If purchasing a roaster with the Co-Pilot addon option, will it ship with the new Co-Pilot Pro or will that be a separate option later on?

Is this suitable for home roasting like the valenta 3?
@coffeecraftersllc25 күн бұрын
It sure is! Power requirement is only 240v 50-amps which would be like installing an appliance in your home. The only other thing you need is a way to vent it to the outside and your good to go.
@Presso9927 күн бұрын
I roast my own coffee beans at home. I monitor the degradation of coffee beans by means of brew ratio of 1:2. From my past years of experience, minimum resting period should be after 4-5 days (of course I would assuming that you leave the beans in an air tight canister). Degradation starts from the 4th week from the roasted date, meaning that the brewing time starts to get shorter, so we need to grind finer in order to achieving the same brew ratio of 1:2. The brewing time will get worst after one month, much finer grind will be required. So, the best period would be from the beginning of 2nd week to until the end of 3rd week.

So If I spend 3 days per week roasting 4 hour days with the valenta 3 deluxe I could produce 150LB Which means I could potentially service two local coffee shops as well as friends / family / online store

Great video. I’m really considering getting one this coming year. I see in your larger ones, you use rigid duct work. Do you suggest the same in this smaller ones? I will be starting out with this in my basement and if I get enough business going, on to an out building with a bigger toaster in the future where I could use this one as my sample roaster. I’ve never roasted on an electric fluid bed before, but I think it would be a great one to start my own business with.
@coffeecraftersllcАй бұрын
We recommend using as much flex ducting as possible in all of our roasters. This allows for better airflow to vent the smoke and chaff from the roaster. These machines are great for starting a coffee roasting business. They are very easy to use and install so you can get up and running quickly.

Isn't roasting coffee a skill learned over a long time and isn't that a skill required to do this as a business? The concept is interesting to me but I don't have 40 years of experience roasting coffee.
@coffeecraftersllc2 ай бұрын
Coffee roasting is easy, and despite what you might read online, it does not require years of experience to roast good coffee. We build roasters for people with no roasting experience so anyone can hop on one of our machines and roast great tasting coffee to sell as a business.
@habutti2 ай бұрын
New to these roasters, could you explain the difference between the different models?
@coffeecraftersllc2 ай бұрын
The biggest difference between the Artisan XL and Valenta 8 roaster, other than hourly production (60lbs per hour for the AXL and 45-48 lbs per hour for the V8), is the way the beans are roasted. With the Artisan XL, we introduce heat from the bottom of the hopper and use the air to loft the beans to keep them moving throughout the roasting process. The air then escapes out the top and is vented to the outside. This works because we introduce so much heat that we can get away with it. We have been using this method for over 12 years now and these roasters are absolute workhorses that'll pump out a lot of coffee very quickly. The Valenta 8 roaster is our newest design that will preheat the air before it goes into a more enclosed roast chamber where the beans are. Like the AXL, the hot air lofts the beans, but the difference then is this air is recirculated inside the roast chamber so the beans are always surrounded by the heat, similar to a convection oven. This allows us to use less heat for a shorter amount of time, making the roaster very efficient. The enclosed hopper also allows the roaster to be more hands-off as there is no need to babysit the bean loft setting so all you need to do is load the beans, turn it on, and let the roaster do the rest until it's time to dump the beans into the bean cooler.

@@coffeecraftersllc Thanks for the detailed response. So, do we still need a vent in our processing shop for the Valenta models or that is no longer necessary since we are recycling that air?
@coffeecraftersllc2 ай бұрын
@@habutti The roaster will still need to be vented to the outside to get rid of the smoke and chaff.

Congrats on the refinement! I'm curious about you saying that existing Valenta 15 owners need to change out the heat CHAMBER and the roast CHAMBER: It still uses the same heat element as before, correct?
@coffeecraftersllc2 ай бұрын
It's the same heat element, but the bottom of the roast chamber is tapered off to allow for better airflow and since that piece is smaller the heat chamber needs to change as well.

I'm getting totally different numbers when manually calculating. For instance, 50lbs of green beans at $5lb = $250. 50lbs roasted (800oz) - 14% loss = 688oz. Divided by 8oz gives me 86 bags to sell. At $10 for an 8oz bag is $860 before factoring in bag and label cost, kwh cost, and $250 for initial green bean cost. Using the ROI calculator with .27 kwh, 14% loss, materials cost $1 per bag gives me $151.84 profit. Where as I'm around $524 calculating manually. Something doesn't seem right.
@coffeecraftersllc2 ай бұрын
I think the issue is because you are using ounces and the calculator is set for selling coffee per pound. I can get $525.57 weekly profit when I use the following numbers: 43 lbs of roasted beans per week (includes 14% shrinkage from 50 lbs of green coffee), 0.27 kWh, $15/hr labor, $5/lbs green bean cost, $1/lbs materials cost, 14% batch shrinkage, and $20/lbs roasted price.
@joelvogt23552 ай бұрын
Yeah that may be the issue. Thanks for the reply!

We build these carts ourselves for the videos. We are going to be offering this cart in the future on our website as an add on, but we just have a few projects to finish first. Stay tuned! Everyone loves my coffee and usually sell out at vendor events and farmers markets. I struggle with marketing to a bigger crowd. I recently bought a Coffee Trailer so hoping that will expand my customer base. Thanks again for these videos.

What a great looking machine! Question, with the faster roasting times at lower temps, do you feel like the flavor profile is building out to its fullest? I'm still learning (running a Gene Cafe CBR-101) You've seemed to solve some of the shortcoming I have run into like keeping the air intake preheated and not just blowing all that hot air right out the other end. I'm going to keep my eye on this guy! I'm really enjoying what I'm seeing with the Valenta 3 !!
@coffeecraftersllc4 ай бұрын
We love the flavor profiles on this roaster with any kind of bean. We have done a lot of testing and brought in professional cuppers to help us find the right technique to get the best flavor from these beans. What we discovered was there is a 6-10 minute roast window where the beans have their best flavor. Faster than 6 minutes and the beans are under developed, longer than 10 minutes and the beans get dried out and lose flavor. When roasted in this sweet spot, the beans will have the best flavor. The recirculation of the air is all to do with the hopper design. We used air simulation software to find how we can achieve this and the results are lower roast temps and shorter roast times.
