Hi Andy, I really enjoyed this video. I like and will remember the “begin with the end in mind” approach to capturing the image with a view to what you will do with the post-processing. I’m thinking of heading to Tuscany in early October. Is this a good time to visit photographically in your opinion? A lot of photographers seem to recommend Spring or Summer. TIA.

06:11 It's not unbalanced due to the negative space It doesn't feel completely right due to the background being there, and at the same time not being there - it's too visible not to be there, and too obscured & foggy to really be part of the image
@AndyMumford22 сағат бұрын
It's about visual weight....even though the background is partially visible its visual weight doesn't add significantly to the visual weight of right side of the frame.

Excellent video Andy. Your comments on trying to see familiar locations from a different perspective reminds me a lot of Freeman Patterson's book Photography and the Art of Seeing. Taking the time (which is something I'm terrible at) to see a familiar location differently can be incredibly rewarding. Using your phone to quickly compose an image then deciding whether or not to unpack your serious camera is also fantastic advice. My phone has helped guide me to some shots that I was initially inclined to walk by because I wasn't inspired to unload my pack and get out my camera.

Hi andy! Love your videos. Just a question. What is the size of your magnetic filters? I noticed that they are bigger than the lens thread, is it because of vignetting? And how many filters you can stack using the 10mm? TIA 😊
@AndyMumford22 сағат бұрын
The filters are 82mm. I use that size as it's the size of my largest lens (the 20-35mm on the GFX)

Do you recommand the Viltrox 13mm when you already have the sigma 10-18mm - for image quality & aperture ? (1.4). Thanks !
@AndyMumford4 күн бұрын
It depends what you want. The Viltrox is probably better quality and faster, but the Sigma is more flexible and lighter, as well as being wider. The Sigma is good enough though, so that's the lens I always carry
@mikeexplores_the_world88953 күн бұрын
@@AndyMumford thanks a lot Andy to take the time to reply. I decided to keep my sigma 10-18 - better for the weight of my bag too. Also, I do not shoot wide so much.

I agree with comments about the good bokeh and outstanding OIS. In fact, on my XT-3 I preferred this lens over the 16-55 f2.8. However, things changed with the X-T5 where it now seems outclassed by the -T5's 40 mp sensor, while the optics of the 16-55 f2.8 shine. All things considered -price; size; performance- I think this is a surprisingly good lens.

Superb! Going back to Lofoten again in January. Love the idea of looking at a scene in 16x7. I've tried that when shooting in 4x4 and it really works to help with composition. Also love the idea of empty space in pano shooting. Thanks!

How do I get that crop in EVF on my XT5
@AndyMumford6 күн бұрын
You have to go to quality and choose RAW + JPEG (you can only get the crop to appear if you're shooting JPEG). Then you can choose the JPEG format; 3:2, 4:3, 1:1, or 16:9, which is the pano format.. As I said in the video, the RAW file will be cropped in Lightroom, but you can uncrop it, and of course you can just delete the JPEG
@NDURcycling6 күн бұрын
@@AndyMumford ahhh don’t knew that. I thought if you choose an aspect ratio also the Raw file is cropped loosing the space around it. Thx

I got this lens with my XT4 years ago. I remember choosing it because the dealer said for the kit lens package, I could grab either the 18-55 variable aperture or the 16-80 fixed f4 to take and they wouldn't raise the price. Guess they had an abundance of 16-80s? I simply looked at the prices and went "Oh I'll take the more expensive one then!" Haha. I think at the time the 16-80 was maybe even more than $800? People HATED it back then! I had no idea what I was walking into with it. "It corners are unusable! Everything but the center is blurry!" etc. etc. Fast forward to 2024 when Fuji has routinely put this for sale for under $600 (used even around $300!) now everyone is absolutely loving the lens. Probably my favorite "set it and forget it" lens. I've used it on beaches, traveling, at conventions, at concerts, and more.

Thanks for sharing Andy. Of course you can crop as panorama or take multiple images and stitch as panorama you have more resolution but I found photoshop struggles when stitching 2 rows of 16 phots at 61 megapixels each. For the non-professional photographers it is mainly slowing down and keep looking around to see potential shots. A location like Iceland certainly helps !
@AndyMumford7 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment. For sure you can stitch panoramas, but what I'm trying to get at here is that by simply having the panorama crop on a camera it changes the way to see a scene and really opens up different possibilities. It would be the same if it were a square crop I think

Excellent and different advice as well as incredible images. I just commented on your IG about half an hour ago and then your video popped up on my KZbin recommendations before watching this video. I'll try and use these tips the next time I do landscape photography because since getting a camera, I've barely used the phone to take photos. Also, I might try and do a panorama of the Brecon Beacons while being back in Wales because it'll probably be perfect for it.

panaroma is cool for medium format, but the lack of wide angle and telephoto makes shoot ff even more
@AndyMumford7 күн бұрын
Not sure what you mean. A panorama doesn't really have anything to do with focal length...some of these are telephoto, others in the mid range. It's about the format, not the focal length. And there is no lack of wide angle on medium format. I have a 19mm on the GFX (about 15mm full frame equivalent) and a 20-35mm (16-28mm full frame equivalent), which is plenty wide enough.

I don't understand when people say Fuji Xt is small. The body is almost the size of a full frame Sony body.

Because it's lighter than pretty much every Sony camera, and when you factor in equivalent lenses, the system is significantly lighter.

Nice video. As for....do you need FF high MP for landscapes over Fujifilm smaller sensor....I don't necessarily need FF (don't use anything more than 24 MP) but I prefer it when doing more critical professional work for agencies. In that respect, I usually shoot medium format film when I'm being REALLY nit-picky and just transfer to disc. I just love the Fujifilm system along side my Nikons. They make a great paring...added benefit of using Nikkor glass on the XT 2. I don't think I will ever change this paring and when I want to travel really light, I just carry the Fuji with 2 or 3 lenses. Thank you much for your videos. I must, that's...MUST get over to England and Scotland (my mother's ancestral home) and shoot tons of beautiful scenics. Keep up the good work. I'll look you up when I get there.

Fuji and Nikon make excellent cameras and lenses. I started shooting Nikon 35mm SLR cameras in the late 1960s. Over decades, I shot Nikon F, F2, F3, F4, EM, N70, and N2000 with an inventory of two-dozen Nikon manual focus prime lenses. In the digital age, I shot Fuji S5 Pro APS-C digital SLR with five Nikon auto focus zoom lenses and my inventory of prime lenses. More recently, I started using Fuji X-Pro2 APS-C digital mirrorless with five fast Fuji auto focus prime lenses and two fast Fuji auto focus zoom lenses.
