Thank you so much for this video. I just bought an 81 sr250 from a friend, and the first thing I knew I needed to do was to clean out the carb, but going into it blindly scared me to death. Your video was spot on and explained things very well. Thank you and please continue to make videos of your work on your bike.

It is so worth it to hear that this even helped one person! I will be resuming work on it very soon so hopefully I'll have more videos in the coming weeks. I am digging the Adventure Time picture!

the crap in the carb is crystallized gas. If gas sits for really long periods it turns to a gel and then completely dries and crystallizes.

I have two of these and what looks like gas residue at least on both of mine was fine rust. Try a magnet on it. These sr250 tanks are nasty rusters and need to be coated inside with a pint of gas tank sealer

Put your finge over the needle valve and blow compressed air through the fuel inlet and usually it will blow the needle valve out. This keeps from damaging the jet using pliers to pullit out

Hey I know its over a year late, but I was looking over this video to reference something today while working on the carb again and saw your comment. I used your trick and it worked like a charm. Thanks!

Thanks for this man, I really appreciate it as I am just starting learning about my new 1980 sr250 I just bought today for $550. Do you know of any forums where we can look for advice on building , engine mods, etc?

Hi. I have a 1981 Yamaha Exciter. I just started replacing the motor. When I took it off I found a plastic bushing on the garage floor. It was extremely dirty with oil and dirt caked on very thickly. Do you know where this bushing came from? I have no idea where it goes. Many thanks, Byram

Can you tell me the correct way to assemble the jet needle assembly? The manual isn't clear at all on how to do it.

What should someone expect to pay for a 1980 yamaha sr250 with 13,000 miles and needs a new carburetor because it doesnt idle?
@AnagramForCraig10 жыл бұрын
Hi there, first off, unless the carb body has damage on it, in most cases, you should not to replace the entire carburetor. A cleaning or a rebuild is almost always the most a carb needs. It looks like you payed $550 and I would say that is a fair price. Running, I would say these could sell for $700 to $1,200 depending on overall condition. The only group of SR250 owners that help each other out to my knowledge is the Yahoo group for the bikes. I don't use it really because Yahoo groups are kind of a strange setup to me, but I think there are some helpful people on there.
