I used a black journal for my Covid journal. I went through a lot of white gel pens, but I loved it. Fit the mood.

How can any sensitive, politically literate reader read this book and see it as anything but a celebration of " OUR democracy " among the poor immigrant neighborhoods at the turn of the century ? It is really impossible to sentimentalize the social reality of the BOOK . The novel can be compared with dark stories of Zola, Theodore Dreiser , James T. Farrell , even the realism of Stephen Crane . Whatever the gifted author's political blinders this story is raw material explaining the turn of the century SOCIALIST movement in the United States . I need to know more about author Betty Smith . Is there something " inspiring " about the Darwinian social struggle in Upton Sinclair's " The Jungle " ? Holy Jesus will make sure all is well in the end ? Leave it to Hollywood to sentimentalize a social nightmare !

I don’t think Gone With The Wind glorifies the racism. I don’t know. Maybe I’m wrong. A lot of books with racism in them are anti-racist, like my favorite book, To Kill A Mockingbird.

I just read this book in chinese, and I wish I will read again in English one day(cause I'm not a native speaker,so it's hard for me now). But it already became my favorite book, even in Chinese.Francie taught me so many things, like brave,self-respect,patience..❤

I just finished this book. My grandmother was born in Brooklyn in 1925 so at first it was just interesting to me for giving me a sense of what my grandma's childhood might have been like. But as I kept reading it I became so utterly drawn in by the world, the characters and the quiet sadness and yet hope that permeates everything in its pages. I knew I truly loved this book when I got started slowing down towards the end because I didn't want to say goodbye to Francie and the Nolans yet. This is absolutely a novel i plan on rereading through my life

This is so pretty, I can't ever imagine using a black paged book but it comes out so nice! Your spreads are all really well done. The hack for printing your book covers seems really cool, I got lost a bit with the technical aspects of it but that's because I'm computer illiterate. I will ask one of my kids lol I'm sure they will understand!

This could not have come at a better time! With having two little children running around and being home full time and not to mention breastfeeding, it’s more than a bit difficult to get to other book clubs at the libraries. You all have made such a wonderful book club available for mothers. Thank you!

lol This is so interesting. When you guys did your Middle Grade March announcement this year, I was a bit bummed that I had just read A Rover's Story the month before! and now I have read both The Ogress and the Orphans AND The Parker Inheritance last month (for Middle Grade March lol) I'm happy to check out the lives though!
