I like to play as Lee on Tekken and a motion that was hard for me to graps, on a real match, was neutral. It was really weird for me at first to add neutral to my combos. So many years of being an scrub makes you hold movement inputs all the time.

Is this comment section a safe space for Smash players...? The Smash DI system feels like a nice compromise - influence the trajectory that your character gets kicked towards during a combo. Lends itself to a game within a game within a game; First phase being to find a combo starter, second phase being to uphold a combo, subphase of the second phase being to follow and predict where your opponent will "Smash DI" towards

I would actually like the see this system implemented ina traditional fighter, but i think charcters in sf are just to rigid for this. You would need universal arial drift to be able to chase DI and not make all Jap or low hitstun moves a total guess on hit. Also i think there would have to be some kind of punish for DIing into the Wall to offset the lack of Blast Zones that normaly punish bad DI with a lost Stock

I think the issue is that 99% of games just make for "bad art." There are very few that elevate the medium, IMO.

OK but if I had a 2 hour movie which is art and I stopped half way through it doesn't stop being art. A game is a movie that you have to continually push through. It has a story you have to keep experiencing it has ART the dudes idea of what art is, is just him trying to be so fancy and big brain he eliminates forms of art. Rather than hear what his reasing for why video games are not art I'd like to hear what his idea of art is

They should make Lei Wulong game as a tekken force like campaign during his work/ career as Hong Kong police detective, similar to Jackie Chan movie, sleeping dogs & yakuza game.

Devils advocate in me wants to say games arent art but a collection of art. You can take away all the art in a game and it doesn't directly impact the game itself. Much like in your example you took a movie and added a game element to it. Its not a game, and you can take thet element out without completely ruining the impact. What im getting at. John Carmak was right. Story in game is just window dressing. I shoot demon.

Games are like any other hobby like sports. You can enjoy it at your own pace, but its up to you to get better and reaching a high level. You have to want to set aside time and be willing to go through the struggle.

Thinking that motion inputs in fighting games are unnecessary and an "ancient relic" has to be the most moronic take ever

You don’t have to remember all of it. The movelists are fluffed up by strings. You’ll have a whole slot for square square, then another one for square square triangle, and square square triangle x and so on. You also only end up using a few moves per character that are the most viable

Naw you were right first time round, old man Ebert was behind the times and indulging in a number of logical fallacies throughout the article. The strongest argument against games as art proposes that their position as a product inherently undermines their artistic worth or is in someway mutually exclusive but even that is flimsy at best

They allow more moves to be added for a character, they aren't really a balancing mechanic for making things more difficult

This is the same guy who trashed Jim Carrey when he first came out, he's known for terrible takes that he walks back years later. It's an attempt to stay relevant, he already knows games are outpacing film. More people heard of him from this short than actually read his article.

Even as an anime player, I don't like burst. Sure, it feels good as a defender, but as an attacker it feels awful, especially when I was a beginner. I spent all this time labbing this combo, just for me to get the starter and get bursted out of it? The only combo breaker esque mechanic I like in a game is plat fighter's DI. You usually only able to minimize a bad situation, but not negate it.

Nah keep them out of SF, no way jose. And nothing was worse than the MK11 breakers that dropped your opponent straight down so they could punish you for trying to combo them 😂
