If you decide to do the head gasket youll have to do it again. The proper way to do the front cover is with chain tensioner removal, but you can try to do it this way, if it works for you - good, if not youll have to do it with tensioner removal

Hello im doing almost the same some im replacing the timing chain cover gasket, but my cover is a stock on the intake side do i need to remove the chain pin to get the cover out?
@AndyPMercedesBenzChannel10 күн бұрын
Don't remove the pin unless you have removed the chain tensioner. If you remove the pin you have to pull out chain tensioner and reset it.

@@AndyPMercedesBenzChannel my real question is do i need to lose the chain to remove the cover? i got all 6 bolts out the only side that is "stuck" is the pin side, i wonder if you could help me somehow
@AndyPMercedesBenzChannel10 күн бұрын
@@MikeloiML no, you should be able to slide the cover forward with the pin in place, unless someone has damaged the end of the pin previously. Pull the plug and have a look inside, you should see the end of the pin.

Is the pin to be removed( for easier placement of chain cover) the one at 10:53 (right side middle of screen)drivers side chain guide? Little unclear how to remove the pin? Nothing will be messed up doing so?
@AndyPMercedesBenzChannel11 күн бұрын
@XSAILOR65 Careful! *****DO NOT REMOVE THE PIN IF YOU HAVEN'T REMOVED THE CHAIN TENSIONER***** I personally don't recommend this method, it might work by it's not reliable. This is quick and dirty way of doing it. Check my channel, there's a video of another head gasket replacement with proper procedure with chain tensioner removal removal and with this pin removal. When you remove the chain tensioner pay attention, there;s a reset procedure for it

@@AndyPMercedesBenzChannel Thank You so much for Your reply and warning. Will check Your other video. I have a R129/SL280 with minor oil leak. Guess the head gasket also have to be done at som stage. Was planning to do the chain cover fix this winter but as easy as possible. Not yet sure what is the proper way to do it...maybe it has to be done to together with head gasket? On the other hand I don't see what would be wrong in that way you did it, I would possible use some teflon sheet instead of the thin steel sheet but same process otherwise. It looks i also hav a very small leak close to oil filter on drivers side(unusual ?). Will add som UV color to the oil to get a better picture from where it leaks . I really like the engine otherwise, so smooth and sounding so nice:)

Hey. I have Mercedes Benz C180 1996 1.8l car and my fuel gauge doesnt work. It always shows zero fuel even though its not true. Do you think the problem is in fuel sender? Would appreciate if you can answer!
@AndyPMercedesBenzChannel19 күн бұрын
Hi. There are 3 possible failures: sending units, harness/connections corroded, or the fuel level gauge.

Thanks for the video. My W202 fuel gauge has not worked for all of the 3.5 years I've owned this car. The drivers side fuel sender needed to have its spring re-tensioned like on your video, and the passenger side one had been fixed by former owners at one point (the first metal clip you remove from the sender was gone, and the spring had been re-tensioned already). I got the senders repaired like in this video, checked them and they seem to put out the right ohm level now. However I still do not get any fuel level showing in my dash, even when I filled the tank after I did this repair. I was wondering if it could be the instrument cluster that has issues? Oh also occasionally it would jump to full when I had a full tank before, but only when I did hard turns. Does not do this anymore though.
@AndyPMercedesBenzChannel21 күн бұрын
It's hard to say, did you test the output signal on the level sending units to make sure they work?
@Krisemann21 күн бұрын
It was tested before I hooked it back up and the resistance was continuously going up and down. I was able to test another instrument cluster which also showed zero, so at this point I'm inclined to believe it's a pinched or corroded wire somewhere.

Would removing the fuel cap on outside of the car relieve any pressure in the tank?
@andrewp30892 ай бұрын
Yes
@intlwtrs2 ай бұрын
@andrewp3089 right on, I know they put warnings ab the release of pressure on the fuel door, wasn't sure if the filter and such maintained pressure separate from the tank itself. My gas leak has gotten too gnarly to overlook, really hoping it's just these hoses

@@intlwtrs my w202 is 95 model, I always have pressure inside, im not sure if later models are same. There's a check valve on the fuel fumes line that ensures the fuel tank stays pressurized. I have a video on this issue, as I thought there's something wrong with my system.

I love your videos. You’ve saved me so much time and money especially in a time when I needed to save the most. Thank you for everything. Question regarding this, did you have to machine the head before assembling it all together again?
@AndyPMercedesBenzChannel2 ай бұрын
No, I used to work at a place where we had CMM machine, the measurements were ok. you can use a straight edge to check your head. If you had the engine overheated Id worry about it, otherwise you might get away without machining the head

Could it be that the thread is stripped? Try different thread pitch, i can't remember now what it is. If you cant pul the pin out, you can still remove the cover, pull it straight forward with caution. You can pull out the pin later with a visegrips.

That's a sign of a small vacuum leak, as you push on gas pedal the vacuum drops. The leak can be anywhere starting from engine . You will need a vacuum pump and start testing.
