If you eat meat, it comes from somewhere. Our animals are raised in conditions that keep them happy and healthy. They only have one bad day. I’d rather eat meat that I know comes from animals that are well cared for than from a feed lot.

I agree they are cool animals and I personally could not kill them except in the case of shtf and I needed them for survival. They are so great at making soil rich and their urine is a natural insecticide. My bun has done wonders for my previously dead yard.

Single lady with 2 cats. I bought the travel Berkey and set it up on the back left corner of my double sink area. With a small kitchen, a bigger one would be too big. I just refill a few times a day...I don't have to "hug" it, just stand on tippy toes with the sink light on to gauge how much to put in. I have learned, however, that overfilling it (may be different levels from Berkey to Berkey) will cause seepage from the joint formed between top and bottom canisters. But just wipe it up, proceed with less filling, and you'll get the hang of it.

I use a scale all the time when baking. I put the dough machine bowl on the scale, zero it, and measure directly into the dough machine bowl in the order my machine recommends, zeroing after each addition. It is a much faster measuring process than using bowls, cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, leveling after each cup etc. Clean up is a breeze as well.

It seems like if you could cut down feed costs, you could make a little more income... Thank you so much for sharing this!! I LOVE the breakdown. Have you changed anything in the last 3 years that has increased your profits??

Yes, cutting down feed costs definitely helps. I personally haven’t implemented many changes, but I have watched videos where chickens till manure and clippings into compost, then feed for other animals is grown in the compost. I haven’t had the time or resources to do it yet though.

We have a colony of bunnies where the girls and boys are sperated. Bunnies dig about 12 inches underground and that helps give them some cooler living space. It is 50° underground year round. They have a whole tunnel system and it keeps them cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Thank you for the video and good luck with the bunny housing 😊

It is much harder when they are small. You may not be applying enough pressure around that area to push it up enough where you can see it. I mean, be gentle, but you do kind of have to push the skin back pretty far and it really just takes a lot of practice. Hang in there. You’ll get it.

Informative, but you're definitely pushing an agenda, claiming that frozen farmer meat is somehow better than store bought locker aged never-frozen USDA graded meat.
@LorellaPlanBeeOrchardandFarm
@LorellaPlanBeeOrchardandFarm 7 ай бұрын
Well, I’m coming in with the assumption that someone watching this is already considering buying half a beef. To store that much meat it would have to be frozen, or you’d have to be feeding a couple hundred people at a time. 😂 But more to your point I do think it’s better to buy local when you can and support local business. There is something satisfying about looking in the eyes of and shaking the hand of the person who grew, raised, or made the product you are buying. It’s one of the things I love about shopping at the farmers market. I do think that grass raised meat tastes better and is better for you than feed lot meat. It’s also a better value over time and per pound to buy half a beef. My buyers are getting every cut of meat, including steaks, filets, ribs, tritip, etc. for around $5 a pound after paying me and the butcher. You can’t get grass feed beef for that price in store, whether fresh or frozen. Store prices have gone up so much in the last five years, and I haven’t raised my prices yet. my cattle eat the grasses grown on our farm, my cost to raise them hasn’t gone up much and I’m able to keep prices down. It’s also less carbon emissions for my truck to haul a few head of cattle to the butcher and for the customer to pick it up. They’re not being transported by big rig across great distances either before or after processing. Lastly, one of the butchers I use IS a USDA inspected facility. But they also do butchering without the USDA stamp, which saves my buyer money. Same place, same process, just costs less. So, yeah, I think it’s better. Plus I made the video from the POV of a small farmer. So OF COURSE I have an agenda. I would love for everyone to have closer ties to their food and land. That’s one of the core values of our farm. But I also hope this video was educational about the process of buying from a local producer, because I know first hand how confusing it can be.
