Hi George. Good talking points again and a big thumbs for book recommendations. It was interesting to hear, Andre D. Wagner, when he did 'Walkie Talkie' saying how much he admired Chris Killip. I am having some amusing conversations with photographers at the moment about how people perceive us based on our appearance when we are out taking pictures. Enjoy the rest of your week.

to all the armchair generals and self appointed gate keepers. GET LOST ! the magic of the moment, the emotion is what's all about. what are you going to do, pass up an excellent moment because your too far away? wrong composition?wonky cropping? blurred subject? for me the answer is simple ! NO F************** WAY! grab the image for the magic happens once and fine a wsy to make it communicate the emotion you saw. to say only uncropped images are valid is short sighted and just plain ignorant as to say all images must be composed by the rules of composition and in perfect sharpness again is plain silly the streets allow you to capture magical moments if you are opened up to see them and most of the time they are FLEETING moments that are usually NOT pefect. so shoot and make those magical moments

Also, don't forget to start and stop your paths at different times as you'll find that there will be different hot-spots at different points in time, and on occasion deviate to a side street to change the perspective of what you're shooting. And sometimes, go on that walk with no camera, and just look at the traffic flow. You'll be able to naturally spot the hot-spots with no issue.

Hey i know this is a 1 year old video, but i just started to dabble on photography again (i have the nex5t) and at some point during covid, my camera's stuck in my dorm room out of town for 8 months and i think my kit lens got algae / mold in them. If i want to try to do lika product photography, would any one of you who are also nex5 series owner recommend me what lens to get?

35mm is a dead end focal length… neither wide like. 28 or natural like a 50. In any case get a Ricoh GR1s or v. Better images, better focal length, quieter and smaller.

I use several m43 Lumix cameras and one Olympus. The Lumix cameras, even the really old ones, have excellent bracketing. With the G1/2/3 it can be clunky if you shoot raw+jpeg but is fine if you shoot either raw *or* jpeg. The G5 sensor is a bit better and the buffer is bigger too. Use more modern stuff like the G80/GX8/GX80 and the dynamic range is genuinely excellent and the cameras can handle high speed raw+jpeg bracketing at astonishing rates. You also get multi-axis IBIS *and* OIS if your lens supports OIS. These do cost a bit more even well used. If you're really on a very tight budget the G5 is inexplicably ignored and undervalued and is the one to go for. It's tiny, really nice to use, and produces very nice jpegs & raws. It is also the first Lumix G with an electronic shutter so you can completely avoid shutter shock, which can be fairly bad in older mirrorless cameras. I found the GX1 really poor for shutter shock and switched to an Olympus Pen E-PL5 for a pocketable camera (it does suffer from shutter shock but can be mitigated with its 1/8th second delay setting - fine if you're not shooting action). If you can run to £100-150 for a used m43 body then probably the Olympus E-PL5 is better than the G5 (which you ought to be able to pick up for well under £100).

I bought a Sony Rx1R2 about two months ago, after a year of not having any gear with me due to , well, life. It's been so much fun. It's compact , non intimidating, it packs a (good) full frame sensor and a beast of a lens. i love this tiny battery sucker monster. The reason I comment here is because channels like yours are the ones photographers should be watching, and not the "all about gear" channels we already know. I can read the camera specs online, what I really want is to know if it does what I need it to do. Niche. Thanks! Subscribed.

the 14mm f/2.5 i or ii is a better street lens imo than the 20mm, the 20mm is nice in its rendering, but AF is awful. The 14mm doesnt have as nice rendering but is a reliable lens, in my book no contest. Of course if you dont use AF it doesnt matter too much. Or for more money as others have said the 15mm has nice rendering and has good AF.

