Pick me girls also tend to be overly promiscuous since getting many guys to sleeping with is a form of validation so it's funny they slut shame other girls.

I’m very sick of people diagnosing fictional characters. Doctors are not allowed to do this because you need a lot of history and testing to do. Just because these characters are unique doesn’t mean at all that they have autism. Autism is always diagnosed with a developmental delay or moderate asynchronous development. These characters are not children and we don’t know how they developed.

bru i am really mad about that girl who is mocking other girls for wearing a leg brace around school, when i was in school i badly broke my leg and was in hospital for 2 weeks for it, when i got back to school this one random bitch kept bullying me about how im faking my injury etc. like wtf u weird fucking weirdo, i was in a wheelchair for months and finally can be in a moonboot and all u can think is "ur just dong this for attention" that girl was fucked, like imagine crying everynight bc u feel like a cripple n some random heffa bullies u for that

A pick me girl is someone who degrades other girls for male validation. It is actually so weird. Like insulting your own gender is basically insulting yourself.

As an autistic teenage girl that never had any romantic interest yet all of this seems so scary to me , im scared to be taken advantage of when i just want to offer love especially when it already happend to me once in a frendship where it took me 2 years to see the red flags(they were flaming red this girl bullied me and told me i was ugly and worthless everyday but i kept staying), i think or i hope im valid to feel like this, i love offering to other i love sharing interest , im bubbly , but i dont want to be just "the girl in her own bubble that laugh 10 minutes after the joke ended"

I don't think that adults should be cast to play teens. I don't want to see anyone over the age of twenty play a teenager. If an actor is twenty years old is playing a teen and they look young enough to be believable, it is okay with me. Sarah Michelle Gellar is a perfect example. She was twenty when she first played Buffy Summers, but she looked 16.

This is a main reason why I've been trying to avoid these tropes in my cyberpunk work, using more influence from brutalist architecture and the UKs cultures in general.

Not sure if you will read this, but I think you are basically right and I'm here to give an example. I knew a girl who I can only describe as a manic pixie dream girl. She was bubbly, quirky etc. She also tried to kill herself. The point is, she was unstable. The nerds and quirky girls can be friendly because they understand each other. But it rarely happens that a pixie goes for a nerd, because nerds are also unstable. The pixie will need a manly man, a strong and silent type, a stoic warrior - in most cases. Yes she's fun and all, but she is also vulnerable. She's also probably smarter than the nerd, so she knows two unstable people won't make it. Let me tell you, I was that nerd, I fell in love and it basically broke me. I'm not even sure if I'm over (I probably am, but you just can't make agreements with your heart) it and it's been more than a decade. Because real life is not like the movies where the nerd just "gets over it". If you are a sensitive kid, you won't just learn about life, you will get wrecked for years. Good luck.

Is Maude from Harold and Maude a manic pixie dream girl? Do we think she was neuro divergent? She's an interesting case study.

The share of film roles is proportional to the population share. Asians are only 5% of the general population in the US. and Asian film roles in the US is also about 5%. Black population in the US is about 14% and their film roles are also 14%. If Asians want more film representations, we Asians need to increase our population. If we all focus on having just one or 2 children and try to send them to Ivy league schools, we won't increase our population share and we'll always be treated as a tiny minority and never have good representations.

In some level the pick me girl is a normal girl with other interest BUT the extreme makes it become ridiculous! Is normal to like other things and seek approval from people you like the problem is more on how the pick me acts like she’s THE BETTER GIRL, that’s just her own ego trying to hurt other in order to suit her own.

I think there are a lot of cases where criticism shouldn’t be directed at the pick me girl herself, but it should be directed at the patriarchy. But there are also other cases where the girl is so mean that the criticism should be directed at her 😅

i really enjoyed this video! i watched the movie with my boyfriend last night and i have to say i loved it. while critiques on our generation may be hard to hear, i felt this movie did it really well. some of the dialogue certainly felt a bit too on the nose but overall i think it helped with relaying some of the themes the movie wanted to make. i was a little disappointed for a second with the ending reveal but then changed my mind after seeing how it further pushed the point of how we can go down a rabbit hole of paranoia and self sabotage. i personally feel bodies bodies bodies will be a classic for our generation, although i know that might not be a popular opinion !

I hate to admit I too fetishized this trope. Even down to my last relationship. She checked every box. I still flirt and mess with that type but never far enough to become part of their world knowing my mind reminds me to stay away. It's mostly me being bad for her than her for me. I'm pretty sure it started with Leslie from "Bridge to Terabithia." Still to this day I find myself longing for a partner to realize my potential and ruling the world with them alongside me. Not saying these girls grow out of it in womanhood but my favorite growth of one has to be Amanda Peets character in "A Lot Like Love." She makes her mistakes but we watch her values change and so does she.

Here's the thing... I really don't care if white people keep making media about white people. The issue is that people of color aren't getting the chance to tell their own stories. Hiring writers of color, funding directors of color, etc. is leagues more important than teaching white people how to write.

I wish I saw this sooner. I was late diagnosed autistic and my bf always identified me as a manic pixie dream girl although I never knew what it meant or how it was perceived by men as just a woman who momentarily served their needs and let go of that woman. I do not have any mental illness just autism and he did end up violating me and seeing me as more vulnerable because of my 'childlike innocence". But another thought is woman ever NOT reduce down to just one conecpet? How do I become 'normal" and not manic pixie dream girl...

I also like those kinds of characters. For me, it's more about existential questions. These are nihilistic characters who are looking for meaning in their lives. Even if they switch their positions from wrong to right, or right to wrong, in their lives, not much changes. For me, it's more about seeing a character discovering moral ambiguity.

Sadly it has often been like this, especially in the past. Witness the horrible impersonation of a Japanese man by Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's. When in the 30s and 40s, Hollywood decided to bring one of the greatest fictional detectives, Charlie Chan, to the big screen, they went with all white actors to fill the role - the first three being Werner Oland (Swedish-American),Sydney Toler (American) and Roland Winters (American). Even in later years, white actors like Peter Ustinov and Ross Martin got the role and that was in the 70s and 80s !!! The villains didn't get away either as in 1980 English actor Peter Sellers played the title role in the "Fiendish Plot of Dr. Fu Manchu" and in 1961 Christopher Lee played the evil Tong leader, Chung king in "Terror of the Tongs". I was genuinely surprised and pleased to discover that the iconic Chinese-American actor, Keye Luke ,actually voiced the title role in the Hanna-Barbera cartoon "The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan" (1972) (he also played Number 1 son in many of the Charlie Chan films and was the Venerable Master Po in the Kung Fu series)(Side note however, one of the myriad of children that Chan had in the series (another Hollywood stereotype) was voiced by actress Jodie Foster)
