QUIT BANGING WITH YOUR HT!!!!!!!! Use something that is not sensitive to vibration. The jumper across the meter is to damp the meter movement. When in use the meter is reacting to voltage generated by the slug/element. When in in travel the motion moves the needle. That movement can damage the mechanics in the meter. The jumper shorts out the electricity generated and minimizes the indicator movement. To accomplish the same thing when the Bird is being moved, you need to turn the slug to midway between forward and reverse. I am a retired broadcast engineer.

This is a notch filter aka a mobile duplexer. It doesn’t filter out any other out of band sources like a BpBr Band pass band reject duplexer. The BpBr is the type of duplexer you would use at repeater tower site.

I don’t like the P25 audio quality, for me an analog radio is easier to understand. I guess officers get used to p25

Dude… WHERE ARE YOU? I miss the Big Guerrilla ! Over a dozen years ago, you got me thinking about “prepper” uses of communications after being in the field for 37+ years. (Using radios as a firefighter / ham / / radio service & installs & vehicle upfitting back in my youth) Now with the Commies ready to take over again (Summer 2024) in the upcoming “Fall of Love & Riots”, comms are truly a necessity. I have a pair of UHF P25 phase 1 repeaters (Quantars) and a pair of DMR repeaters (Hytera & a /\/\ XPR8400) set up on 2 mountaintop sites w/utility AC power and standby gensets at both sites. It was worth the freq. coordination & licensing to avoid the mess of GMRS and itinerants . I get portable coverage over the entire area we are in. Any friend or family member who wants to make use of the gear just has to pick up a UHF transceiver and get a MOU letter from me. (Most already have dept. issued radios, but the rest have been buying used /\/\ otorola XTS5000’s, XPR7550’s, XPR5550’s or Hytera DMR PD-782’s or the AnyTone 878UViii plus or 578UV mobiles. The AnyTone dual-band (UHF VHF) are a great value for Chinesium gear. They are just not nearly as rugged as the others. Just a thought for the prepper folks. OR… you could also license a few itinerant frequencies. It doesn’t require the use of frequency coordination (very $ pricey) and all of these FCC “IG” (aka “Business Band”) frequencies can be included under a single FCC license for approx $250 (+/-) for a 10 year period. You can use ENCRYPTION on these vs. no E on ham bands or GMRS/FRS. We spent approx $4500 for all engineering / frequency coordination and FCC licensing back in the early 2000’s. That’s way higher than today’s pricing (we went with UHF “T-BAND” 470-52xMHz at the time when it was first opened up for public safety and some business use.. we escaped the Obama “stimulus act” theft of this spectrum she. Pres. Trump was in office and saved us. LOL Split up amongst a large group of friends and family , it’s very affordable nowadays. I know you know all of this , just thought I’d mention to the viewers. Hope all is well GC!

I just purchased two Steiners. The first one was the new Navigator 7 X 50 without compass. After 30 minutes of viewing, I packed them up and shipped them right back. Absolutely terrible in every respect. Poor low light performance, inconsistent collimation where the right side was sharp across the field but the left was only sharp through about 60% of the viewing field. Lenses were fully multi coated but Steiner forgot to put any anti reflecting coatings on the prisms resulting in terrible internal reflections when looking at the moon. That cheap plastic body was for a lack of better words, CHEAP. Steiners Navigator series is just a kids toy with a $600+ price tag. I decided to buy the Commander which was $1400! It was acceptable, much better than the Navigator but still suffered from that CHEAP recycled plastic housing. I compared it to my 15 year old Fujinon FMTR 7 X 50 and the Commander still couldn't match the image quality, or fit and finish of the FMTR which is less than half the price. I sent the Commander back as well as it just wasn't worth the money at all.

@12:30 I went and sealed my ends with the liquid electrical tape stuff, and I used another little piece of the shrink wrap tube for the gap. It works great I measured a SWR of 1.0044385:1 lol, return loss of like 52dB so I would say it should work jut fine

How does this placement fare for reducing road noise? Do you wish you had mounted it all the way to the rear of the canopy? I'm looking at doing the same thing, but I have a 102" whip that I would lay flat.

I haven't viewed your channel in a while, usually for the comms, but I was looking for your cellular tower video that selects only priority users in a crowded area. I can't remember what that is called. I'm thinking the recent att outage is a drill. Love the backpack video, I've been doing 10-12 mile hikes with my osprey aether 60. I like it, but I wouldn't mind trying some surplus to make it interesting. I'll have to catchup on your new vids.

Quality control and recalls since 1997 are so bad it isn't funny, which is still happening with some of their GX 4 pistols in 2024. Own a Taurus 627 Tracker and have no issues with it. Rarely do I shoot 357 magnum loads out of it, just don't trust it's durability.