I’m a big fan of multi use bags that serve several functions. One of my favorite pieces of luggage for travel was a brand I think called otter Creek or Beaver Creek or something. I think they’re made in Oregon. It was such a great design, it was a rolling suitcase that fit in any overhead band of an airline and even under the seat riding on a train. This rolling suitcase converted into a backpack and then when I would get somewhere and check into my hotel room, it had a small smaller day pack that I could detach from the luggage and use that for day trips. It was in that day pack, but I kept my camera lenses filters and it even had room for my lunch and a bottle of water. Pretty cool to be able to go out for the day in Madrid or Paris or Mexico City or New York City or San Francisco and just shoot photos and not have to go back to my hotel room or having the option of not eating at an expensive café, and I wasn’t having to brag a rolling suitcase around wherever I went. I know most people can’t do it, but if you’re ever going to do around the world trip, I highly suggest that you travel with just two bags one that fits in the overhead and one fits under the seat that way you travel only with carry-on, you never have to check luggage, that can be a disaster if you are doing a short layover and your checked luggage goes missing temporarily. yes, I realize some airlines are now charging for carry-on luggage, but I mean… If you have enough money to do around the world flight you can probably afford baggage fees.

It’s just a good review and I like your philosophy and I’ve always been one of those people to favor lower profile. I’m met a guy many years ago who bought the latest greatest Cannondale mountain bike that had the relief fat tubing. As soon as he bought it, he stripped off the Cannondale logos and put on Schwinn logos. If you ever forgot to lock his bike, he would come back an hour later and there it was, at that time who wanted to Schwinn anyway they were thought of being heavy and clunky . I know someone else who bought a late model Bentley, but he changed the hubcaps hood ornament and other logos to Chrysler so it just looks like someone having a fake Bentley. He didn’t need the prestige. He wanted the performance that the car delivered. Back to preferred camera bags, I always liked the lowe brand because of their thoughtful design and how you could move the padded dividers around, but then I discovered I could just buy padded drawstring bags and put each lech in a different one and label it on the outside and the camera itself with one lens on it doesn’t even need to be padded because it’s inside the bag surrounded by all of these other padded bags. I was need an extra shirt or a jacket when I’m out shooting so I just line the bottom of my backpack with the clothing item that adds extra padding so I don’t damage the camera by dropping it with the bottom hitting the sidewalk or something. Unfortunately I think most people have grown up with brands and logos so if they’re going to spend money on Northface or Patagonia, they want to show that logo to everyone it’s a way of bragging. But I look at it this way, if you live in a poor neighborhood, but you buy a nice new high-tech TV or computer, you don’t take the empty box and set it out at the curb with your garbage, that’s like a billboard for burglars. quite the opposite, if you live in a private gated community and you buy that same fancy tech item, you set the box out at the curb on garbage day almost like a proud way to brag to the neighbors about what you just got.

I think fixed lens cameras are for hobbyists. If you just like shooting every now and then a fix lens is the way to go but if you do it as a job I think interchangeable is better. It just depends on who the person is. I like fix lenses but also enjoy interchangeable.

DSLRs ARE great for most things and mirrorless cameras keep getting bigger and heavier, just look at the Nikon Z9. A Canon PowerShot Digital Rebel XT is very small and light and it is a DSLR. DSLRs also have superior battery life. Even my least efficient DSLR has significantly better battery life than my mirrorless one. CCD sensors can look very different but it isn't as simple as CCD vs CMOS or film vs digital. I've taken pictures on both that look identical or sometimes look the opposite. Aside from the electronic viewfinder, mirrorless doesn't really have an advantage. DSLRs weren't replaced because they were the inferior, they were replaced because the camera industry needed something new to help sales and the EVF and small size was a selling point even though later on most of the better models got bigger and heavier anyway. CCD was replaced with CMOS due to it's shortcomings. CCD had less dynamic range and poor high iso performance. It can take pictures that look like a CMOS camera though just like my CMOS can have a CCD look. People oversimplify things. I like my CCD DSLRs but there is definitely a reason my CMOS DSLR is used more. It does everything the CCD one does and does it even better. My mirrorless camera is barely used for a couple different reasons. It is a good camera though and someday it will get more use but I don't see it becoming my primary camera.

Lol @ "upgrading". I find myself shooting with ever older digital cameras. Old is the new new for me. I "upgrade" to lower resolution, older cameras all the time. It is the "character" I am looking for, and new ones are strangely lacking. Everything is just too clean, too smooth, too fast. Boring, really.
