Great video. I had to replace the exhaust studs on the hot side of the turbo. I ordered the ARP studs from you. To take the turbo out I found it easier to placed a Jack with a block of wood and placed it under the oil pan, then loosen all the bolts and nuts from the motor mount, then lowered the motor and pulled the turbo out. Just a thought for the next time you remove one. Thanks for the quick turn around in sending the studs my way. I appreciate it. ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾

blew my turbo last week and had a rough time finding any information on how to replace it. came across this video and followed it to a t. broke a few bolts and nuts, also busted up my knuckles. But tomorrow is the last working day I have on the thing. Thanks for the video helped so much

We're replacing ours since oil is getting in the exhaust and then burning. I filled up the oil yesterday and today when I drained it hardly any came out when the car didn't even drive 20 miles😑

Great video and really detailed! I’m at the final stages of doing mine. I agree about the music though…😅 I have struck a problem reinstalling my turbo oil feed line. It’s the line with the swivel part in the centre that connects to the block and the top of the turbo. I can’t get the angle right where it connects to the block. It’s so frustrating. Is there a special technique to this?

I am changing my head gasket because it's leaking coolant. I accidentally removed all the MLA's without marking their original location. The service manual says they have to go to the original position. And help or advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for posting, very good tips! I did have to turn on closed caption to figure out what you were saying cause the beat was a bit loud compared to your voice, but even closed caption couldn't hear parts. Maybe I missed it but is there a particular way to prime the oil and coolant on these after install. I read somewhere about resealing after prime which didnt make sense to me??

Barry Bennett sorry about that.. to prime these we pull the coil pack harness clip and pull fuel pump fuse. Then hit the start button and let engine crank for one full cycle which is 10-15 cranks I’m guessing. This will get the oil and coolant through out with out adding heat. Then when you start the car leave it jacked up.. this will kick any air pockets in the coolant out. We send out a install and prime sheet. We have a video on this process “engine prime and break in”

That beat on loop for 1:38 is enough to drive any man crazy lol. But on a serious note its a great informative video, i've heard many ruhmors of rediculous things you have to do when it comes to removing the turbo or downpipe. Wouldn't it be easier to drop the subframe a little and go through the bottom though?

Russell Richardson you can do that for sure. This way seems quicker for us. I don’t like messing with ball joints and such if I don’t need to. If this was done on a lift pulling from bottom it pretty quick as well

@@KDMTUNERS How hard is an engine removal on one of these? Is this something that can be done in a garage with a hoist? Drain the normal fluids, disconnect fuel lines and ECU bits and the axles and then pop it out? If I want to do a lot of work (turbo, maybe some gaskets etc) at once would you recommend this?

@@josht2103 I just removed the engine out of mine. Its a pain in the... You have to drop the trans, unless you want to take the entire front clip off. If you have any questions, let me know.

Charles Westenberg he does still have the stock line but no issues. I’m sure at some point he will Upgrade it but for now it’s fine

Can this technique apply to a Forte Koup SX? I know it has the same powertrain but I wonder if the layout is any different that it might present challenges? I blew my turbo last weekend and the dealership wants $3,000 to fix it :/

Jeez, the ultimate molasses video. Ever hear of power tools? Edit: Brackets can damper vibration, but sometimes they can be removed without problems. As far as heat; keeping the heat in the exhaust is great, but keeping the turbo cool (especially the intake side) will make it last longer and keep the oil from becoming carbonized and clogging the oiling system. That's why the ecoboost and other turbos are watercooled.

Don’t know who this will help, In addition to this video for specifically veloster. I have an 17 Elantra sport. For those you don’t have to remove the valve cover to get the turbo out it’s a tight squeeze but it will fit. Secondly, just plan on taking out the turbo, so with that in mind if you just want a shop to do it 10/10 would recommend. If you’re confident you could get the turbo out(it’s do-able in a driveway). My studs broke so I’d recommend keeping stock DP on and when/if you decide to do a down pipe, might as well pony up for an upgraded turbo so you don’t have to do the work twice(unless you like torture). Some tools I found helpful are husky nut extractors(metric) and harbor freight makes a very slim long ratchet that looks like a long gear wrench. Also some wobble extensions. This is in case your manifold bolts are on there right and you end up rounding one(like me, the center on on top). All in all, if it was a perfect world it wouldn’t be too hard for a typical person to do. All this coming from someone that worked at a performance shop dealing with FORD and GM. I found it easier than headers on a coyote mustang. Side note: the most efficient way to do it is with a lift, and engine support truss attached to the top of your engine. And remove tie-rods, lower control arm from strut, and 4 bolts for the subframe. Then drop it out of the way completely, all the room in the world. But like I said that’s if you have access to a shop and tools like that.
