9:39 I haven't read the 540 comments and I might be 4 years or so late BUT just had to say, the metal pipe fits on either air in / exhaust out so just get another metal bendy pipe.

I'd advise everyone out there not to touch a truma diesel heater with a barge pole. Ours is only 4 years old, minimum usage and has already cost us £400 in repairs and still not working correctly. I'm going to replace it with a Chinese diesel heater and carry a spare in case of total failure. That's under £200 for two heaters that'll work better than the pile of junk we have. Truma doesn't care about your problems they just want your cash. If you need hot water that bad, either boil a pan or go to a motorway stop or campsite for a shower. The 2 grand price tag doesn't justify hot water.

thanks for the video, just about to install mine as NY winter kicks in. Just one question (I know the video is old so perhaps this will go unnoticed) what is the reasoning for the nylon fuel line inside the rubber automotive line? To me this seems counter-intuitive. I understand the origonal fuel line with the kit may be able to kink or suck in with pressure and cause a blockage but the rubber line won't do this. I can't seem to see a reason for using the thinner hard nylon line, unless it is to help the pump keep up pressure ? Perhaps I missed something watching through the first time.

Hi, are you still alive? Although these don't produce carbon monoxide, they produce vast amounts of carbon dioxide. Not suitable for small enclosed spaces or even small invented rooms. Humans need oxygen in the air they breathe. Not being piosioned is no consolation when you suffocate in your sleep, it's the same kind of dead.

Wrong about that hard fuel line lol . Why do fuel injection cars without return use rubber lines why do Honda with single feed lines use a damber ? Sound want it to tick louder put hard line just put metal lines so it sounds like a hammer hitting the side.

Is 45° better then just plain vertically? I bought a standalone unit (with 5L Diesel Tank, Pump and Controller all in one box) and there it is almost vertically mounted. They used the green rubber pipe ofc, change it to the hardline nylon. And does anyone know if there are any downsides (other then mayve noise) if I shorten the exhaust pipe?

It will 100% work perfectly in Siberia, Alaska or at sea in cold parts of the world, then you wouldn't even have to turn it off all day long. All other cases, especially during summer time - failure.

Ugh comments about fire safety are so annoying. Obviously OBVIOUSLY if you have a big dog bouncing around, small children, or your vehicle is unstable then its probably not a good idea. I would hope these considerations are obvious to all watching 🙄 IF not, just stay home under the duvet the rest of your life. Plainly you need somewhere safe to place your ethanol fire and to store the fuel.

I will not be using the tank, I will T it into the fuel line of the van itself. No messy smelly diesel inside my van.

You can have the output from the heat exchanger go to the place your storing your hot water tank so it keeps the water warmer for longer and helps heat it faster 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Great video Hugh! However as others mention, you only need to install the plates on doors which have a key. My Ducato only has one keyed door handle, the drivers door, so some reduced fitting time ahead!

After some years, what's your experience with the foam insulation? Have you ever been in strong sun/heat situations? I am pondering on this type but worried it may struggle if I stand in a full sun in spain... Thoughts?

I'm in the process of installing the Truma D4E. The Cowl outside is now just a small circular one, like the gas type. Much easier to install. There is no pick up connector for the Tank sender unit though. It's an extra they want you to buy at a silly price. Nice video Hugh, very helpful. Thank you. or is that Thank Hugh 😜

Reality check! Cooking exclusively with ANYTHING solar powered during winter in the UK is UNUSTAINABLE - UNLESS you have have a MASSIVE amount of solar on board (more than most vans can carry). Just saying! Thanks for all your great videos Hugh!
