Something odd arising in the Porsche community: cars that do more things well are considered lesser cars than cars not even really intended for the road but the track. The Turbo S is a marvel of engineering.

As you were talking to camera the Elan looked really good behind you. One of its best angles. I owned a Red SE for 5 years, the rear wishbones had paper mache to hide the rust. The garage said one big pot hole and I could have been thrown into the hedge. I had them replaced with stainless steel ones at the south west lotus centre.
@karlhurn9 күн бұрын
Yes the M100 looks quite striking from most angles, although it can look a little underwhelming from just a few! It certainly looks interesting against other traffic, recognisably a Lotus I’d say. My wishbones have been ok so far, although I’ve always heard they were an expensive weak spot. I didn’t know you could get stainless steel replacements. Good to know 👍🙏
@raybrock60839 күн бұрын
@@karlhurn My wishbones looked ok but when it was on the ramp the guys started poking around the tops as they are mild steel and the tops are a well know rust trap.

Being a classic Mini fan since teen days I didn’t like the new Mini for a few years thinking it’s too big to be a mini etc, but since driving one a few years ago I was pleasantly surprised how much work went into the new Mini being like the classic mini in it being fun to drive and having its own cheeky charm. I think time has been kind to the R50 Mini and it will if not already be a classic car. I’ve since bought an R50 and it’s my daily driver.

Thanks for the great Review. My Q is. does it make any difference buying the base 2023 and not 2024 (new facelift )?. tnx
@karlhurn11 күн бұрын
Glad you liked the review 🙏. In answer to your question, it really depends on you. Yes there have been many mechanical upgrades that if you use the Cayenne to the extreme you will notice, if not, not so much. If you like the latest tech (duel dashboard etc) then you might feel the need to go for the 2024. But the 2023 tech is still quick and better than most rivals. Outside, you would probably have to be a keen Porsche enthusiast to spot the difference. So your call really.

@karlhurn Thanks for the reply! indeed. I love to have a balance in terms on sport and luxury, plus the 2023 interior is appealing me more. Got my self a customized base 2023 and super happy. tc

Hi, I have recently purchased a lovely blue S2 model with 37k on the clock, got a few issues as to be expected as it's been sat in a garage for years. Quick question; you had an issue with the boost gauge which I have a 0 reading on too, have you manged to sort that now and what was the issue? thanks!
@karlhurn28 күн бұрын
To be totally honest, I haven’t sorted it yet! It’s the only gauge in the car that has some delamination in the display so I’m thinking moisture has got in there at some point. I’m going to try a new gauge at some point. Congrats on your Elan, you won’t regret it, they are great cars that seem to be under everyone’s radar 👍

I had one few years back. 2.0T, manual. Such a fantastic car and a pain in the ass at the same time 🤣 It may share 50% of components with Espace but good luck with finding any of the other 50%... Once the button "opening them all" broke it took me nearly 3 months searching worldwide to find it. And that was just one piece. Also overall quality was rather poor; car squeaked and creaked constantly. Nonetheless it is extremly interesting and unique car. Such a shame it never took off and eventually bankrupted Matra. Maybe next generation would be better. All in all I crashed mine and didn't bother rebuilding knowing how painfull and costly that would be. And now I own Vel Satis - less unique but still great car

I had a chance to grab a use 2018 Turbo S E-hybrid, when new, MSRP of $227k including over $30k of factory options and an additional $25k in aftermarket options (exhaust, carbon parts, wheels, etc...). Dealer listed it for $112 and I negotiated down to $99k, thinking it's the perfect GT car for a family of 4. Besides the crazy 55% depreciation, (what will this 2018 be worth in 5 more years) on a 6 year old car, I can't get over the fact that Porsche only offered an 8 year warranty on the E-hybrid battery, basically, Porsche put a life cycle of 8-10 years on their battery, checking around all the shops and dealers, it averaged $25k for a new battery, and the E-hybrid Panamera cannot function without a working battery. So I bought a 2017 911 GTS, which after 7 years, only depreciated less then 7%, with some low miles actually appreciated by 3%. Couldn't be happier, I went back to analog instead of digital, and my kids fit in the back just fine.

My first car in 1988 - a 1983 Renault 4 F4 Van - bought off the Irish Post Office where these were popular as post vans. So many great memories of days spent renovating one of these. Reliable and never let me down, resprayed with cheap Zetor red tractor paint! Thought I was so cool at 22 years old! Still have a special affection for the R4 - best memories in my life when I drove one of these -anytime I see one at a vintage show I still recall those good old carefree days in my '20s! Such a true green car - easy to maintain and good on fuel.

It’s already a classic. It used to be the cheapo in my garage (Black LE, mint condition, bone stock) but as years go by it becomes clearer and clearer how truly special this car is. The shape ages extraordinarily well - it is a spectacular looking car. And, most importantly, it drives the part. The 5cylinder (actually a Lancia design supposed to go in the Integrale successor that never came) is charismatic, nice turbo punch, still a fast car today in stock form and sounds superb. Punches for above its weight, even for the prices you are paying by now for a mint example
