Thanks mate. I was a little concerned about using so much force, but it makes sense to use even pressure on the front Carbies. Also, I'll put the alloy airbox base back on, to reinforce them, as I don't want to damage linkages or brackets, in between the front and rear Carbies.

I know I'm a bit late but I found one of these bikes that had been in storage for a long time but still in great condition. I need to find a gas tank though and I was wondering what you ended up putting on it and how the fit was. I want to avoid having to modify the frame mounts if I can but I will if I have to. Not super hopeful I'll get a reply but I would like to find something sooner than later

I'm late for reply as well, but I actually used the original tank with band-aid fixes. JB-Weld on the exterior (this alone will still leak) and Red Kote sealer on the inside. It seemed to hold fine. Honestly though the real fix is going on ebay and buying a tank for about $150. No modifications needed that way. I sold the bike a few years ago, but it was probably $300 in ebay parts from being a solid machine.

How do you get those 2 knobs off to the right of the choke ??? They don't have screws in the center

Are you referring to the red and white plastic adjustment knobs? They just pull off. Liable to brake being almost 60 year old plastic, but it's just pressed on there and they pull off.

JUST FYI I went to v4dreams after I watched this just to see what he had to say and since I have pliable boots still, I greased them up, popped in the front (opposite of this vid) and with a screwdriver helping with the backs, sob! they popped right on! just want to pass that along. p.o. Wow, I didn't think you'd get away with putting that much weight on the carb bodies ! My mecano warmed the boots up in an oven, put red brake grease on the up and down lips and the carb bodies slipped right on.

It does indeed suck, ive stood on top of mine as well as used ratchet straps to no luck. I had em off about 8 years ago and poped them back in with not much drama so im thinking its just the rubber boots that have turned hard.

Do u need to add a mix in the fuel of a 89 vfr 750 to run on leaded feul
@AnagramForCraig
@AnagramForCraig 7 жыл бұрын
I have run it on standard 87 octane with 10% ethanol and it runs fine, but the carburetors do get gummed up after sitting. If you wanted to run non-oxy 90 or 91 that would be a good option. No need to worry about leaded fuel.

Laverne Williams if the motor has been sitting a while, it would certainly be a good idea to clean the carburetor. Gas can go bad and clog up the passageways inside the carburetor meaning the engine won't get enough fuel.

I exact same issue as you had. Lever stuck to on. It took considerable effort to get the spline out. It wasn't hammering out very well so instead I put the lever back on and gently tapped it around the brake pad about 10 revolutions. Gave it another pop with the rubber mallet and out it went =) Great vid. Was exactly what I was needing to see. Cheers! :)

@AnagramForCraig
@AnagramForCraig 8 жыл бұрын
Oh man, I had to have painted it about 9 years ago I don't exactly remember. It was a marine/aluminum paint from a store we have in Minnesota called Mills Fleet Farm. If I remember, I will look in my garage to see if we still have one of the old paint cans, or next time I'm at the store I can see if I recognize it there. It held up pretty darn well and looks pretty nice.

Hi. I have a 1981 Yamaha Exciter. I just started replacing the motor. When I took it off I found a plastic bushing on the garage floor. It was extremely dirty with oil and dirt caked on very thickly. Do you know where this bushing came from? I have no idea where it goes. Many thanks, Byram

Hi, you could try heating the area up with a propane torch. The heat could burn up whatever rust etc. is built up in there plus the expanding and contracting of the metal will move things around where the surfaces meet up. You may have to polish up the aluminum again afterwards because of discoloration.

Yea , I like the sound of that muffler. Love my little 1980 sr250, so reliable , could use more power and more top speed but around town is perfect. I was able to find any same year/model in San Francisco for $400. Had a clean title and only 4k miles. I swapped out the best parts on my salvaged title bike and made one pretty nice complete bike... Good luck with your project, have fun

Put your finge over the needle valve and blow compressed air through the fuel inlet and usually it will blow the needle valve out. This keeps from damaging the jet using pliers to pullit out

Ploughing the same furrow, not coming up with anything original..... Best thing he's done for years is his book.It was interesting hearing him talk about life with the Cure & post Cure at his book signing.although he made great pains to say it was a memoir, thus not having to reveal much other than a few minor anecdotes. I'd love a real & honest run down of the Cure tours over the years. Still ,Lol says he's happy now so good luck to him & his family.....

Thats a bit unfair. Levinhurst has their own sound, and though connections are inevitable, its hardly a bandwagon of nostalgia. And I think the book is genuinely a reconciliation with the past...I dont think it would be easy for them to describe the Picture tour or the 1982 tour, which are the most interesting to hear, though. "Never Enough", the biography, offers some insight in my fav era (81-84). Perhaps Lol has exorcised his demons more efficiently than Robert. That last Cure tour was quite dark. I think a very interesting part of the book is the band's political roots and leanings in the late 70s.
