I’m sorry you never buy a car sight unseen or not inspected by a reliable source. You never said how much you paid. If it was little it was worth the extra work. FYI all the dampers wobble even new. Odds are the one you change likely would have lasted. The Corvette is a rewarding experience if you own the right one. It can be the car from hell if you buy the wrong one. Changing the damper change the front cover and seal. Also check the water pump. Yes you need to clean the cooling. Grass and leaves are always there. They did program the fans to lower temps. C5 is really an easy Corvette to work on if you are a bit handy. If you buy anymore Vettes go look at it, drive and investigate the car. You dodged a bullet here from what it sounds. It is easy to find a good one local unless you are looking at a C1 or C2. Most people. miss the top condition and end up with a $1500 bill for a top. Some folks just don’t change oil over time just miles. In climate control you are often ok going a but over. Your confession is good for the soul. My 02 is local and while a few minor things it has been a blessing. I was over under and in this car and had 2 other Corvette buddies and then a third look for any reason not to buy. They could not find anything. I have been the mechanic on the giving bad news and that is tough crushing peoples dreams. They save their life and wait then buy crap and then lose money and end up with nothing. It is sad. Corvettes are not an impulse buy unless new. They can be the best used car or the used car of satin. Only you can prevent the latter. Buy smart and not emotionally.
@carsandwhatnotsenior4279

I bought emotionally ,i will admit that. There is a long story behind the car I bought so I wont bore you with the details. I did change the seal and chose to replace the damper than take a chance with a 24 year old car. It wasn't a big deal. But really ,thanks for your comments . That truly was enjoyable reading. Gary

Watched your video all the way through. I own a 2003 C5 automatic. I'm 70 years old and can relate to your perspective on doing the repairs. I'll be curious if you'll have some of the issues I've had. My C5 has 160K gentle miles. I had to deal with things like oil pressure sending unit, HVAC display blank, ABS module quit. With the help of KZbin, I tackled those myself. I don't even know if my pulley is wobbling. I haven't looked. I love my C5, but my biggest complaint is the leaking rear main seal. A local shop says they can replace the seal for $1700. It leaves a small puddle on my garage floor. My grandkids call the puddle "lake Chevrolet".

Thanks for writing Greg. I am familiar with the problems you have had . I expect some of your issues you had to deal with will be mine also. Mine has 64k miles and right now the A/C doesn't work and the passenger side door lock doesn't work. Winter projects for me. Your leaking rear main seal would be something I wouldn't look forward to. Like you, I really like my car. Gary

You are correct it has been a long time. The car looks great from the opening picture. You are a braver soul then me. Buying the car sight unseen. Is than a picture book from your C8 build? One more question have you considered buying a E-Ray or a Z06? Can't wait until the next video on the car.

Yeah- when I got the c8 the plant was closed for tours and I decided not to do museum delivery because I didnt want to chance driving the car home in a snowstorm. So instead I opted for the build book. So glad I did. Thought about the Eray and even a little about the Z06. Really like the wider body and the fact of the hand built personal build of the Z06 engine. If the eray had a higher electric range ( 30- 40 miles), that would be the car I would get. The car you see in the picture isnt quite accurate.

But I replaced them with 3"billet z51 emblems from West coast Corvette and installed them on that little area in front of the nacelles . Looks pretty good. @carsandwhatnotsenior4279
@carsandwhatnotsenior4279 6 ай бұрын
That area between the seats is ugly. I'm rather old so I only have a flip phone and don't require a charging area. The waterfall covers that area and brings a bit of the car color inside which is like previous generations. And you are right- an extra little glovebox would be welcomed. Yes that is a carbon fiber trim around the cluster that I added.

8 year battery warranty, right? There is going to be degradation over the years. Cold will adversely affect the battery. Don't know where you live but if in a cold climate try and limit the use of electric seats and the heater. Warm up the car using gas. For a 9 year old car 29 miles of electric isn't out of the question. When my car was new I would get 35 miles in the winter . Just drive it and enjoy it. The power train is quite reliable and robust. Tidbit of information, this 67 had the 1968 turn signal and parking lights installed in the front fender edge caps. So at first glance you would think this is a '68. Also, regarding price back then most stickered between 8 and $9000 with options. It was one of the most expensive cars back then. So I would compare it to $90 000 in today's dollars so you could get the comparison.

Logical from your book, Cadillacs of the 60’s, the likeliness of end cap transition late in the 67 production year makes sense. My first thought was the obvious differences in the dash.
