@@stevekonbass Doing OK, I retired last year and this year I've had both knees replaced. One knee in March and the other in June, both required 6 weeks of PT, 3 days a week. Hard to get through but I'm glad I did it! How are you? Are you playing lots of gigs these days? Are you still rocking the Rumble 500? Such a great amp!

Brother Steve… we were almost there with our final mix. But what does that mean final master, where does the output of your final mix go to. Does it go to the two left and right outputs on the recorder or does the master mixed recording get saved somewhere else on the R 16? Thank you for posting this very informative tutorial. All I need to understand now is how to master all my tracks into a stereo file. Peace, Sal 💪🏻🎸
@stevekonbass
@stevekonbass 6 күн бұрын
Congrats! Okay... when we talk studio lingo, a mix down would be taking all 16 tracks and recording them down to a 2 track stereo mix. Then when you here somebody say, "We sent it out for mastering" what that means is the 2-Track was getting more tweaking to make it sound radio ready. Now back to the Zoom R16. The Zoom has "mastering effects" that you can put across all 16 tracks and then you mix down to the 2 track. Is it like sending it out to a pro mastering studio? No. But it will make it sound better. Watch these videos, it'll help ya. This one from around the nineteen minute mark will show ya how to mix down: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHTXqmWZZaqLl6c and this one will go more into mastering and getting it to sound good: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKbEiXesaqytrbssi=ea7OuTF5sHP3qJPS The 2 track mix down will be on the SD card. If you pop the SD card into your computer the file will say something like MAST1. The individual tracks like bass, guitar, etc. will say MONO1, MONO2, etc. If you want to hear the final mixdown on the Zoom, hit the master button on the Zoom above the main fader until it turns GREEN and hit play after rewinding to the beginning.

Hi Steve, I am just starting the bass and came accross your video. Really helps break it down. Really good diagram and explanations. Just enough to get us going. If I could ask. The only thing that confuses me is which fingers to play what note. I sometimes find it hard to see which fingers you or other people are using. I know you have the camera looking at you but to be honest unless it is really up close I will never see it. It seems no one mentions the fingers used. Especially while playing a progression. Maybe you just use whatever fingers are comfortable but for me I would love to be sure of what I am practicing. Do you have any videos explaining fingers/hand positioning? Many Thanks for your really to the point video. A big thumbs up anyway. Thanks again.

Great question. We're working with the major scale. Play it C- middle D- pinky E- index F- middle G- pinky A- index B- ring C- pinky Whenever you play a major scale, use this fingering. I stress this to everyone I give lessons to. It'll be easier to memorize (than if you keep mixing up your fingers) and when you run through the triads they'll be easier to grab. Here's the playlist to my bass lessons videos kzbin.info/aero/PLsFosTB39eVBVllLkZP_RAIjNmviv8nYe You'll see me often referring to major scales and you'll always see me using the same fingering.
@stevekonbass

To add on to my first reply, watch this video from about the 2 minute mark when I play Let It Be. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJico4KGeZZ1r6Msi=Bdt9P1ezbZxmECh8 You'll see me play the C major scale using the fingering I told you from my first reply, and then you'll see me using the triads while staying in position. Note how my hand doesn't move, just my fingers. The whole lesson might be a little over your head if you're a beginner, but that one section should help you make sense of fingering.

Can I change the Effects on a track after I have recorded?
@stevekonbass
@stevekonbass 8 күн бұрын
Well if you recorded with the effects on, like let's say the 5150 guitar amp, it'll be printed to the recording. But if you recorded dry, without effects, then you can assign whatever effect you want to it. Keep in mind if you want to do this multiple times for different instruments/tracks, you'll have to assign the effect and then bounce the track with the effect on to a free track.
@raenoldparkin
@raenoldparkin 4 күн бұрын
@@stevekonbass Ah, so I can record dry. Do I have to assign the track as dry? If I do it this way can I sift through the effects afterwards to hear how they sound. For example of I want to record bass dry and then test out all the bass amps

No problem, there's a lot of info so things can be missed. It's a great recorder once you get used to it. Here's a recording I did with it.
