a movement characteristic that technically moves further. If the transport also had its own scout move distance that was further I you’d then take the larger value. As the scout move is a different type of movement (pre-game) to that you’d do in your movement phase, it’s separate to the move characteristic on the datasheet of the units. Hope that helps clarify it.
@EugeneFist20 күн бұрын
@@TheCommandPhase Yes, thank you. I thought as much, "Scout" being a specific unit ability and not a keyword.

I realize this video is old but I found it really helpful both in estimating the rough cost globally of "an army" but also narrowing down what I'd like to be looking at for myself in the Grey Knights that I have selected as my chapter. When you made this video you arrived at £389.00, a direct exchange to US dollars at the time it was made would have been around $493.00. Looking at the composition of the army you covered for the Grey Knights today (using no substitutions) I arrive at a cost in US of roughly $585.75, the bulk of the difference seeming to be the asymmetrical uptick in price for Kaldor Draigo, the Redeemer, Stormraven and Callidus Assassin. When I take the two vehicles out of the equation, I'm at $382.75 for 35 units, or, just under $11 per unit.
@MillDewd14 күн бұрын
All of that to say, I'm not intimidated by the price, but I can already see how this hobby could quickly get out of control.
@A_Traffic_Cone27 күн бұрын
I plan on getting the introductory set for me and a buddy. He already is set on salamanders because he is obsessed with the video game and has looked into lore and stuff. I, on the other hand, know nothing about the game 😅 ive been looking into stuff nonstop and kinda have an idea on which army i want but I was hoping you could give me some insight. The main one i like is adeptus mechanicus. the problems I found with it are 1. They are one of the most expensive 2. They are difficult to paint, and 3. They are extremely difficult to understand and play correctly. The next one i was thinking of are leagues of votaan. I took a couple quizzes to kinda help me figure out what I want and I got this the most, which made me grow slightly attached to them ngl. The main issue for these i believe is that they are new and don't have have much to work with. Looking at what I've read and watched, they kinda just seem like a weaker space marine. Lastly is dark angels. I don't know much about them ngl. And as i am writing this i completely forgot how they play lol. I should also note that i know someone with a resin printer who does print models, So price shouldn't be too big of a problem (hopefully🤞)
@TheCommandPhase26 күн бұрын
So what I will say to start with is that I would pick the army you like the models the most for as this will keep the enthusiasm to learn both the modelling and gaming side of things a lot easier than ones you aren’t quite as keen on. Each of the factions are fairly well balanced these days so not too much to worry about there. If you like the Ad Mech, I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out a way that works for you to build/play them. They may be a little tougher to build/paint than space marines but I use that as a benchmark of ease. Gameplay wise, you’ll be surprised how quickly you can pick things up through playing. Votann are a great army too - granted I’m a little biased as I collect them. While they may not have the biggest range (still plenty to make a good army), they’re all new models so look fantastic and they should be getting a wave 2 of models soon, I’m hoping for sometime next year with their codex. They certainly aren’t weaker than space marines, just a slightly different (higher toughness, less wounds) profile overall with different strengths and weaknesses. They are a fantastic shooting army, with some nice melee options in the Hearthykyn and Berserkers. Plus use transports a lot too to make up for their slightly slower movement. Dark Angels wise, again another really good army. Utilising a lot of the space marines book with specialist units they have access to in their codex. Deathwing have had a lot more love recently with new models, compared to their ravenwing counterparts. They’re a slightly tougher army than typical marines again, plus their new sculpts look great. Like I said at the start of the message, I’d honestly pick whichever you like the look of the most over everything else. There are cheaper ways to pick up models to make things more budget friendly so try not to think about that aspect if you can. Hope that was some help!

@TheCommandPhase26 күн бұрын
Unfortunately you can’t mix chapters with their own book/indexes with each other I’m afraid. That being said, if you played Blood Angels or Space wolves, bar a few units that you can’t take (which are explained in their codex supplement/index) you can take a lot of the generic (non chapter specific) units from the Space Marines codex. Hope that helps 👍
