I can't understand why these asus proart cards are hotter than asus dual cards. I think the radiator design from the dual, where the fins direct the airflow towards the back, outside the case, is simply better than the 3 fan design with the radiator fins move the air up to the cpu and around the case, with the back exit blocked. I think these cards are only sold for their design, there's absolutely no reason anyone would buy such a large model when it's cooling and noise is not better. You get nothing in exchange for the size. And if you have to undervolt for heat or lower the clocks by 30% to lower the coil whine using the Asus software button to reduce coil whine, why not simply buy a cheaper card?
@JohnLCharette5 күн бұрын
Yeah, I'm guessing a lot of it is the design. I remember testing a Dual 3070 and it was incredible. I used to mine on it and the VRAM were super cool. I assumed it would suck, but it was great. That said, I'm still using one of these ProArt 4080 Super's as my daily driver.. its great. No issues. I don't game much, but the only time I hear it spin up is when I'm rendering my KZbin videos.
@rikimiki125 күн бұрын
@@JohnLCharette Thanks for replying. There's also Asus Prime with 3 fans but there are no reviews with the pcb and radiator exposed. I hope the rtx50 will use parallel radiator fins like the Asus Dual on the 3 fan models. I can't find any reason to blow very hot air from the gpu directly towards the mb (and the ssds which may be mounted there) and inside the case, when it can be ejected outside the case.

I twisted 4 470 Ohm resistors in parallel and soldered the long end to pin 1 and pin 10 on original TS 251 circa 2014 era QNAP NAS. Runs great! Rather than assembling it all back together just load up the HDD on bottom, then stack the mainboard on top, install some paper, and plug in the fan. Gonna update my MSI GTX970 with this one. Battlefield 3 & MW2 era card. It's starting to randomly glitch out here and there and it can't handle my 42mp photos in Adobe Lightroom very well. I can also tell it doesn't like my dual 4K setup that much, even though I don't really play games anymore. That card has been a good friend to me for a long time and it's finally time for it to go on vacation.

Ohh yeah, that'll be a great upgrade for you. I used it as my daily driver for 6-8 months. I also don't play a lot of games, but when I did.. it worked very well at 1440p ultrawide.
@MrD300016 күн бұрын
@yeah, man. It’s time. That card has been good to me and it’s been in two different builds but I’ve been running into its limits for a while now. Working in Lightroom with those high resolution photos is painful and annoying, especially considering I make a decent chunk of my income that way. This may be interesting for other photo/video editors: the main reason I’m going for the TI version is the dual NVEC encoders. Great thing to have for video editing and rendering, as this card will be twice as powerful as the non TI version for that. The only thing I’m a little worried about is my PSU. It’s 650W. My CPU is an i7-8700. That one is also getting a bit old but it isn’t the current bottleneck for what I do. I have 48GB DDR4 RAM across 4 banks (started with 16GB and added 32GB later) and I have two HDDs and 4 SSDs. I’m debating whether I save the PSU upgrade for when I’m upgrading my motherboard & CPU in a couple of years or do it now.
@JohnLCharette15 күн бұрын
Yeah, your power supply is a little small. Consider that a 4070 Ti can pull about 225w at max load. Then add your CPU is another 100-150w. A couple HDD and SSDs may add 100-150w. Generally, you don't want to push a power supply past 80% of it's total available power. 650 - 20% = 520w. Adding up all of those values, you're close. You'll probably be fine, as you leave that extra 20% for spikes. My next question is does your PSU have 3x8pin PCI-E cables to connect to the 4070 Ti?
@MrD300015 күн бұрын
@ my cpu has a tdp of 65w. It’s the non-k version. But your math lines up with mine. It’s cutting it close. The PSU doesn’t have those connectors I believe, but you have adapters/converters for that, right?
@MrD300014 күн бұрын
@@JohnLCharette now I’m debating whether I should wait for the 5070TI that’s supposed to come out in a month or two. Decisions decisions…

So I got my PC from NZXT and its honestly been a nightmare from the start having to send the PC back to them 3x. Short story, 2 bad GPU causing force loop restart and 3rd time was shipping damage. They have only 3 PSI plugged in to my power supply but I only notice this due to an issue im having... When im playing games I will randomly get a black screen on both monitors and the GPU fans will run high RPM. I dont know how to correct it at this point. Is anyone having this issue???? Also, I will add my power supply does not have another open slot 9 pin connector to plug in the 4th PSI...
@JohnLCharette16 күн бұрын
Sorry to hear about your issues. To me, it sounds like a power supply issue. What size power supply are you using? Consider buying a 2x8pin PCI-E to 12vhpwr cable like the one I speak about here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6HYm6F5ZtF6j5Y

I genuinely don't understand your issue with the VRAM in UE5. Why do you want something to use more VRAM if it doesn't need to? It's literally not using more because there's nothing else to put in VRAM. That's just how the scene works. You threw money at what amounted to a random guess? You're using UE5, you can literally just look at the amount of VRAM the assets in a scene are going to use.
@JohnLCharette17 күн бұрын
No issue at all. I was genuinely curious to know if the 3080 capped out the VRAM based on only have 10gb of available VRAM, and I was proven wrong. To your point, the scene itself only used 9.2gb of VRAM and there for using a 3090 Ti with 24gb made no difference. I'm not a 3D expert, nor do I used UE5 at all, so my question is how complicated does the scene need to be to use more than 10gb of VRAM? Is that a common use case?

Still laws of physics are merciless. This card heats and sounds almost the same as evga 3080ti xc3 ultra, which was smallest of all 3080ti cards. Undervolting sure can help a bit, but still running games with fps uncapped or running the most demanding games at 60fps - constantly gives a feeling that the card is about to die.
