that was nice... how are you liking the gemini ?
@ColinMarstonOmnisound28 күн бұрын
I really love it! Nicest keybed and highest quality sliders, buttons, and knobs of any polysynth I’ve tried (including polybrute12 and moog one!!). Those and a few other comparable synths have more features, but I actually like that the Gemini might be slightly less a jack of all trades, but really the best possible design for dual layer or split patches, and generally making and modifying sounds quickly and intuitively. Love that there’s no screen or menus and (almost) full controls for each layer right in front of you. I am a sucker for the old Roland Jupiters, so the fact that it takes the Jupiter 8 as the main design inspiration is perfect for me. Then add on the dual controls, poly aftertouch, and ribbon strip from the CS80, AND the modern idiosyncratic binaural signal paths, and you get the ideal big polysynth for my taste. Also doesnt cost $60,000. Looks like Star Trek. UDO gets an A+ from me.

@@ColinMarstonOmnisound thanks very much for sharing your impressions with the Gemini ... love the various waveforms for that Prophet VS kind style to and Jupiter's are my faves . I used to have them both when there where half the price of the gemini in 1999.

@ColinMarstonOmnisound29 күн бұрын
not on that piece actually. i think it's the G-Force Virtual String Machine plugin there. both the piece before and after that one are just Odyssey. i'd say about 75% of this video (which comprises our 2nd through 5th albums) is the Odyssey. the other quarter is the Virtual String Machine and the M-Tron Pro Mellotron. First album is all those 2 plugins. the most recent album is all hardware synths. same Simmons kits on all albums (SDS V and SDS 8).

Haha!! Don’t worry, I agree about the lighting. Was kicked out of my recording studio after 18 years by new building owners. So I’m set up in my parents’ living room until I can find a new studio. Not ideal! But they are amazingly kind to allow my sonic invasion.

cheers! the stereo delay comes from the cheap NUX Duotime delay. some limitations, but love the super simple interface it has. the Gemini does all this idiosyncratic stereo synthesis with dual left and right oscillators, filters, modulation, etc. so some of the fun stereo sounds are coming straight from the synth as well. here's my newest (extremely long) ambient Indricothere album: indricothere.bandcamp.com/album/extruded-nonlocality-immersion nice witchcraft on your channel! enjoying the microfreak wavetable exploration right now!

the odyssey fits perfectly on a heavy duty music stand! (it's the smaller, cheaper korg one fyi). the music stand is a little wobbly, so i brace it from the back with a mic stand. not ideal, but i haven't yet found an angle-able single keyboard stand. btw, great videos on your channel! nice sound-design and i'm jealous of your back yard desert.

Amazing! Also amazing we both released an ambient synth concert #3 on almost the same day, with almost the same textures and overall sound. YT just randomly had given me your channel and this song a few minutes ago, and I was happy to see a kindred spirit creating the same genre of music that our minds and synthesizer space ships take us. I think we were traveling the same part of space that day. (I am however using completely different synths, four Roland Boutiques, all digital, and zoned across an 88 key Kurzweil VAST synth :)
@ColinMarstonOmnisoundАй бұрын
Your concert was awesome! Glad the KZbin algorithm can sometimes actually do good things! The Roland boutiques are sick, but I only have the Juno one (ju06-a). Gotten a ton of use out of it though.

@@ColinMarstonOmnisound Thank you so much! Yes, enjoy the quick sound design of physical surface controlled synths, for digital this is very rare. Happy to have waved hi from my synth space ship portal to yours as we traveled the same course for a while.

Is this improvised, or are you playing from some of the material from your previous releases? Are you a fan of Vangelis? Every time I play any of your music with keyboard in it, my dad says it reminds him of Vangelis's soundtracks.
@ColinMarstonOmnisoundАй бұрын
@@LarrySeinfeldit’s improvised. On the records I almost always overdub more parts to deepen the texture and expand on things I land on. Occasionally a solo piece like this makes it to a record. Vangelis is iconic and amazing.

Ha! I love the design and layout of the Odyssey so much. I always use a pedal to control filter cutoff (that’s how I’m doing all the swells on it). That way of playing makes it feel a lot like a guitar with fuzz and a volume pedal to me. The Odyssey is what got me hooked on hardware synths.
