The Kahler also isn't mounted to the studs correctly. The knife edges are on the studs themselves and they feed into the middle of the Hourglass - It's the opposite of a floyd rose. You will want to buy two new Hourglass inserts and two new of the smaller knife edge studs to get it operating like new.

I worked in a shop in the late 80s that sold these… I owned a Daion Power MkXX at the time and wanted one of these so badly…. I wasn’t really into strats, and still am not… but I managed to buy an RH-4 in trans blue just a few days ago….. pickguard is showing signs of decay behind the mirror coating and the writing on the pickups has worn a little. But it’s not been mucked with at all. In all the ones I saw while I have been looking, they either have pickups swapped, EQ unit removed or tuners replaced… this one doesn’t suffer those fates….. you seem to have scored too, albeit a few years ago now….

One point to "point out" about Fender guitars from the 70s and 80s is the inconsistency and variability of quality that rolled off Fender's production line, which was arguably the raison d'être for the advent of companies like Blade and PRS and G&L. The point being that these decades were "hit or miss" and although many Stars and Teles produced by Fender in these decades were very run- of-the-mill instruments, one out of every ten or so were of the highest quality. I got through two mediocre Strats before I came across a top quality one. I found a 1970s Telecaster which the previous owner had slightly "modified" that was the best guitar I have ever played let alone owned, far better than any Fender, PRS, Gibson Les Paul or Patrick Eggle that I have tried or owned since. Another point to take into account is guitar "snobbery" which strangely enough is identical to the pretentiousness surrounding fine wine - the older and more expensive the wine then the better it should be ! Not necessarily true. Unless they are acquired solely for investment purposes, no way are most pre-CBS or early sixties Fenders worth the asking price.

Thanks for making this video. I hunted down ibanez JEM7D. It's 22 years old. I put Jescar SS frets on it. It is my best playing guitar. The intonation is great. Superb tuning stability. Smoother tone without the high mid spike of regular JEM. Tight and tidy palm mutes , nice cleans. I glad Ibanez made the guitar.

I have has a pre-lawsuit R4 since 1992. It made the Fender product of the time look like a cheap copy - which arguably it has been since 1964 😉. It would be nice if the neck were a fraction wider at the nut and if it were a little lighter, but nothing really to complain about. It makes a very good gigging guitar with simple control layout and the boost circuit provides enough drive to plug right in.

Spoken like a true ignoramus. If you ever played a Murphy les Paul compared to a studio you’d instantly know the difference You’re the guy that tries to convince himself that his epiphone is just as good bc you can’t afford one. Not being about to afford one is fine. Bashing bc you can isn’t. It’s not
@joshuajouet
@joshuajouet 9 ай бұрын
No need to be insulting - I think the reality is that there is a sweet spot between an affordable instrument and an absurdly expensive one, and this is where the clever money goes in terms of sonic performance (not talking about collectibility or resale value etc). The Studio was designed to be sonically indistinguishable from a Standard while dispensing with some of the visual frills. There’s nothing wrong with that philosophy if it works for the professional musician. It may also be a sound choice in terms of taking to the road and playing the thing live night after night - I know I would not want to do that with an instrument I couldn’t afford to break etc Incidentally, a 1959 sunburst standard was around $300 with a case, which equates to roughly $3100 in today’s money. So, you’re telling me that a $20k Murphy Les Paul is the only way to get a sonically comparable instrument? I think they saw you coming, keep drinking the cool aid. Regards, the ignoramus 🙄

Not a real big Ibanez fan because I've had few Ibanez before and I had difficulties with them. I had difficulties with the saddles on the edge tremolo that they have on them I had difficulties with things like the edge tremolo system the saddles were a pain in the butt, rather have a Floyd Rose, but Ibanez are okay, I just wouldn't pay too much for one. I prefer Kramer, and Jackson guitars. Edge tremolo system is a far cry from a Floyd Rose not even close to the quality. And DiMarzio pick ups are a long way away from a Seymour Duncan, Seymour Duncan are the best pick ups you can buy right there neck and neck with EMG pickups

You do not even compare the two which each other when it comes to tone. My first electric guitar was a Blade and yes it was a nice instrument. Nothing to complain about when it comes to quality. Looking back i had plenty of guitars to compare it with. What i have to admit is that the fretboard of the Levinson was impecable and very comfordable to play. However, i never got warm with it's sound. It could have been both the swamp ash body and neck and the active pickups. I'm not sure, but i assume the pickups were just not my cup of tea. Yes, they were powerful, especially in active mode but, i just missed attitude in them. As a young guy that is just learning how to play guitar, you might tend to listen to your guitar teacher and that could be a mistake. I have purchased the Levinson and another guitar just because of listening to people who could play very well. Today i own a number of electric guitars, but none of the two are in my collection anymore. Even the guitar teacher finally turned back to the Fender Strat after having checked out everything else.

Can’t remember if I mention it in the video, but of the two guitars in the video; the mexi was the lighter. It was so light in fact that it suffered quite badly from neck dive on a standard strap. Both guitars incredibly light compared to average solid bodies of course

Watched him do this live in small venues on more than one occasion. His use of the slide beyond the fretboard and over the pickups to create this sound took such skill to get just right, that I still have trouble believing what I saw. I’ve heard other famous players say they’ve tried it too, and found it difficult to find it as perfectly as he left it, for all of us. What a privilege to witness. Bravo Jeff, for a life well lived, and defined on your own terms.

Those Berlin Pro's are stunning guitars. This top is really a looker. I have a Patrick Eggle made MXG (series made for Max Guitars in the Hague) with the same falling leafs inlays in the ebony fretboard. It's a superstrat (HSS). I've put a set of Bare Knuckles pickups in it and installed Sperzels and a roller bridge to keep the trem in tune for at least one set. It's my main stage guitar for years. Lovely well made guitars, with great necks and eye to detail.
