This whole gaping thing is actually so complicated. Because they say dont touch the center piece, but you have to if you use all those things to measure the gap. So its literally dumb to me whenever anyone says "dont touch the center piece" and then they touch it anyways, they gave to, all those tools touch the center. So the best i seen is dude just said dont gap them , just put them in car, because the factory gaps them to the proper gap. Its really just anal to try to get it exact anyways. And to much to get it perfect , means you touch that center piece, so any touch is damage according to everyone. So to me i would just take them all out the box and line them up and look at all the gaps together, and any absurdly higher or lower then the rest, then adjust that one. But other then that, i mean, the gaps on all those spark plugs in general are just so super close to almost touching, so the closer i dont think it would be a problem. I would love someone to test my theory. Just gap it to as close without touching and install them and see how car runs. I bet it probably run better. Because those gaps get wider over time. So gapping as close as possible is actually the gold standard if you ask me. Problem with my theory, is i dont think ANYONE has made youtube video to show if this works or messes up car. But i think im right. We need like one of those anal science nerd youtubers to try it. But bottomline is, all i am saying is, all the gapping tools, they call touch the center piece that everyone says not to touch. So all tools have the potential to ruin the whole spark plug. Which to me means, never use any of the tools, and eyeball it and just make gap as small as possible and never put anything in between the center piece and top piece.

As a recent owner of a VT, I am quite annoyed that the turbo and manifold are all one piece, how much of a pain it will be to do a turbo swap with a half decent turbo that will require a custom manifold! And they aren't exactly available lol

Excellent information video on PVC / venting pressure. On a small block chevy application with two valve cover vent if i was understanding you correctly 1). on the pvc valve side i will direct that into the catch can breather and the out line will go down to a bung welded 45 degrees into the flow of exhaust. 2). plug the manifold line and the other side will just be breather at the valve cover?

@KDMTUNERS3 ай бұрын
Yep, that was the idea when putting the video together. We tried to show everything involved in bottom end assembly on a G4fj - The result was quite a lengthy video, but it is packed full of useful information that were considered pertinent for someone to use as a guide for their build.

Did you use the G4FJ service manual values to measure the ring end gap clearance?
@KDMTUNERS3 ай бұрын
Yes and no, we used the services manual as a starting point but have come up with our own values for performance applications. If you are rebuilding the motor for normal use then the service manual specs will work, but when building a performance oriented engine that's when clearances need to be re-considered to align with the goals of what will be asked of the engine.

What is the difference between the G4FD & G4FJ? I like to get the G4FJ KDM Tuners rebuild kit for my G4FD can it be done?
@KDMTUNERS3 ай бұрын
Hello! Structurally the Gamma engines are similar, there are some changes for the turbo application such as cylinder oil squirters etc in the G4fj. Yep, you can build the G4fd with G4fj internals, but the G4fj crankshaft would be needed in the G4fd block to accept the con rods into the G4fd. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at [email protected] - Thank you!

Great video and really detailed! I’m at the final stages of doing mine. I agree about the music though…😅 I have struck a problem reinstalling my turbo oil feed line. It’s the line with the swivel part in the centre that connects to the block and the top of the turbo. I can’t get the angle right where it connects to the block. It’s so frustrating. Is there a special technique to this?

after 6 months of owning my veloster turbo i finally figured out this is what's been causing all the goofy issues i'm having, what makes me sad is that everyone online recommended sxth element fuel line and I see that they no longer even offer it on their website. all the other options are more expensive for just a piece of fuel line :(

I’m wondering should I go catless down pipe with catback exhaust? Or catless down pipe with axle back. Only difference is the catback has a built in high flow muffler and the axle back eliminates the muffler totally.
@KDMTUNERS10 ай бұрын
Regardless of exhaust set up, you will see gains from a high flow or non-catted down pipe even with the stock exhaust, with an updated reflash. Of course, more gains will be had with a similar diameter (3") cat-back system paired with the 3" high flow down pipe.

With the coin gapper you don’t just shove the ramp into the plug gap to open it up. It’s just used to measure the gap. You use the small “key ring” hole to open the gap which puts no pressure on the electrode. Still not the best for fine electrode plugs such as platinum, iridium, or ruthenium, but if used properly they are not complete trash.
