Why would anybody be say that balance is worthless? Isn’t it meant to keep broken characters in check? Nobody wants to see the same broken character over and over again.

I love this video, its such a fun time capsule of just how turbulent fighting games where years ago and just how over everyone though Street Fighter was as a whole. I'm glad the genre was able to improve so much over that arguably worse time FGs

this sounds a lot like the iritating just get good advice a lot of hardcore players give I gave up a lot of fightin games at University when friends bought playstations and could practice for hours in their dorm room just to call me in a wipthe floor with the 6 move combo they spent all night perfecting after reading a gaming magazine. I think there's a lot to be said for making single player a true tutorial system , look at how half life did it, you spend 30 minutes being taught all your options and then thrown iinto a meltdown where you have to work out how to combie those choices into a completed game

The new generation of fg players and kids in general aren't just rude and bitch-made af, they have no mental capacity for anything other than complaining. Your game sucks because of design decisions that the developers had made at the start of the game, not because they buffed someone. Design decisions made to cater to, and I'm sorry to say it, the lowest common denominator of players that just want to press buttons and see cool shit- which is probably you. These are literally the games you asked for, and they're not just stupid because they buffed everyone, they're stupid because of the massive trend of nerfing defensive options for like, the past decade. You feel like it was a buff that ruined your game because the characters feel oppressive and powerful- but they're that way because your character has less defensive options to deal with it. It was nerfs that ruined your game. And why ya'll dogpiling 7 year old video? It's not like this dude is responsible for all the changes in the fgc- and even in this video he gives many good arguments for nerfs. This is like, one of the least inflammatory takes ever made, and you still got pissed as fuck at it. Can't you guys form a constructive argument? Do you guys have the capability to do anything other than yell at people or is everyone in your culture so brain rotted that just like in your games, mindless aggression is the only thing you're capable of? Though I guess I'll give a pass for dbzf players, because arcsys actually does balance for monkeys and the fanbase is pretty much a toxic cesspool.

nerfing or buffing all depends on the situation imo. there is no one right answear for how to "balance" a game. Buffing or nerfing can have the same effect to a degree because just as a nerf can change the playstyle of a character so can a buff. iam not really into fighting games but for example world of warcraft has lots of balancing happening all the time to different things and even by just buffing one ability can have the effect of flipping an entire playstyle on its head. but i do agree that it shouldn't be balanced due to the fun factor and its okay for developers to experiment but try their best to keep the playstyle and identity the same. ofc there should be leway due to those changing whenever anything is changed but keep it in the same ballpark.

Fighting games are "hard" because zoomers today are lazy, entitled, have huge egos, dont want to learn anything, want everything chewed and handed to them on a platter and they are used to always blame somoene or something else for their failure instead of taking responsibility and admitting they didnt want to put any serious time into practicing. Fighting games require dedication. They are for serious boys and girls. Not for casual scrubs who dont take shit seriously
