All I'm hearing is how terrible and dangerous this thing is. Like, SHUT UP ALREADY. Talk about the history of it, how we've improved, and move on. Why continue to bash on it over and over and over and over and over? Didn't really learn anything cause of how annoying the commentary is.

I was thinking about the Ripper (Jack) knowing that chloroform has just been introduced. and none of the victims was known to scream, operations were in the vision of the performer before anesthetics done as fast as one could do. jack is a wannabe surgeon. using chloroform to practice his skills in silence. (wearing a leather apron for good measure)

The Georgian era spans the years from 1714 to 1837, covering the reigns of George I, II, III and IV, as well as that of William IV. It was an era of great social, political and cultural changes.

It might seem boring, but when you consider how many people are freed up to do other work, it's a massive improvement. (Plus, the work can be done by blind men who can't do much else, allowing them the dignity of contributing something to society.)

The majority o f men-at-arms remained squires their entire lives, you couldn't simply apprentice to be a knight. You had to be promoted by acts of valor on the battlefield. A squire might act as a servant to a knight, but he would also have his own page, sergeant, valet or routier serving him. The knight in turn, might be acting as a servant to a noble if he was ambitious. Assisting someone with personal tasks wasn't considered degrading in the Middle Ages, it was considered a sign of trust and the fasted path to promotion and rewards.

White people and old people were mugged daily. I used to go to school near the oval. I was mugged several times for nothing. In the 80s it was out of control. Why should people get away with selling drugs in the ghetto railton road. Now Brixton is a better area full of rich white people lol

Why did no one ever do anything about the piles on top, especially knowing about the natural spring beneath the pile? Could no one remove some of the dangers above? I was 10 at the time and I still don't understand. In American coal mining, we may have such "bony piles" as well, but not to this extent. I feel so bad still.

Using murder as a penalty for murder is like using violence to correct violence. It makes no sense and it's inhuman. Additionally, if we were to bring it back, it would violate the European Convention on Human Rights.

Also, if we (the general public) do not have the right to take someone's life away from them, why should the government have that right? It makes no sense, 'Don't you kill someone as a punishment, but it's okay for us to kill you as a punishment'. People tried to make it sound like it was a regulated, carefully controlled act, whereas, in reality, it's just another way of killing someone, which is inhuman, immoral, cowardly and ineffective.

In Brixton the police were extremely sick in 1981 and they were buying drugs on the front line. We just freshly moved into London from Doncaster. So we didn't know life was so bad until we moved to London. Me and my sisters were doing the double skipping when Livie ran past shouting you kids get into your house the police them gone mad and killing every black person them see. My older sister dragged me into the back garden.

The simple answer to this is what most people don't seem to get: if an adult strikes another adult, it is assault and they can be arrested and locked up or fined. If an adult attacks a child, it is called punishment, and the perver.... er..perpetrator can get away with it. Anyone using violence against a child is at best a bully. Children can be taught, it just needs the right kind of adult to teach them. Treat a person how YOU want to be treated, this actually DOES work on kids. Canes don't. Violence never solved anything , ever, apart from allowing us to develop Nuclear Weapons. Violence moves on down through generations, they will treat their kids as they were treated, and so the endless cycle goes on. Anyone promoting or defending this type of behavior is sick and should seek advice. One hug is worth more than a thousand canings.

The school bus was late so I walked to school but the teacher wanted to cane me for this. Just then the other pupils arrived and said the bus was late. He said "You are very lucky" but actually Mr W E Ball, you are very lucky because if you had imposed this punishment, as an adult I would have returned the compliment with a baseball bat, until I broke every single bone in your body. All this responsible for this form of child abuse need to be jailed.
