It might seem boring, but when you consider how many people are freed up to do other work, it's a massive improvement. (Plus, the work can be done by blind men who can't do much else, allowing them the dignity of contributing something to society.)

He says they were lost to western Europe after the fall of Rome and then brought back from Constantinople, but from what I'm aware treadmill cranes weren't present anywhere after the fall of Rome. They weren't present in the Islamic world and I haven't heard of them existing in the Byzantine Empire either so I find it to be a bit of a leap to conclusively say they came from Constantinople.

The byzantine empire was basically a continuation of the Roman empire, constantinople was a part of the roman empire when rome the city itself fell so it was just business as usual from that centre ..hence why they knew about and had cranes

It probably existed in the islamic world and it certainly did in Byzantium

The typical mind of Europans that brainwashed by the "europecentricsm"... Bro. Or sis. Medieval Arabia was much more advanced than Europe that even the Europeans took some inspiration from them. And later starts to use those knowledge to conquer the muslim empire. At that time it was the Ottoman Empire time. Around 19th century. The fall of muslim empire golden age. Dont ever underestimate medieval muslim empire. They even capable to make mechanical inventions. Something that so common since 17th century and later. Not in 13th century or something. Al Jazari is the father of Engineering. Robotics too.

I dont understand how this crane could be used in construction of the buildings. Given that the crane should put the stones in correct location which requires vertical and horizontal movement when carrying them, this crane only lift them up in vertical movement.

Tolga blue my guess is the load would be hooked and lowered onto a dolly or wheelbarrow, then moved along a rickety wooden scaffolding to its final destination and possibly leveraged into place.

These were also typically used for loading and unloading cargo off ships at port in which being stationary wasn't an issue. Those used in construction could typically be rotated or moved at the base, but this was does prior to lifting since it would have had to be done by hand.

One of these was used in building Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom). It was still in place on top of the unfinished tower late in the nineteenth century, well documented by historic photographs and drawings.

The one at Guedelon presently used to build a replica castle by historic means does actually have a movable boom.

Usually what medieval builders would do is they would build a tower or other structure of considerable height and build the crane atop the structure to assist in the lifting of heavy components. Also some of these cranes were affixed to turning based which could be turned to position the crane in the necessary firection.

All I'm hearing is how terrible and dangerous this thing is. Like, SHUT UP ALREADY. Talk about the history of it, how we've improved, and move on. Why continue to bash on it over and over and over and over and over? Didn't really learn anything cause of how annoying the commentary is.
